We just started a few days ago and we're on to a good start. Check us out and sub only if you really like it :) Thanks everyone
i do have a question or two. im overweight , at least 30 kilos.since a week i do strength training on monday , wednesday, friday. and i do cardio on the other days . with sundays off.
30 mins cross trainer , 30 mins cycling , 30 mins fast walking. I'm eating as regular and healthy as i can and my budget allows.
Because of my excess weight , my body will use my stored fat as an energy source and not my muscle then?
No, you would have to run 2 marathons a day for you to burn muscle as stated in the video. Don't worry that's a good thing to do so that you don't experience cramps.
Here is where the myth comes from. People who go from not doing cardio to doing cardio raise their TDEE as you discussed in your video, but do not change their diets so their body is forced to burn muscle. If your going to do cardio, especially heavily, you must diet accordingly or else your workouts will just be wasted because your body is not getting proper nutrition
@TheRedApache A few days ago i watched a video by Will Brink who said that doing cardio on an empty stomach is no better than doing it on non-empty and can infact burn muscle.
@ObesityMyth Bodybuilders BUILD their BODIES into a shape they like. The clue is the name. Perhaps if you made an attempt at knowing what you're talking about, you wouldn't look so ridiculous.
@ObesityMyth So you're saying the average joe should attempt to turn themself into a strongman or Navy Seal? No, that's not practical. I agree that Seals and whatnot are more fit, but they are fit to the extreme, which is just no practical for a person whose job is not covert military operations. Bodybuilding is meeting in the middle; you look good and are more fit than the average joe, and you can have the time to do it, but they're still no Seal.
EDUCATE YOURSELF on the subject of obesity. SCIENCE demonstrates exercise is only good for a 1 to 2 pound weight loss. THAT is what the scientific literature says
I don't believe in the "I can eat whatever and not get fat." Thing. I've always considered myself one of those, but I do think that the "teens" you've talked about stuff their face with junk, not nutrition. If any teen uses a diet based on one of yours, I think they can and will gain weight.
I have just started to applying this to my fitnessprogam along with your advanced intermediate program.. Apperently it is much more effective than regular cardio (including intervals), but than again everything "new" is..
But somehow i think this makes sense..
What do you think about this high intencity cardio training?
It's not for beginners though.. (Excuse me for my bad English.)
@rgmcall yes, if you do cardio in the morning before eating you will burn more fat, as there is no food to use for fuel so the body moves onto the fat as there is no fuel in the stomach
I found the study the sited in this video... google "is running through pain a good idea" I'll copy and paste it here.
"...results showed that runners lost an average of 5.4% body volume during the course of the race... The runners lost about 11 pounds of fat and 2 1/2 pounds of muscle..."
If you do your math based on these numbers. The average runner weighed 250lbs at the start of the race. How many 250lb runners do you know?
i have always been told that sprinting instead of just running is far better for burning fat? and that going fo long runs will reduce your muscle mass so can i go back to long runs now? becaue sprinting first thing in the day up a hill is awful lol

how come on askscooby forums theres a post explaining losing muscle from bad nutrition is only a myth??? on that post it says you won't lose muscle no matter how calorie deficit your diet is, and that you will burn muscle when your fat gets very low or you are not eating at all! what's missing? it's already confusing :|!!
for the primary phases of cardio you'll burn carbs, then fats and proteins. once your body is in the secondary phases of cardioactivity, and your body is burning fats and proteins, if it DIDNT burn muscle and tissue proteins, then u should be able to see fat come off in an hour.
I do agree that cardio does help you build more muscle.
I recently started weight training again, having quit some 3 years ago. With one major difference, however. Since back then I did not do any cardio as I had a firm belief that combining cardio with muscle building exercises wouldn't work - In around 2 months I had visible results of muscle growth but I was still quite chubby. Now that I restarted lifting, I did it with cardio and got visible results in just 3 weeks - also I lost some fat!
I just saw on 'What's good for you' that 1km of walking nearly equals 1km of running. I find it kinda strange. Do you think it is possible to get your heart rate up to a proper level and actually burn fat?
Personally I'd prefer long walks. More relaxing, comfartable, not that bad for joints etc. But is it any good for the purpose?
I ended up loosing 15lbs that winter and it got my legs and body really fit but I seemed scrawny cause it was just muscle and bone left on my body. Well I did gain some back now but it still is hard to gain back what I lost while I am still walking alot delivering mail on my route. I been trying to eat more.
I am a mailman and I have alot of walking on my route that I do 6 days a week. Most of the day I am walking but more like running cause I have to sometimes to get it done. I am probably running around 4 hrs everyday with a bag of mail that gets up to 50lbs. During the winter I was upset cause I been trying to gain weight for years and just because of this job during the winter I had to run even more cause there was no cutting through yards it was all up and down driveways to each house.
I like all your backgrounds. Where'd you get them? It's very relaxing! I noticed they're not just static picture but a video. The water buffaloes are moving. Awsome!
Scooby, I've wrestled for my school for 3 years now, the problem is was this year during the wrestling season. The other two years I didn't have this problem, the problem is I had a little knee trouble this year. Is there any explanation for having knee trouble this year and not the others?
amazing video scooby, iv been following your videos since the beguinning and this one helped me the most, i love running, now i know i can still do both.
a friend of mine was very very VERY skinny. his arms looked like they would break every second. so he has done exercises for 1 year now and had a good nutrition and protein powder. now he is the most muscular 17year old i've ever seen. it looks great. i want to do the same but i have too much bodyfat so i will do what scooby says :P
Hey man i was feeling so afraid to do cardio everyday to get my 6 pack, although i have the will and motivation for it. I was doing it only twice a week to avoid loosing muscle. Thanks a lot for this vid it opened my eyes ! Greetings from Bulgaria !
I got a question also about muscle types i heard that fast twitch muscles gain muscle and strength faster however if you do alot of cardio and convert those into slow twitch you'll lose the faster muscle gain by having different muscle type
Switching fiber types is being studied, but they aren't 100% sure right now. Training type can cause certain fibers to develop faster like focusing on burst exercises for the (type II) fast twitch group, which are called so because they fire fast, but burn out quick since they are poor at aerobically creating fuel.
Endurance training hits the (type I) slow twitch which are great at making ATP from inhalation. Train for your sport/goal & those fibers adapt. Its not magic.
Hi everyone, if your looking to get ripped, toned and defined muscles, please, follow my channel, im a trainer, i have helped over 50 people get defined muscles and get many others slim and strong. Or you could always e-mail me with question at muscleexplosion@yahoo.com
@saderguy Yes i do have training, do i have certification, no. I'm currently going to school to earn my degree so i can then be a certified trainer. I know the basics and i know a lot about nutrition and i have many different workout routines that have worked for various people.
@saderguy Being a CPT means NOTHING. Most classes you can take ONLINE! That's why 99% of personal trainers you see at the gym are a joke and know nothing. Never disregard something someone says just because they don't have a piece of paper. Most bodybuilders know more than pt's, nutritionists and biochemists.
@NJnaturalBB when did i disregard what anyone said? all i asked was a simple question, nothing implied, just out of curiosity - even scooby's not a cpt, so i know that good info can come from anywhere!
Heh no. Muscle isn't a direct indicator of health. Sure its better than being fat, but cardiovascular fitness means more for general health. If someone is jacked up and 7% bodyfat, but has 155/100 blood pressure, an enlarged heart, & high cholesterol they are not healthy.
I have seen guys who are huge, but cant run 20 feet without being winded. When I was 19 my friend destroyed this roided 260ish lb. biker clown after the guy threw a few punches & was so gassed he about passed out.
@scooby1961 can you help me? I/m 16 years old and i'm super skinny, i've done some gym and bulking but it hasn't done much. I'm only 55kg at the moment. I want to get a nice well balanced body to show off to the ladies, can you help me diet wise and a suitable routine? Thanks in advance
Scooby I'm confused about something on your calculator. I'm 32 male 240 pounds. @ 202 lbs. I'd be 10% body fat. I've put on some muscle over the last 4-5 months since I started some weight lifting. I walk 6.25 miles a day / 10 Km a day 7 days a week as I don't work. This is my only exercise in a day. your calculator says I my TDEE is 3461 and my calories to gain muscle lose fat is 3461 . my BMR is 2233, I for now want to lose fat , maintain muscle 3461 I get fat, im on 2000 cal. is that bad?
Hey scooby, I have a question that I hope either you or a viewer can answer.
I do cardio and weigth lifting in the morning. I don't eat before I do my workouts because I get sick if I eat before I workout, I like doing my workout on an empty stomach. Typically I only have a protein shake after I workout and then eat a "real" meal 3 hours later. Is this and okay eating schedule? Many say I should eat before I workout but I hate to do it.
@MrAsaphelps Strive to eat a meal before you workout, doesn't have to be a huge meal sometimes I'll just eat a PB sandwich and a glass of milk. If not try to drink a protein shake 30 minutes pre-workout, and another shake within 30 minutes post-workout. And if you can try eating your post-workout meal within 2 hours after working out instead of about 3.
Hey Scooby can you do a video for skinny kids that would like to gain weight? It doesn't even necessarily have to be complete muscle weight... just weight in general.
@mikeofholdem Theres no need for a video bro. If your not gaining weight, it means your not eating enough calories. Simply increase your calories by about 200 then see if you gain some weight.
thanks for the advice on cardio scooby, it makes sense, currently at the moment I do muscle building but I also play sports. Apart from running and biking in the gym, I also swim 3 times a week, one hour a day and basketball twice a week, 2 hours a day. Does all this count as rediculous cardio? If so what form of cardio whould I cut down on? Thanks
I get people ask me in the gym about cardio and how they've heard it 'burns muscle so they don't do it often' It really makes me want to shout in there face and punch them silly.
scooby I would like to know your opinion on P90X! I have been doing it for about 2 months, but I cant get rib off that extra little fat in the belly. How can I get rib off it! I have a six pack because I can feel it, but i only see like 4 packs
I am so tired of this conventional "wisdom" from empty heads. There is a better, more natural solution. It does not require any semi-starvation diets or non-fat diets. I CAN HELP!
@NJnaturalBB Well, it is too complicated to merely give you an adequate answer over YouTube, but as common knowledge stands, reduced calorie and low-fat diets do not work. They do yield an immediate response. But again, the result is only temporarily. Being on such diets will not result. If, say, a person who is a bodybuilder for over 20 years continues on such a diet, then he/she would begin to develop severe health problems over the years.
@pekenosmokey I have been on many diets for over 10 years, including keto, carb-cycling or the plain old caloric deficit. At the age of 24 but I would consider myself extremely fit with outstanding health. And throughout the years I've only been making progress, whether it be shedding body-fat or packing on mass so that debunks your theory on how low fat or reduced calorie diets do not "work". As far as the long term health problems are concerned, that is too ridiculous to even debate about.
@rjchargersfan22@rjchargersfan22 I've read and watched about everything Scooby has, and I've seen where he is strictly against youth using any substances, including creatine. He has talked about how these substances can stunt your growth. I have a 15 yr old son in football who has been training w/weights for some time, and we both like Scooby's "natural" approach to working out. Hope this helps. Read through his website. It's great info.
@rjchargersfan22 While there is no scientific evidence supporting creatine is safe for a teenager at your age, there is no scientific evidence supporting its dangerous. There is very little risk involved in creatine usage, I say go for it. But still do thorough research as you would any supplement your thinking of taking.
Excuse me, I lost 30 kg in about a year and my skin is kind of stretchy, I've got like tiny stretchy man boobs, I'm currently 17 years old and I weigh 73 kg, is there any way to kind of get rid of the excess skin ? Thanks.
We know almost everything about your exercise habits and greatly appreciate your sharing. Thank you so much! On the other hand it would be great if you could also share with us your other routines of daily life (work etc.), so we could understand how you combine it all and keep that fantastic motivation and form.
Is 17 km a day too intense cardio? I usually do 6 kms in the morning at the park and the rest in the gym at night, when I also lift heavyweights. I do this 6 times a week, and on Saturday I cycle almost all day ( I go to a nearby village - Bistritza, which is about 20 kms away from my town and backwards it makes 40 kms). I've been maintaining this training for about a month already and I've lost about 6 kgs( I was 76 kg, now I'm 70 1.80m high). I don't know whether this is good or not :-/
Scooby, I am sorry to say this and I know that it will not please you that I choose to lose weight this way, but the best results that I have ever achieved were from Wrestling.
@haerilee Definitely the elliptical if you want a short intense cardio workout because using an elliptical activates more muscle groups than a stationary bike its going to burn more calories than the bike. But if you want a long workout where you can do things such as watch a movie I would recommend a stationary bike. But in my opinion nothing is better than buying a great mountain bike and going outdoors!

You see FITNESS has NOTHING to do with how you LOOK. it iis ALL about PERFORMANCE. FEDOR is VERY VERY FIT. but a bit dumpy
NAVY SEALS and Army Rangers are VERY fit, MUCH more fit than a bodybuilder . Professional Strongmen are MUCH stronger than bodybuilders.
What PURPOSE do bodybuilders have ? They are LAME. And if you want to LIFT for fitness then lift STONES or OLYMPIC LIFT
THAT is fitness. Being low body fat does NOT equal fitness necessarily.

for the primary phases of cardio you'll burn carbs, then fats and proteins. once your body is in the secondary phases of cardioactivity, and your body is burning fats and proteins, if it DIDNT burn muscle and tissue proteins, then u should be able to see fat come off in an hour.

limpdipshitsucks 10 months ago
I do agree that cardio does help you build more muscle.
I recently started weight training again, having quit some 3 years ago. With one major difference, however. Since back then I did not do any cardio as I had a firm belief that combining cardio with muscle building exercises wouldn't work - In around 2 months I had visible results of muscle growth but I was still quite chubby. Now that I restarted lifting, I did it with cardio and got visible results in just 3 weeks - also I lost some fat!

Hey Scooby!
But is it any good for the purpose?
toronte 10 months ago
I ended up loosing 15lbs that winter and it got my legs and body really fit but I seemed scrawny cause it was just muscle and bone left on my body. Well I did gain some back now but it still is hard to gain back what I lost while I am still walking alot delivering mail on my route. I been trying to eat more.
ItalianLeprechaun 10 months ago
I am a mailman and I have alot of walking on my route that I do 6 days a week. Most of the day I am walking but more like running cause I have to sometimes to get it done. I am probably running around 4 hrs everyday with a bag of mail that gets up to 50lbs. During the winter I was upset cause I been trying to gain weight for years and just because of this job during the winter I had to run even more cause there was no cutting through yards it was all up and down driveways to each house.
ItalianLeprechaun 10 months ago
is good to do cardio at least 15min everyday or after working out?

I got a question also about muscle types i heard that fast twitch muscles gain muscle and strength faster however if you do alot of cardio and convert those into slow twitch you'll lose the faster muscle gain by having different muscle type
HybridTheory7777 10 months ago
@HybridTheory7777

@MuscleExplosion do you have certification, training, etc?
saderguy 10 months ago
@saderguy Yes i do have training, do i have certification, no. I'm currently going to school to earn my degree so i can then be a certified trainer. I know the basics and i know a lot about nutrition and i have many different workout routines that have worked for various people.
MuscleExplosion 10 months ago
@saderguy Being a CPT means NOTHING. Most classes you can take ONLINE! That's why 99% of personal trainers you see at the gym are a joke and know nothing. Never disregard something someone says just because they don't have a piece of paper. Most bodybuilders know more than pt's, nutritionists and biochemists.
NJnaturalBB 10 months ago
@NJnaturalBB when did i disregard what anyone said? all i asked was a simple question, nothing implied, just out of curiosity - even scooby's not a cpt, so i know that good info can come from anywhere!
saderguy 10 months ago
isnt gaining muscle the same as being healthy lol
inofe 10 months ago
@inofe

MrAsaphelps 10 months ago
@MrAsaphelps Strive to eat a meal before you workout, doesn't have to be a huge meal sometimes I'll just eat a PB sandwich and a glass of milk. If not try to drink a protein shake 30 minutes pre-workout, and another shake within 30 minutes post-workout. And if you can try eating your post-workout meal within 2 hours after working out instead of about 3.
NJnaturalBB 10 months ago
Hi scooby. Quick question for ya. I like to do alot of isometrics. Should this be done before or after pumping weights. Thanks.
MilkmasterG 10 months ago
Hey Scooby can you do a video for skinny kids that would like to gain weight? It doesn't even necessarily have to be complete muscle weight... just weight in general.
mikeofholdem 10 months ago
@mikeofholdem Theres no need for a video bro. If your not gaining weight, it means your not eating enough calories. Simply increase your calories by about 200 then see if you gain some weight.

thanks for the advice on cardio scooby, it makes sense, currently at the moment I do muscle building but I also play sports. Apart from running and biking in the gym, I also swim 3 times a week, one hour a day and basketball twice a week, 2 hours a day. Does all this count as rediculous cardio? If so what form of cardio whould I cut down on? Thanks

Good info, most body builders disagree with you on this subject, but you have it correct.

NJnaturalBB 10 months ago
I am so tired of this conventional "wisdom" from empty heads. There is a better, more natural solution. It does not require any semi-starvation diets or non-fat diets. I CAN HELP!
pekenosmokey 10 months ago
@pekenosmokey Elaborate...
NJnaturalBB 10 months ago
@NJnaturalBB Well, it is too complicated to merely give you an adequate answer over YouTube, but as common knowledge stands, reduced calorie and low-fat diets do not work. They do yield an immediate response. But again, the result is only temporarily. Being on such diets will not result. If, say, a person who is a bodybuilder for over 20 years continues on such a diet, then he/she would begin to develop severe health problems over the years.
pekenosmokey 10 months ago
@pekenosmokey I have been on many diets for over 10 years, including keto, carb-cycling or the plain old caloric deficit. At the age of 24 but I would consider myself extremely fit with outstanding health. And throughout the years I've only been making progress, whether it be shedding body-fat or packing on mass so that debunks your theory on how low fat or reduced calorie diets do not "work". As far as the long term health problems are concerned, that is too ridiculous to even debate about.

rjchargersfan22 10 months ago
@rjchargersfan22 @rjchargersfan22 I've read and watched about everything Scooby has, and I've seen where he is strictly against youth using any substances, including creatine. He has talked about how these substances can stunt your growth. I have a 15 yr old son in football who has been training w/weights for some time, and we both like Scooby's "natural" approach to working out. Hope this helps. Read through his website. It's great info.
teufelhundenO311 10 months ago
@rjchargersfan22 While there is no scientific evidence supporting creatine is safe for a teenager at your age, there is no scientific evidence supporting its dangerous. There is very little risk involved in creatine usage, I say go for it. But still do thorough research as you would any supplement your thinking of taking.

I barely have the time to go to a gym so i'm debating on getting an elliptical or stationary bike for cardio, which in your opinion is better?
haerilee 10 months ago
@haerilee Definitely the elliptical if you want a short intense cardio workout because using an elliptical activates more muscle groups than a stationary bike its going to burn more calories than the bike. But if you want a long workout where you can do things such as watch a movie I would recommend a stationary bike. But in my opinion nothing is better than buying a great mountain bike and going outdoors!
