  • Hey Mark I was wondering if you could do a cover of Hardline's Can't find my way? I love the tone!

  • he used to cut my grass...

he was a very nice boy....

  • Man You SUCK! at playing bad.

I Could do Better! !in my dreams

Why Dont you turn it DoWN? because your tone is crushing my skull!!!

  • Amazing tone :)

  • Can you post this Axe-FX patch to the Fractal Audio forums for all of us? Wicked sound.

  • how much of this sound is from the axe-fx and how much from your room mic? Sounds incredible!

  • Holy mother!!!! This is so crushing tone!

  • Tone is just sick!

  • dang, care the share the patch? or show us how you made them?

  • I dream now to be in this room when You are playing. Great sound, fat, amazing riffs, high performance. Great job Mark! Greetings!

  • That is a fantastic tone and very clean playing. Makes me want the Axe FX even more, and i wasnt sure that was possible haha

  • Gr8t videos and thanx for replying to an earlier ?. I hope this doesn't sound a silly question, but in order to get a guitar signal into my PC do I need a separate guitar-usb connection i.e. I can't use the MIDI to usb connection that the axe-editor needs? Is there anything out there that combines both - so I can connect to the editor AND record my guitar signal out of the Axefx using 1 usb? The Suhr guitar's not bad either!!

  • Hi, i really like your videos. You rock! Love that suhr aswell.

  • razzy...not tight , very digital (sorry).

  • T-O-N-E!!!!!!!! Serious gear envy with the Suhr and Axe-FX (and that comes from a severe GAS head!!!).

  • That is BEAST

  • thats some serious fat and clean gain

  • What kind of monitors are you using sounds clean

  • What kind of power amp simulators do you use?

  • @tweekin001

I think on this video I used the CAE model, maybe Uber

  • @samhillband Does this sound really digital like most stuff on offer?

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Maestro Mark which would you put on a suhr modern like yours.......Aldrich or SSH+....both high output but in tone? i know you like the blackouts ....but between those 2

    Thanks so much

    Ramiro

  • @rsaenzs Sorry I can't comment at the moment, but I hope to be able to spend some serious time with these pickups in the near future :)

  • Probably one of the cleanest and most defined overdrive/distortion tones I've heard. Sounds great.

  • @forbiddensociety

Yes, it's true. Plus some delay and/or echo. Really great.

  • do you use the axe fx just for recording? if you had only 2000 usd which one would you buy, a good tube amp or axe fx?

  • Sounds huge on video. Nice!

  • Wow man what amazing tone !!!

  • your playing is so clean!!!

what amp models are you using??

  • Where are you putting the 9v battery?

  • DAT TONE!!

  • Hi Mark.

Thanks to posting so many great vids on YouTube!

I`ll get me a Suhr Modern and an Axe-Fx Ultra in the future....... ;-)

You bend those strings as they were "rubber bands" What kind of gauge are you using on this Suhr Modern?

    Best Regards

    FolkessonMKV

  • @FolkessonMKV

    I use Elixir 9-42's

    Thanks for the kind words.

an yes I can bend 10-52's the same, but it hurts a lot more..lol

  • @samhillband LOL. Thanks Mark! Been playing 10-52`s for years, but back with 9-42`s soon on my `62 Custom Shop LTD Strat HR made in 2007. In a vid you are comparason a Les Paul Deluxe and the Suhr Modern. My dream is to have a Suhr Modern sound as close to a Les Paul in the neck pickup possible and as shredding as possible in the bridge. Do you have any idea of chosing wood and humbucker config. to spec a Suhr Modern like I`m describing? May I ask what the acculy specs are for your Suhr Modern?

  • sounds good dude

  • Feedback... It's a beautiful thing.

  • thanx for your answer. So what is you axe fx song setup ?

  • did you only use the axee fx ?? what is your set up ?

    nice tone!

  • @arcolerh

I have two rigs. One is the AxeFx with an ART SLA2 poweramp and two Randall 2x12's, Ground Control Pro. The other is a Suhr OD100se+ with a GCX Switcher, EVH Phase90, EVH Flanger, Suhr Koko Boost, ISP Decimator, Zakk Wah, EB Vol 25k, and two Mesa 4x12 Recto cabs. Also has a Grond Control Pro.

  • @samhillband tough question for ya....which do you honestly prefer ??? I would have to guess the axe fx as I never see any clips with the old rig, Is this a fair statement ???

  • @jem7772

I just posted a video here this weekend using my Od100 rig, I've done a few lately :)

    Mark

  • @samhillband Great & if you could only keep one which would it be ??? I guess this is a tricky question since you endorse both. This is a lot of cash for us youtube fans ( you have fans who enjoy the gain & funny faces...........more gain Mark !!) and we value your opinion especially since there is nowhere to try the axe fx to compare. A lot of guys online say the axe fx is so good you will sell your old gear once you try it.

  • Love your guitar! NICE TONE INDEED!

  • Comment removed

  • @samhillband, could you do a cover of nightrain by guns n roses with this tone

  • Mark, PLEASE! ... make a video showing how you do 6:16 sound , i was just listening the video until i heard that ...awesome!

  • he complained that you used the same technique as every other guitarist on the planet to coax feedback from an amp? lol.

hey you used a pick to get that attack on the lead there, no fair..... :?

  • I bookmarked this a while ago and keep coming back to hear the tone. Love it.

What pickups are you using? Do you feel they have a large impact on your tone? I do realize there are a lot of factors involved, not the least of which is a good sounding guitar. But why did you choose the pickups you have, assuming they aren't stock.

  • @thegreenblade74 Thanks greenblade! I'm using Duncan AHB1 Blackouts. They are very high output, agressive pickups. I've used actives since about 1986. I've tried passives and really tried to like them but I always end up with actives.

They do make a difference in tone imho.

    Mark

  • @samhillband So far I've been the opposite. I have the AHB1 set but don't like them in any of my guitars. I think I just never really sat down to setup my patches to them and the guitar they're in. I'll have to try that again. Maybe get a better sounding guitar ...

  • sweet axe. what guage strings you running? they look fat. :)

  • @f2kflyer Elixir 9-42's

  • Mark

What's model firewire do you recommend to eliminate latency?

  • @CRANKYONE100

I'm using a Digidesign Digi003 interface with ProTools.

  • @samhillband Does a good interface make a big difference in sound quality when you're recording direct ?

  • can you give more details on the guitar your using...make/model/pickup...etc.. power amp cab... what are we hearing a mix or the direct and the speaker cab mixed? i think you were mentioning an amp but could make out what your saying

  • Hi Mark

    Cool Tone Bro.

Which Guitar do You preffer the PRS or the Suhr and why??

  • @ibajem96

I like the Suhr best, it plays like butter, the stainless steel frets are incredible. The guitar sounds so "clear" and cuts through everything.

I still use the PRS for drop tuning stuff and it's a great guitar too...but I prefer the Suhr.

    Mark

  • @FreeByrd007

Mahogany body and neck, quilt maple top, Indian rosewood fingerboard

    Mark

  • Nice tone and to hell with someone raggin' on you about using the Whammy bar to draw feedback, thats silly, WWHD! What Would Hendrix D........use his whammy bar for feedback.

  • Sounds killer!-Is that a preset patch in the Axe-FX or one that you tweaked? Thanks

  • Holy crap, this is an amazing tone my friend

  • HOLYHELLONADONKEYBONER

    That acoustic looks amazing

  • awesome!!! how did you connect it?for example output 2 - without cab simulation to the ART and then to the cab - mic ...and the direct sound? couse the spdif would mix those two sounds...or did you connect the output 1 to the firewire device? nice

  • Holy crapp?!

This is a sound to kill for!

  • WOW

  • please send me the sounds with the files open

  • what a rippin sound im wondering what it will sound like in the stuidio through the beat up 4x12 cabs

  • Hi Mark,

    amazing videos and Playin!

How did you set up your noisegate?

  • Do you need some kind of mixer to run between the Axe-FX and your PC? I'm new to all of this, and just wondering if I can run a cable from the back of the Axe directly into my Mac and record in Garage Band or what have you.

  • It's best to use some sort of firewire interface unit but you could go in direct with a proper cable...2 male 1/4" to stereo mini. There will be some latency and the guitar will feel like it's lagging. With a good interface this will be virtually un-noticeable.

    Mark

  • Oh man you only have bad gear! WTF!!!!

You only have the top gear, i'm thinking in get a AXE-FX but i also like a lot of the OD 100 and CAE 3 +, what is the best preamp rack effects you have used? please tell me about your experience.

  • There are a lot of great ones, I have used G-Force, Eventide H3000se, etc. Though certainly not the best I like the G-Major 1 and 2 for it's ease of use and great midi capabilities :)

Of course the AxeFx blows the top off anything I've used.

    Mark

  • Hey Mark, I´ve the G-Force but i´m thinking in sell it to get money to buy the AXE-FX ultra, i see that you also has a OD 100 from CAE, that´s sounds amazing, of all stuffs you have use for preamp and effects the AXE-FX Ultra is the best in your oppinion?

    Marcelo

  • Wow, although I'm a recent youtube afficionado, you seem to have set a new standard for audio as far as I have seen. Sounds pretty outrageous through headphones. Although totally different , Tom Quayle also gets a great tone and plays a Suhr . So, thanks to you and Tom for helping me decide how to max out my home equity loan.

  • Dude, what speakers are you using with this recording?...

  • Just a little Randall 2x12" with Celestion 70/80's

    Mark

  • This is the only amp modeler that can actually get good feedback that sounds natural. It's amazing.

  • How did u blend direct with live?Used a mixer?

    Congrats!awsome tone.

  • Used an Edirol R09HR then imported the file into ProTools and synced it up.

    Mark

  • Everytime I see info on an Axe clip I read all this enthusiasm and then I listen and Im like WTF?

That is a very buzzy distortion pedal sound that doesnt sound any different than a Zoom. I wanna like this..I really do but I've got some great amps and a few modelers and for the price this just seems like a very bad case of bias.

Im wondering if this thing cost 300 bucks that modern man would just dismiss it. Its like the $200 belt that everyone doesnt seem to get just holds up your pants.

  • it also has a lot to do with pickups and amp models used. go listen to some of Bulb / Peripherys stuff. they use the axe fx now.

  • Ur a retard my friend.... This is some of the best tones ive heard..... And everybody else knows it too....

  • I've got an Ultra, and i've had plenty of Zooms, Boss's, Line6's and i can tell you that this does NOT sound like a Zoom!! Its head and shoulders about any other digital unit out there. If you think a particular sound is 'buzzy' then it offers plenty of options to instantly get rid of it without sacrificing tone or clarity.

  • @Rizzy55

i hate to say it, but it's all in your mind

  • great rig man, beautiful guitar...what do you do for a living? haha

  • good GOD i want one!!!!!

  • Thanks!!! I shoot most of the videos at our Lessons studio :)

Commercial address so not many neighbours...thank God :)

    Mark

  • Great videos Mark. Absolutely awesome tone. I take it you don't have any neighbours nearby !!

  • Hi Mark, great vids ! Which Blackouts you have in your Suhr ? AHB-1 or AHB-2 Metal ?

  • AHB1's

    Mark

  • Nice work, man.

  • For lead that tone was great, but I don't really like it that much for rhythm. Sort of... bland. But nevertheless, sounds like I might consider getting one in the future (if I win the lottery).

  • Mark, I keep waiting for your wife to open the door and yell at you to turn it down, yet it never happens!

  • Monster tone!

  • Great tone and playing. Thanks for all your videos.

  • Seriously great tone! Great great demo!

  • Hello, I'm on my way to receive an Axe FX Ultra.

Since I'd like to use it through studio monitors, would you mind suggesting me a couple of models that sounds good with the Axe, if you know?

Something not too expensive, but a decent quality.

  • There are so many! I'm just using a set of Behringer Truth monitors (the bigger ones). They color the sound but they sound pretty good.

    Mark

  • Someday I'm gonna own one! Axe FX!!!!!

    Nice home studio Bud!!

  • jack-2 of rig talk says: YES! awesome tone.

  • WOW as always!

Your tone is the holy grail of tone!

  • That's a sweet little guitar room!

  • ahahahahh the a chord.

  • that is probably the best guitar sound I have ever heard! I really dig this!

  • fucking awesome man \m/

  • CAE LD. Email me if you want the preset :)

    Mark

  • Hey,

can you please tell me which amp sim and cab sim are you using on this video and on the axelynch video?

    Thanks

  • This is another vid to convince me on the Axe FX. I don't play that much of the 80's kind of playing, but it still sounds bloody epic

  • Nice video Mark =D.

  • That's killer Tone

  • great videos!! i suggest to make a video and showing how do you get this tone with axe fx!

    something like a tutorial...

  • +1 Mark, you should totally do this.

  • Great man! Awesome video! Love that Suhr!
