@MrWaynemichelin you do realize you are comparing a 2 strokes to a 4 strokes right, so the 800 doo Should smoke the yammy 4 strokes ( twice as much power strokes in 1 rpm than a 4 strokes, but guest what, the yammy is only 200 cc larger, put ou the same output, but if you want to comparare apple to apple, try to race a 1200 tripple 4 stroke skidoo ( which is 200 cc larger than the Apex ) again an Apex, you will see where the real engineering is, your 1200 doo would get smoked

@maxence134 They are more cheap, they switch to aluminum cast, which is known to shatter much easier compared to any other sled right now. Isn't the point of getting a sled is knowing that it will be reliable and NOT blow sooner or later? Fixing 2 strokes is a pain in the ass. My 2011 supercharged nytro and 06' 600 stock summit is all I need. Also, I made my nytro 70 lbs lighter, now it only weighs 470 lbs, imo better than the 800 class ski-doo offers.

I just traided my 2007 Apex for a 2011 Apex Se. It is amazing how different it feels. It really is not any faster than my old one but feels like it is smoother and pulls harder in the low to mid range. Still got my old bullet proof 2002 mxz 700 and I still enjoy riding it.

@mjdubor Time will tell, 2 cycle motors seem to need rebuilding more often then a 4 cycle, especially in a snowmobile where the motor changes RPM's and engine loads so often, unlike a marine motor. I am not saying e-tec aren't great motors, but life expectancy wont compare to a 4 cycle.
if you want to go back and forth on the lake all day buy a yamaha, fast in a straight line, heavy and suspension sucks, u wanna have some fun and ride the trails get the 800 etec, i own one of these beasts, thing walked right by a f1000 on the river and will out handle any sled on the market, skidoo all the way, how would the japs know how to build sleds, there isnt ne snow in japan
@munden25 I tested the new etec 800, wasnt impressed at all. Tested an apex 2011 and that had much more power. Not that the etec was slow but it didnt keep up with the apex.
@rumswigger I couldnt agree more :) Or get a sponsordeal with kamasa-tools.. Saw a new test on summit 800 -11, drivebelts worth 750 dollars were blown in ONE days driving.. That just sucks.

@munden25 and how do you figure that etecs 160 hk are more that apex 163? I agree that the etec are better on curvy, bumpy tracks though but in pure power the apex was a bit more powerful. But personally i dont use stock sleds and therefor the apex is the best choise.
@ttraynor1 The 11 apex outruns the doo on lakes. I can agree that the doo are better in curvy bumpy roads. But the doos biggest problem are the poor quality, drivebelteating for example.
@munden25 The Apex is wayyyy torquier. This can make the sled feel much more powerful than the horsepower numbers would suggest. My wife's 4-stroke sled pulls HARD, even though I think it's a tank and is no fun in powder but from 0-100 kph, its faster than my Crossfire 8.
@munden25 If you know anyything about the basics of an engine you would know that horse power isnt the only important factors in an engine, Yamaha 4 stroke engines have alot more torque than most of the other sleds, so the lack of hp is made up by the high torque of the engine... I beat sleds with 170 hp with my rx1 that only has 145hp...
@rx1145 exactly what i think to. hp is important but the way a drive train is set up is way more important in my mind. u could have a 180 horse power sled get its ass kicked by a 150 hp sled if the dt is set up like shit. also other variables such as the paddle size on the track. no one can really say that one sled is faster than the other unless they are set up the exact same.

It is reall fast but the 4-stroke is not just not fast enough. Throw a turbo on that thing and it will be neck and neck with the Z1 turbo..until then the 800 ETEC is the fastest 800 around...and that may change by this winter.Can't wait till winter.
@03kenseth I guess I am getting old. My 2011 Apex SE seems pretty fast. I have a camp in north east Vermont and the Apex with power steering is so comfortable, you can ride it all day!!!
@munden25 Yea I believe it. I still have a mxz 700 and I still enjoy riding it. I have to say I had a 2007 apex and it wore me out when I use to try keeping up with my brother's 2 stroke. I talked my brother into getting a Yamha. He purchased a Nitro, he did not test is first and was not happy how it handed and neither was I. We did some adjustments on the suspention and getting used to it, it is not that bad. I will always have a skidoo for a backup , I do like the 2 stoke playfulnes.
@MrHooch2011 I thought the Power Tek is the only problem motor? My old 2002 700 mxz has 5200 miles on it and runs great. Another guy I know has 11000 miles on a 2002 700 with NO rebuilt. My 2007 apex had 5200 when I traded it. The issues that needed to be addressed if I kept it was. To Replace all the idler wheels, exhaust gastet, battery, slides and replace the speedometer side bearing again, basic maintenance. I really love my new 2011 Apex SE !

@jgkid6 Hey Buddy! Pat Hauck has set up all my Yamaha sleds for the last 12 years, except my 2008 APEX GT I left stock. I also now have a 2011 Ski-doo Backcountry X 800ETEC. The 800ETEC will smoke the 4stroke Yamaha. I can tell you this because I own them both. SKI-DOO has the best stuff out there right now and Polaris isn't far behind. The guy in the video was FULL THROTTLE! Yamaha's needs to lighten things up 100# and they might start competing again in snowcross racing and trail riders.

The aprx ol get it on straight and flat stretch but thats about it, go race on a trail somwhere that has bumps and turns and see who wins. At the end of a long day of riding see who feels not as sore or tired(if the apex isn't a 2011 model/powersteering). when you fill up at the gas pumps, who takes less. Face it the apex doesn't "own" the etec, the correct term would be faster on straight stretchs and weighs a shitload more.

With that said, it all comes down to each persons opinion and what they are after.

I just traided my 2007 Apex for a 2011 Apex Se. It is amazing how different it feels. It really is not any faster than my old one but feels like it is smoother and pulls harder in the low to mid range. Still got my old bullet proof 2002 mxz 700 and I still enjoy riding it.

Isaac Newton and Munden25 finally proved wrong......check out the American Snowmobiler 2011 Shootout...800 etec @ 591lbs = 101mph.....Apex @ 717lbs = 104mph....so if I done my calculations right....the Apex is 126 lbs heavier and 3mph FASTER!!!! And we all thought Newton knew what he was talking about....

@mjdubor Time will tell, 2 cycle motors seem to need rebuilding more often then a 4 cycle, especially in a snowmobile where the motor changes RPM's and engine loads so often, unlike a marine motor. I am not saying e-tec aren't great motors, but life expectancy wont compare to a 4 cycle.

@munden25 I tested the new etec 800, wasnt impressed at all. Tested an apex 2011 and that had much more power. Not that the etec was slow but it didnt keep up with the apex.

@munden25 and how do you figure that etecs 160 hk are more that apex 163? I agree that the etec are better on curvy, bumpy tracks though but in pure power the apex was a bit more powerful. But personally i dont use stock sleds and therefor the apex is the best choise.

@ttraynor1 The 11 apex outruns the doo on lakes. I can agree that the doo are better in curvy bumpy roads. But the doos biggest problem are the poor quality, drivebelteating for example.

@munden25 The Apex is wayyyy torquier. This can make the sled feel much more powerful than the horsepower numbers would suggest. My wife's 4-stroke sled pulls HARD, even though I think it's a tank and is no fun in powder but from 0-100 kph, its faster than my Crossfire 8.

@munden25 If you know anyything about the basics of an engine you would know that horse power isnt the only important factors in an engine, Yamaha 4 stroke engines have alot more torque than most of the other sleds, so the lack of hp is made up by the high torque of the engine... I beat sleds with 170 hp with my rx1 that only has 145hp...

@rx1145 exactly what i think to. hp is important but the way a drive train is set up is way more important in my mind. u could have a 180 horse power sled get its ass kicked by a 150 hp sled if the dt is set up like shit. also other variables such as the paddle size on the track. no one can really say that one sled is faster than the other unless they are set up the exact same.

@MyYamahaWins Don't worry about me bro, i never get too excited when it comes to sleds..i like them all. All i am saying is that without a bottle the Apex cannot win and won't. It is reall fast but the 4-stroke is not just not fast enough. Throw a turbo on that thing and it will be neck and neck with the Z1 turbo..until then the 800 ETEC is the fastest 800 around...and that may change by this winter.Can't wait till winter.

@munden25 Yea I believe it. I still have a mxz 700 and I still enjoy riding it. I have to say I had a 2007 apex and it wore me out when I use to try keeping up with my brother's 2 stroke. I talked my brother into getting a Yamha. He purchased a Nitro, he did not test is first and was not happy how it handed and neither was I. We did some adjustments on the suspention and getting used to it, it is not that bad. I will always have a skidoo for a backup , I do like the 2 stoke playfulnes.

@MrHooch2011 I thought the Power Tek is the only problem motor? My old 2002 700 mxz has 5200 miles on it and runs great. Another guy I know has 11000 miles on a 2002 700 with NO rebuilt. My 2007 apex had 5200 when I traded it. The issues that needed to be addressed if I kept it was. To Replace all the idler wheels, exhaust gastet, battery, slides and replace the speedometer side bearing again, basic maintenance. I really love my new 2011 Apex SE !

The new 800 etec sure is light but has no stability what so ever. And the quality are embarassing poor. It doesnt matter how many hp you have if you dont get them to the snow which ski-doo doesnt.

@jgkid6 Hey Buddy! Pat Hauck has set up all my Yamaha sleds for the last 12 years, except my 2008 APEX GT I left stock. I also now have a 2011 Ski-doo Backcountry X 800ETEC. The 800ETEC will smoke the 4stroke Yamaha. I can tell you this because I own them both. SKI-DOO has the best stuff out there right now and Polaris isn't far behind. The guy in the video was FULL THROTTLE! Yamaha's needs to lighten things up 100# and they might start competing again in snowcross racing and trail riders.

The aprx ol get it on straight and flat stretch but thats about it, go race on a trail somwhere that has bumps and turns and see who wins. At the end of a long day of riding see who feels not as sore or tired(if the apex isn't a 2011 model/powersteering). when you fill up at the gas pumps, who takes less. Face it the apex doesn't "own" the etec, the correct term would be faster on straight stretchs and weighs a shitload more.

@Huskerdoo3 Ah, then I get it, but Yamahas four strokes are still more powerful than Ski Doos engines, Ski doo might have more horsepower, but that does not mean the newtons are bigger. They're still the most powerful ones even without turbo, but then again a Yamaha is just about twice the weight but also twice the durability. With that said, it all comes down to each persons opinion and what they are after.
