    philmontscoutranch(dot)org/Jobs(dot)aspx

  • god bless staffers class of 1987-88

  • I was on a trek in 88.

    My Ranger was JD Stacy!

  • LOVE IT!!! I miss 'home' so much its crazy. Thanks for posting this - it made me laugh and (almost) made me want to cry. After the pickles, they went to plums, now they're "smurfs".

  • Correction, this year they changed us to chicken pox. Or that's how it would look from above with all the red shirts. Oh how my heart aches for it..

  • Lol... "Hey, Daniel... Philmont sounds pretty cool, but what would it have been like if John Denver worked there?"

Lol, I love your style of humor.

  • Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I can blame Philmont for some of that.

  • How Long Do you stay in base camp? What kind of knives do you carry? I am extremeley excited about going next year. How many Bear attacks

  • 1) You'll spend a night or two in base camp, depending on when your group arrives.

    2) You won't need anything more than a normal pocket knife. It's not a Rambo competition.

    3) You should be able to co-exist with the bears just as you would with all of the other wildlife. Attacks are a VERY RARE thing that would most likely be your fault if it did happen.

The area only has black bears, so you don't need to worry about the brown bear dangers.

    Take LOTS of pictures...

    leave only footprints.

  • Thank you very much. But i Am going to bring a sheath knife for batoning and Chopping. Do you think it is a horrible idea? Thank you very much.

  • It just depends on the overall needs of the rest of your crew.

You can take it with you and your Ranger can consult you on it before you go into the backcountry.

  • Thank you So i should try to minimize the weight i carry the most i can?

  • Without a doubt.

You'll learn more about that during your Ranger training in Base Camp.

  • Thanks a lot man and where do you sleep at base camp

  • You'll be staying in a 2 person, canvas, A-frame tent. Bring lots of money for the snack bar and trading post. Soft serve ice-cream is a way of life in Base Camp.

  • Haha i will have to put that to the test and i will bring much money For the equipment and we will get a locker to put un necesarry items un-needed for the trek. What should i bring toiletry wise?

  • Well, that all depends on how vain you want to be on your trip. (shaving, hair-styling, etc...)

Just your basic toothbrush, campsuds and my compass has a mirror on it, so I'm covered there.

But, definitely NO smelly stuff: deodorant, cologne, etc...

  • You are good on the guitar:)

  • Hehe...

    I've got you fooled!

  • lets pray more each day to our Lord and SAvior! no greater joy than this! amen and praise Jesus!

  • God bless, brother.
