  • @3sweetthings So that we can have something better than Miley Cyrus.

  • this song is the reason y i love to play piccolo :P

  • Love the clarinet part on this. I'm playing 3rd in my school band.

  • I love this song. I love how Persichetti uses the french horn as a hand of instrument or the bridge between brass and woodwind.

  • Playing this on bassoon, the slow corale section is awesome, I'm in unison with the horns in parts.

  • 1st Alto part <3 :D

  • Im impressed with myself that i can finally get out those notes that are written way to high! Piccolo ftw!

  • @GandKcreations I just played this on piccolo too., it was awesome- gave me trouble though for the longest time.

  • This guy is completely uninhibited by key signatures haha. Great piece though, and fun to play!

  • My band is playing this along with Seagate Overture (love it) and Emblem of Unity. This is probably my favorite.

  • although I like our band's instrumental balance better (besides the 3 trombones, 1 bass trombone, 1 euphonium, and 1 bassoon) I wish our band played like this.

  • @scrulesman1234 Are you saying trombones don't blend well? You betta take that back! no jk but Trombones are the hardest instrument to blend because they are hardest to tune. If your slide positions are even a centimeter off than you will sound out of tune. Its insanely hard.

  • @BrianRobertsfan I play trombone...we also have no excuse to be OUT of tune :/

  • I played this my freshman year at Palm Desert HS, the last year before the bandroom was torn down. Now, every time I hear this, I can see, hear, and smell the bandroom.

    Rest in peace, old bandroom.

  • 7:00-7:04 Incredible clarinet run (complete with alternate fingerings of doom)

  • Clarinets rule!!!

  • My high school's playing this for Concert Festival!

    Fuck yea ;D

  • @Reminescie i love this song my highschool is also playing it

  • @Reminescie Dude, no way! My high school is playing it too!

    Oh, wait....

We go to the same school....

  • @TheOwlking1996

    No shit? XD

  • @TheOwlking1996 no way!!! I'm playing this at my school too!!! :D

  • @Reminescie Whoa my band is playing this for Concert Festival too :o

  • Do you have Gregson's Sword and The Crown?

  • Holy cow concertbandland. You have literally every piece my hs band has played in the last year.

  • Our symphonic band just started working on this piece today. (director introduced this 2 weeks ago, but never touched it until today.) We fail at it, but it still sounds cool! I was suprised that low brass got to have the melody more than one time. I still have to say I like Emperata Overture by I believe Claude T Smith? And some kind of song that our band used to play, before I was even in it.

  • i played this at uncg summer music camp.

  • Can't express how much I love this piece, played it as a high school sophomore. My conductor took the tempo a little slower but nonetheless this is absolutely amazing. Go french horns!

  • we are playing this in our symphonic band its awesome

  • No dislikes! Just as it should be.

  • I believe the last chord is Bbmaj7b7#11b11.

    Is that correct?

  • @Thundermonkeyms

I like yours!! haha I had a Eb 11 #4 as my diagnosis

  • @Thundermonkeyms or every not in the Bb major scale, if that's what you are stating

  • I loved this piece so much when I played it in wind ensemble a year ago. Of all the pieces that I've played, it's up there with Joy Revisited (Ticheli) and Children's March (Grainger).

  • Our guest conductor told us really cool things about this piece, like that he stacks the motif during the end-ish of the 2nd mvt and the tone cluster at the end is actually missing B, F#, and C# (the motif). Pretty slick!

  • I like how concertbandland gives each composer their ow color...

  • @TheWolfer90 own*

  • This piece is very beautiful!

  • @volberdingde Indeed!

  • my friend matt boyco told me about this song im a tuba player and wow i want to play this now lol

  • I miss playing this :'(. I played this my freshmen and now I'm going to be a junior. Time goes by way too fast.

  • Persichetti is the best.

  • The last chord is something along the lines of Bb7(natural7#11natural11)

We played this in concert band, it was kickass. :D

  • @Thundermonkeyms its all 12 notes possible at once

  • Comment removed

  • IM EATING AN OTTER POP OMFG ITS SOOOO GOOOD!

    \

  • I actually analysed the chord at the end. IF I am right, which I double checked it, with the exception of a few doubled notes it is actually ALL of the chromatic pitches all at once. C and Bb are doubled I suppose, but in fact all of the chromatic pitches are being played.

  • @the81stviewer Incorrect. There are three missing. It is the same three notes that the French Horn at the beginning plays, but in a different key.

  • @MaverickNate I don't want to argue. How horrible that people argue on youtube videos! But I will say that I carefully line by line went over the unstransposed (C) score, and recorded line by line the note on that line, even doubled ones. I ended up having written all of the chromatic pitches. I am new at score study, so I could have missed something, but the score is in C, untransposed so I am reading the pitches being heard. Since I have to write a long paper on this, can you tell me more?

  • @the81stviewer All I know is that we analyzed the last chord in class, while also having access to the director's score, and how there are the three I mentioned not included.

  • @the81stviewer are you talking about this piece or the ending of Symphony No. 6? The final chord in Symphony for band is a twelve note chord, but it's probably arranged as a polychord as you can hear a strong E major stacked with a B major chord pierce through.

The final chord in pageant Is "believe" is a #15 chord , or could be analysed as a polychord. Ebmaj7 with with an Fmaj7 on top

  • is Haven Dance on your channel by Chance?...haha...by chance...its a pun

  • @KodaRollins Havendance is actually written by David Holsinger, named after his daughter Haven. Unless John Barnes Chance wrote a song named Haven Dance in which I don't think so.

  • @bbbiggs i had a brain fart. i meant to put Incantation and Dance

  • i just played this song for festival in montebello..to bad we got a rating of excellent

  • Don't get me wrong, the North Texas Wind Symphony is a phenomonal band (to say the least.) But we are playing this song right now (I play clarinet) and this band made upper woodwinds too loud, especially oboes. The brass play some pretty cool stuff. Just a different view, I guess. I'm a freshman, BTW. I kinda like this song.

  • we are playing this in my group right now.. it's good stuff

  • Haha I played this in eighth grade on flute, so since I still had the flute parts, I decided to play along on piccolo about ten minutes ago using the 2nd flute part and learning 1st flute part and piccolo part at the same time. It was pretty okish/decent lol

  • 0 people disliked these chords.

  • Clarinets are amazing!

  • We are playing this song at my music school! Superior piece of music!

  • Playing this in Freshman Wind ensemble. So catchy ^.^

  • We are playing this at our school, too. The percussion part for this song bores me to death. The snare doesn't even play until measure 73! I hate resting.

  • Where have I heard this before. It reminds me of a Disney film...

  • Bassoon part kicks butt (:

  • i played this in my junior year in my high school symphonic band i was first trumpet and i cried and laughed it was so fun

  • FLUTES FOR LIFE <3 X4

  • oboes forever <3 <3 <3

  • I really love this piece. It's probably one of my favorites.

    Bassoon 1 <3

  • This comment will randomly get thumbs up.

  • I, personally, could listen to the bass' melody at 5:12 all day. Truly catchy haha

  • the oboe at 1:16 just makes the piece....for me atleast

  • We're playing this piece in my band. I hope we can sound this good when we perform it!

    This is an amazing piece!

  • Oh the last chord :)

  • @hesmineforever2007 the only chord in the world that can be played 100% correctly and still sound like crap. :P

  • I love the fast part

  • Go french horns

  • @K0S0s Paul thinks Mr. Francis is trying to kill him

  • Pretty Sure this is the North Texas Wind Symphony as well. I went to a High School in Denton near UNT, and we played this for the BOA concert festival in Indianapolis. We listened to this recording, I think not completely sure.

  • @pinkfloydsman2010 Yea i listend to their peice today in class

  • just curious, where did you get this version from, because it is really nice? Also do you know if there is a website that has recordings like this that i can listen to for free?

  • I <3 the oboe player in this band! This is an awesome recording.

  • @henyias I was there too! Second alto. :] That was a fun weekend, haha.

  • Beautiful ♥

    So fun to play. =)

  • I Love this piece! my concert band played it last year in the North American Music Festival. it was my favorite! i play alto sax and i really loved my part. (we came in second, but we DID totally mess up the warm-up piece) anywhoo now i'm depressed because i would love to play this again, but i left my music over the summer and they cleared out the music folders... :( there's this one part near the end when most of the band all plays extremely similar parts and it just sounds beautiful.

  • @PaintYourFuture There's one part near the beginning that continues until just about the end where the band plays a bunch of parts, and it just sounds beautiful.

  • When i was a sophomore at North Farmington High School, i was in concert winds, and we played this song. Good times, and memories.

  • This is probably my favorite piece, along with chorale and shaker dance. It brings back so many memories

  • @vaiol123 this song has so much passion in it and it brings alot of memories back...

  • @THETHIRDL2009 Im not one who cries, but I cry almost every time I hear it

  • @vaiol123 men cry too...lol

  • its not that advanced...i played it when i was in 10th grade..it was our contest piece...we got superiors...I played horn for it...it looks intimidating, but after a while its easy. Go Horns!!!

  • @mellosramazing well, musically it it. anyone can play notes and rhythm. NOT everyone can make "music" out of it, if you know what i mean.... i might be getting to abstract here... but yeah, i bet u know what im talking about!

    -a fellow horn player! :)

  • its not that advanced...i played it when i was in 10th grade..it was our contest piece...we got superiors :)

  • we're playing this in wind ensemble. the first half is so amazing to play with the enire band producing that beautiful sound & the second half is so fun to play :) go flutes <3

  • @jderdmann

Agreed!! People look up the word "song" in the dictionary. It is not an appropriate word for use with instrumental pieces!! "Composition", "work", "piece" are more correct terms.

  • @jderdmann You make me proud ^_^ It seems like a grammatical error when people call it a song.

  • @jderdmann Well, there are some songs without lyrics, like Metallica's "Call of Ktulu" or Rush's "YYZ". So I wouldn't necessarily say that.

  • my high school did this in concert band is was really fun and really hard to learn =D very nice piece

  • This is a great piece, so well crafted and interesting. Persichetti was brilliant at writing great works for band.

  • haha i played this as a freshman in high school, we took it to our state festavle and got a 1, in a junior now, i played like 3rd trumpet or cornet, something like that

  • im playing this on bassoon as a freshmen in high school, its not that hard but its so fun :D

  • We're playing this song now! Such a great piece for trumpets in the fast section!

  • What a great song! its a lot faster than what my band played, but its still great (:

  • I remember playing this when I was a sophomore in high school ^_^

  • we played this song my freshmen year in highschool. We got first in our division at contest. Judge's were amazed lol.

  • i love this song....beautiful in the beginning ^^

  • love this song! We're playing this in his band. Love the beginning it sooo graceful and hymn-like.

  • YES I LOVE THIS SONG I COULDNT FIND IT...EVERYTIME I LOOKED IT UP I CAN GETTING BEAUTY PAGEANTS im so pissed off becuz the only chance i had to play this song was with another band and they wanted to play it all by themselves cuz it was there band director last year there

  • I love thing song so much. brings me back memories of mr.k and not dris-bitch.

  • we're playing this now in wind ensemble. This piece gives me goosebumps.

The range in first clarinet is perfect, too.

Not too high, and not in those ugly throat tones that always come out sharp if they don't tune properly.

I think I'm doing pretty well, though:]

    Go clarinets!

  • The composer was a profeesor at Eastman School of Music at the time he wrote most of his band works.

  • The composer was a professor at Eastman School of Music at the time he wrote most of his band works.

  • @LSysyn15 Don't forget the lonely bass clarinet ^_^ Ahh the parts are amazing on the entire piece, but sadly there are two timid clarinet players in the wind ensemble I'm in who kill the wonderful sound... Gladly, everyone else is magnificent. ^_^ This piece is beautiful.

  • @LSysyn15 i know, it's so cool, i need to convince my conductor to do this

  • Great song has some very godly high notes for first chair bassoon

  • I'm pretty sure our highest note is an A above the staff.. Considering that we can go up to the E above that, it's not "very godly high" although it is in our high register.

  • I love this song!

It sounds so good. Especially the end, the last chord.... so nice. :)

My friend played this last year, (gr.9) and I went to her concert and loved it. My BD doesn't want to play it though. T_T

  • we did this in my wind ensemble last year. Great song, I was playing first trombone, so I had a huge amount of fun playing the beginning. great song!

  • What ensemble performed in this recording? I love this piece so much. i played it for All-Region last year my freshman year and we're playing it my school this year. :) Thank you for uploading this!

  • Good upload. Long overdue.

  • what an amazing piece. I'm playing it this year as a junior in high school and its great.

  • I remember playing this song in high school. Picture it, I am the only french horn. I have the first three notes of the song. We are at a competition, and I choke. Squeeked the second note. Still haunts me today....

  • @bowinkle33 omg! im soo scared!!! im the only f horn, and sate competition is next week!! I soo scared im gonna choke! :( and to make matter worse, i just broke my left arm, so its even harder to play!!! :((((

  • @bowinkle33 thats so horrible....u just shouldnt messed this up lol

  • woah! i played this in 7th grade and STILL remember how amazing it was!!!!! i love this piece!

  • R u sure u played this,caz this song is for advanced musicians..no offence

  • Ya, it didn't turn out that fantastically, but our band director liked throwing challenging stuff at us to see how we handled it.

we played a song like it every year. 8th grade was variations on a korean folk song.

  • OOOoooo

  • @6DADADA Are you sure you typed that? Because posting on the internet is for people with advanced language skills ... no offense.

If only that were true. lol

  • @Grimesface I typed like that because I didn't feel like writing in a complete sentence. The term is slang, alright. I still think their band didn't play this song.

  • @Grimesface ...No offense

  • @6DADADA Hahaha none taken. My apologies for coming at you like that, I realize it sounded more troll-ish than I intended.

  • @Grimesface yea it did Lol

  • @6DADADA You would be surprised by what some high school bands can play. If the musicians are dedicated and the director is focused, high school bands can be as successful as professional symphonies.

  • @DancingBandGeek what are you smoking?!?!? I was tlkn about the person that said there 7th grade band play it

  • Comment removed

  • This is my favorite piece for band ever written. I played this at All-District my junior year. I played oboe.

  • played this at band festival my junior year high school 05'-06' i was a percussionist though but i loved listening to the first half so melodic : )
