So glad to have found these interviews to get inside the man. Several years ago I went to my first Jazz Festival in Woodland WA just to see Jonathan, who had become my favorite artist. As he was introduced, the MC asked "what can you say about Jonathan Butler?" Maybe if I had known I might have said 'God's Champion', in a way but his music had saved me, so I couldn't help but call out "HERO!" He still is.
