You can feel sorry for the addictive aspect of it. Once they got onto drugs and the slippery slope of needing something stronger every few months, there is little choice left for your brain. It wants/needs that super high that nothing else in life can duplicate. So you realize why they no longer shower, eat well, play, work - your brain is rigged and nothing else will satisfy it.

Heavy-duty intervention is needed.
