Timor Leste (East Timor) and Papua New Guniea, geographically there is no hidrance for Timor Leste in joining since I think tehy are already part of the SEA Games (South East Asian Games) so it means fellow South East Asians recognie that they are indeed part of South East Asia h owever the case of Papua New Guinea is different coz they are not really part of the generally accepted South East Asian Region but its up to ASEAN embers if they will include Papua NEw Guinea since

Its also the reason why North Korea can not join not becoz they are "North" and South Korea can not also even if they are "South" coz China, Japan, NoKor, SoKor and Taiwan is in teh so called "East Asia Region" and another reason Taiwan won't be able to join is ost countries adopt a 'Once-China Policy" (even the US) meaning it only recognizes China (mening PROC). There are 2 countries who might be able to join ASEAN in the near future.

lol @ at this convo haha first of all the "+3" are not members of ASEAN but rather they are called dialogue Im not sure but I think if you include the "+3" they call it the EAGA or East Asia Growth Area like ASEAN-EAGA. China, Japan, So. Korea, New Zealand and Australia will never be part of ASEAN coz its a regional organization in teh first place it means u need to be ina certain geographic location to be included like Philippines can not apply for membership in the EU (Eurpean Union).

anybody in favor of ASEAN +6 ???? wtf.. .. india is ok to join, because they have a major influence on south east asian culture.. but new zealand and australia ? i dont think so.. they are not even part of asia.. and their culture is far away from south east asians..

Yea I see your point. North Korea is part of oriental asia and has it's right to join. But with all their nuclear bomb threats, it doesn't seem like it's going to happen soon. :)
