  • way cool! we did a piece on the UK solar car team

  • is it safe or would u be a gonner if u got in an accident

  • i heard these cars can go up to 85 mph.

  • its funny, 2009...queen's u was back to promoting a gas powered car, that could give the driver, excess of 1 g forces on turns.

  • truly awesome, it proves that gasoline is retarded...

  • this is something to talk about...

    anyone else want one?

  • Cha Gheil!! QSCT, you makes us proud!

  • I wonder if any of these solar powered vehicles can magnify solar energy for those not so sunny days. You know? Basically squeeze and milk every bit available at any given time to keep it running

  • how much its cost? very fast and good design.

  • That is one sick looking puppy! (in a good way) A few questions: What is the battery rule if there is any? I'm sure it has to have something for when it gets cloudy !? Also what happened at 1:57 pushing it ? Tough hill or was there some issues? Anyways looks like a beautiful sleek and cool design. Must be tons of fun to be part of something like that. Congrats!

  • All the rules for the competition (and there are many! :)) are indicated on the North American Solar Challenge website. The project is tons of fun. The team consists of university students who design, build and race a solar electric car. It's awesome. The clip where my teammates were pushing the car was at a tough hill. Thanks for watching!

  • i would shit myself if one of those overtook me

  • haha, I've heard people say it looks like aliens are invading the earth. :)

  • Where does the child restraint seat go..along with my 240lb mother in law?

  • hehe, funny bubbs747. Thanks for watching :)

  • so cool

  • Thanks amahay for watching!

  • please can i have a help on my project ? ..

  • Fantastic solar car. Looks good to. I like the opeing of the car to let the 2 (?) drivers out. Chosebin25 can you give us details (top speed, wieght soler panel efficiency etc). Thanx for uploading

  • Top speed was approximately 120 km/h, weight was about 450-500 lbs (without the 2 drivers) and solar panel efficiency ranged from 20-26%.

  • Beautiful!!!

  • Thanks stopmojirm!! I'm glad you like it!

  • hey im wondering how much does it cost to build that beautiful car???

  • first Solar Car is turkish invent

  • first Solar Car is turkish invent

  • You know what...you should have a car in front of this solar car playing this track while driving thrue cities...it would be soooo melodramatic :)

  • hehe, great idea Nichen! :) We used to listen to this song a lot actually when building and driving the car :)

  • isn't this the theme from Cosmos? The begining at least? Either way, Carl sagan is absolute bomb.

  • Not sure - but can try to find out :)

  • a fabolous dream

  • I agree, it's a great project!

  • i call Hugo Velosa have 13anos and habit in the island of the wood, madeira, portugal. It would believe - to ask for to aid for mine projecto to you of a solar and aeolian car. My main problem is to find panels the measure for the car, being an car the scale. Debtor for its understanding

  • Good luck with your project!! Most specs for different types of solar cells are online or you can call solar cell manufacturers to ask for help.

  • that's very good

  • thanks fengkeping!! :)

  • Hello, I am Chinese. We had a few days of the Spring Festival is! I wish you and your family a happy holiday!

  • Thanks you too!!

  • I was a member of QSVT back at 2000 and I am proud it. Keep up the good work

  • Really? I was on the team from Sept 2000 until Dec 2003. Have we crossed paths?

  • May be we did. I was a member in the Solar Array Team back at Sept 00 to April 00. If I remembered correctly, the Array team leader back then was Max B. I left the team afterward due to school works and Queen's internship the following year. However, I enjoyed every sec working w/ so many great team members and the technical experience I gained is invaluable.

  • That's awesome. Yes, I know Max well and a lot of the other managers from that year (Matt, Dave T., Dave V., Jeff B., Andrew B., Andrew R.). Glad to hear that you enjoyed the project. What's your name?

  • My name is Jack Chan (Sci'04). I was 03 supposely but delay due to Internship. May I know your name :)

  • Hey sorry for the wait, my name is Cynthia. I was in Mechanical. You?

  • No problem :) I was in Electrical, currently doing my master in electrical again at U of T.

Very nice to meet you. Did not expect to meet some Sci03er when I was randomly browsing youtube video.

If you have a facebook account, please add my contact (Name: Jack Chan; Network: University of Toronto). Keep in touch.

  • Hey, I don't have facebook sorry! It was great to meet you as well! Good luck with your Master's. :)

  • can you please help me with a project .. ?

  • Ok, thx for the answers:)

  • Hi I'm Ronell, the video is good. I have a question? What kind of solar cell do you use?

What kind of motor do you use?Is it AC or DC motor? How much is the HP rating?

If you use AC motor, what kind of inverter do you use?

How much is the over all voltage that the solar panel produce?

What is the maximum speed of the car?

How much do you money you use to create this solar car?

Thank you and I hope you'd answer some of my questions. Good Luck.

  • ronell1234, those are all very interesting questions and you will find that the majority of them are answered on the Queen's solar car website: qsvt(dot)ca under "About Us" and then "Our Vehicles".

    Hope this helps.

  • This was a lovely video:) I was thinking to build one sometime when i have time and money:) How much this costed?

  • villel80, building a solar car is typically a very expensive project. We used high efficiency cells, batteries and very lightweight materials such as carbon fibre, kevlar and fiberglass. To reduce cost, you can build the solar car with off-the-shelf solar cells (lower efficency but much more affordable) and use other materials that might be a little bit heavier but again more affordable.

  • villel80, we also have many generous sponsors and many hard working students that contribute a lot of their time to the team which also helps cut down on the cost.

  • Hey thanks TrekkMonkey, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I loved the solar car project. It gives me a lot of hope!

  • Wow! That was an amazing video. The music combined w/what was going on in the vid...give me goosebumps! Were you driving some of those cars that you helped build? Awesome vid..ty for sharing this w/us!

  • That's beautiful work. It's great seeing the progress were making with vehicles that need no fossil fuels.

  • I agree! Solar cars are so sexy!

  • Thanks Summerride! :)

  • Verrrrrry nice !!

  • I also love this video. Gives you hope. And hey it´s a beautiful car. I wonder, if you could use sun-powered car and plug it to your house to get electricity thru the car? That would be a breakthrough concept :D

  • Hi Nichenm, thank you for your comments. I'm really happy you like the video. Building this car and being on the team was certainly an amazing experience. I'm glad it gives you hope. It certainly did for me too. Great concept too! Hope to see it in the future :)

  • Beautiful

  • Hey thanks Da55a, I'm glad you like the video. Being on the team, and building and racing the solar car was definately one of the best times of my life.

  • yeah. the music's perfect too.
