Gr8t videos and thanx for replying to an earlier ?. I hope this doesn't sound a silly question, but in order to get a guitar signal into my PC do I need a separate guitar-usb connection i.e. I can't use the MIDI to usb connection that the axe-editor needs? Is there anything out there that combines both - so I can connect to the editor AND record my guitar signal out of the Axefx using 1 usb? The Suhr guitar's not bad either!!
Hey Maestro Mark which would you put on a suhr modern like yours.......Aldrich or SSH+....both high output but in tone? i know you like the blackouts ....but between those 2
@99mmpick Are you kidding? There ain't a tube amp in the world that this thing doesn't smoke! Buy a good tube poweramp like a Mesa 50:50 or Marshall 9200 Dual Monoblock and a frequency processor and 4x12 cab and your setup will be the envy of any guitarist that ever hears it.
@samhillband LOL. Thanks Mark! Been playing 10-52`s for years, but back with 9-42`s soon on my `62 Custom Shop LTD Strat HR made in 2007. In a vid you are comparason a Les Paul Deluxe and the Suhr Modern. My dream is to have a Suhr Modern sound as close to a Les Paul in the neck pickup possible and as shredding as possible in the bridge. Do you have any idea of chosing wood and humbucker config. to spec a Suhr Modern like I`m describing? May I ask what the acculy specs are for your Suhr Modern?
I have two rigs. One is the AxeFx with an ART SLA2 poweramp and two Randall 2x12's, Ground Control Pro. The other is a Suhr OD100se+ with a GCX Switcher, EVH Phase90, EVH Flanger, Suhr Koko Boost, ISP Decimator, Zakk Wah, EB Vol 25k, and two Mesa 4x12 Recto cabs. Also has a Grond Control Pro.
@samhillband tough question for ya....which do you honestly prefer ??? I would have to guess the axe fx as I never see any clips with the old rig, Is this a fair statement ???
@samhillband Great & if you could only keep one which would it be ??? I guess this is a tricky question since you endorse both. This is a lot of cash for us youtube fans ( you have fans who enjoy the gain & funny faces...........more gain Mark !!) and we value your opinion especially since there is nowhere to try the axe fx to compare. A lot of guys online say the axe fx is so good you will sell your old gear once you try it.
I bookmarked this a while ago and keep coming back to hear the tone. Love it.
What pickups are you using? Do you feel they have a large impact on your tone? I do realize there are a lot of factors involved, not the least of which is a good sounding guitar. But why did you choose the pickups you have, assuming they aren't stock.
@thegreenblade74 Thanks greenblade! I'm using Duncan AHB1 Blackouts. They are very high output, agressive pickups. I've used actives since about 1986. I've tried passives and really tried to like them but I always end up with actives.
@samhillband So far I've been the opposite. I have the AHB1 set but don't like them in any of my guitars. I think I just never really sat down to setup my patches to them and the guitar they're in. I'll have to try that again. Maybe get a better sounding guitar ...
can you give more details on the guitar your using...make/model/pickup...etc.. power amp cab... what are we hearing a mix or the direct and the speaker cab mixed? i think you were mentioning an amp but could make out what your saying
Nice tone and to hell with someone raggin' on you about using the Whammy bar to draw feedback, thats silly, WWHD! What Would Hendrix D........use his whammy bar for feedback.
awesome!!! how did you connect it?for example output 2 - without cab simulation to the ART and then to the cab - mic ...and the direct sound? couse the spdif would mix those two sounds...or did you connect the output 1 to the firewire device? nice
Do you need some kind of mixer to run between the Axe-FX and your PC? I'm new to all of this, and just wondering if I can run a cable from the back of the Axe directly into my Mac and record in Garage Band or what have you.
It's best to use some sort of firewire interface unit but you could go in direct with a proper cable...2 male 1/4" to stereo mini. There will be some latency and the guitar will feel like it's lagging. With a good interface this will be virtually un-noticeable.
You only have the top gear, i'm thinking in get a AXE-FX but i also like a lot of the OD 100 and CAE 3 +, what is the best preamp rack effects you have used? please tell me about your experience.
There are a lot of great ones, I have used G-Force, Eventide H3000se, etc. Though certainly not the best I like the G-Major 1 and 2 for it's ease of use and great midi capabilities :)
Of course the AxeFx blows the top off anything I've used.
Hey Mark, I´ve the G-Force but i´m thinking in sell it to get money to buy the AXE-FX ultra, i see that you also has a OD 100 from CAE, that´s sounds amazing, of all stuffs you have use for preamp and effects the AXE-FX Ultra is the best in your oppinion?
Wow, although I'm a recent youtube afficionado, you seem to have set a new standard for audio as far as I have seen. Sounds pretty outrageous through headphones. Although totally different , Tom Quayle also gets a great tone and plays a Suhr . So, thanks to you and Tom for helping me decide how to max out my home equity loan.
Everytime I see info on an Axe clip I read all this enthusiasm and then I listen and Im like WTF?
That is a very buzzy distortion pedal sound that doesnt sound any different than a Zoom. I wanna like this..I really do but I've got some great amps and a few modelers and for the price this just seems like a very bad case of bias.
Im wondering if this thing cost 300 bucks that modern man would just dismiss it. Its like the $200 belt that everyone doesnt seem to get just holds up your pants.
I've got an Ultra, and i've had plenty of Zooms, Boss's, Line6's and i can tell you that this does NOT sound like a Zoom!! Its head and shoulders about any other digital unit out there. If you think a particular sound is 'buzzy' then it offers plenty of options to instantly get rid of it without sacrificing tone or clarity.
For lead that tone was great, but I don't really like it that much for rhythm. Sort of... bland. But nevertheless, sounds like I might consider getting one in the future (if I win the lottery).
Hey Mark I was wondering if you could do a cover of Hardline's Can't find my way? I love the tone!

Cool Tone Bro.
Which Guitar do You preffer the PRS or the Suhr and why??
ibajem96 1 year ago
@ibajem96
I like the Suhr best, it plays like butter, the stainless steel frets are incredible. The guitar sounds so "clear" and cuts through everything.
I still use the PRS for drop tuning stuff and it's a great guitar too...but I prefer the Suhr.
