I've been a part of SGC for about 8 months now, and I haven't regretted a single moment. Am auditioning for the 45's (smaller group that's part of the bigger group) in hopefully the next few weeks. Love it love it
Being part of the SGC is one of the most fun things in my life. Amazing people - especially our wonderful Andrew with his wonderful stories and energy, and Maria with her unbelievable voice and wisdom. Everyone puts their all into singing there and the result is a sound that blows me away every time. I can come to gospel choir on a Wednesday night feeling tired and drained, and at the end of the rehearsal I am energised and alive again. What an amazing group of people.
Hrmm, well living in the North would be tricky. Rehearsals are weekly and it's pretty important to come to all of them, or as many as possible, and there are a lot more rehearsals close to gigs.
I just like the vibe your choir has although I've never sung Gospel before. I sing with a little choir in the village next to ours but its not as cool as you guys! Anyway, as my mother says,I do heaps of music stuff...cello, piano, musical theatre and my fave style is opera...my singing teacher is really cool too and puts up with me wanting to do all the major sop arias...even though I'm a 13 year old boy! You guys are really wicked. Cheers
Oh wow, you're a guy? That's excellent! Gospel music is SO much fun. Full of energy, it's great. And in our choir we work with some of the best musicians in Tasmania! Well if you're a soprano you'd be welcome to sing in the sopranos if you pass the audition, I think so anwyay... Andrew Legg's son used to sing soprano. But we always need more tenors too!
I think I just saw Pam Andrews in the vid...she sang with us as a soloist in the Messiah in December. That was my first solo gig...got to do four recitatives. Pam's voice is lovely.
I've just recently joined the Southern Gospel Choir - at the beginning of this year - and it's so great to be a part of something bigger. It's about real people, real stories, real music, and real life - we grasp hold of the best of all these and combine it all to make the finished product. It's so much fun, and definitely a worthwhile experience.

Nope. We've had members pretty much from 8 to 80. Why, how old are you?

I'm 13. But I live in Northern Tas and mum says I do too much now...

Haha! You really want to be in the choir that much? I don't blame you! But maybe you should audition BEFORE moving! :P

When is it the start of the next semester?

I'm not sure off the top of my head, but you can find all this stuff out by calling the Conservatorium, or even just the Uni.
