His screaming is the most punk and intense vocals I've heard from the 60's. Even more intense than Iggy Pop in "1969" and more intense than Mick Jagger in "Monkey Man".
There's something so powerful about the few black singers working in rock at this period, others being Arthur Lee, and Carl Anderson from JCSuperstar. Some genuine earthy pain or experience or whatever...
