  • What are the ingredients ?? Sorry, I didn't quite understand some of them because of your accent

  • Do you sell this gel

  • @nekka811 no

  • I've seen other recipes like this but they add aloe vera gel to theirs. Any thoughts on this. How long do you keep it on the heat & how long is it good for

  • Thanks to you Revive uk I made my own gel but I made too much gel because I thought that the guar gum didn't work and I added too much guar gum in my preparation. It did work only when I added it in the cold preparation and when I wisked it a long time! Thanks a lot!

Sorry for my english, I'm a French speaker!

  • @cdio78 Hi, am glad to hear it worked for you, enjoy your mixing! :0)

  • Hi I live in London and can't seem to find any place that sells Guar Gum or Xantham gum, do you have any recommendations?

  • @Fhokis am sure its worth a try, but I don't have locs so I don't kno for sure :0)

  • i'm excited to try this, i normally gel out of flax seed and I freeze the excess; can this be frozen and used later?

  • @dccuke yes its a good gel and easy to make, am not sure you can freeze it tho..maybe worth a try? :0)

  • I can't try this because I can't get all of thise ingredients up there. But I can see many people have problems in making this, so I don't think it is fit for usage. It is hard to make it at home. no offense. I just wanted you to know

  • is this gel sticky?

  • @hopezain no its not, its gelly, gives good hold, definition and shine without the crunchy feeling

  • @ReviveUK ok :0)

  • *sigh* I don't know what's up with mine. I get this weird white residue once it dries and I manipulate my hair. The only thing I can think of that would cause this has to be the guar gum. Maybe I got a low quality guar gum??I can't be the water/honey that causing the white residue. Maybe i used too much guar gum? But its still very loose. a LOT of slip and it feels great for days, but there is white residue. I used less than I would have used for regular gel.

  • @mjeol yes hun, it sounds like its the guar gum, maybe its out of date or a dodgy batch? any white flecks normally dissolve with a bit of whisking, keep on trying tho! x

  • Hi, I made two batches and the consistency turned out like applesauce. This recipe is really simple and I have no idea where I went wrong. Do you have any suggestions on why it would turn out this way?

    Batch 1: 50g AVG | 25g Glycerin | 25 Honey | 1 TBSP Jojoba Oil | DB Heat | add Guar Gum and whisk | EOs

Batch 2: 100g Dist Water | 50g Glycern | 50g Honey | 1 TBSP Jojoba OIl | DB Heat add Guar Gum and whisk | EOs

I put in quite a bit of GG to make it thicken but it never gelled.

    Thanks

  • @PeaceIGiveU the only thing I can think is you need more thickener/guar gum...maybe just add a litltle more cold and rewhisk it xx

  • @PeaceIGiveU hmm I jus noticed u said u put quite a lot of GG in, well it can only be the quality of that, as that is what thickens the mix, maybe buy some more and try again?? x

  • @ReviveUK Yea, that's what I was thinking as well...and it's name brand here in the US. I'll try another kind and see how that goes. Thanks so much for responding.

  • @PeaceIGiveU ur welcome and good luck with the next lot, keep on trying, its a FAB gel, only 1 I use now for curl definition, shine and hold without the crunch xx

  • Thx...I'm going to try my first batch soon...also I discovered that cornstarch can be used but guar gum thickens like ten times faster and better. Thanks once again Sis

  • @3000misslady no probs, enjoy! :0)

  • Hey Sis..Can this mix be made using aloe vera gel and minus the floral water and not have to worry about adding a preservative? Also can one substitute the guar gum with cornstarch? Thank you so much for this tutorial...Blessings

  • @3000misslady hi, yes you can to the aloe but just make sure the aloe has preservative in it unless you just want to make a small batch and refridgerate it and as for the corn starch, I really don't know, again maybe just make a small amount to test xx

  • Hi there love your channel. I have a question please. I wanted to get a very good preservative and I knw grapeseed extract is a good one, but I also see that in the UK you have to use Microkill or Suttocide is the something I can use when making my shampoos, butters, spritzers ect... or can I only use these in certain things? BTW im not a chemist so is this something I should even use.

    Thanks

    Rena'

  • @rena13003 Hi Rena, thank u :0) there are a number of preservatives you could use, your best bet is to find some cosmetics ingredients suppliers and see what they have to offer...look for a broad spectrum preservative...the ones you mentioned are all effective in the products you want to make but you only need them where water, aloe juice, floral waters etc are used to prevent the growth of mould/bacteria...for all butters/oils products they are not necessary HTH and enjoy your mixing! :0)

  • BTW, guar gum doesn't need heat in order to thicken. You can literally put a little in the mixture and mix it (or whip it) and it'll thicken on its own. Its pretty good stuff. I think, like cornstarch, if you add it to hot liquid, it'll clump up like in the vid.

  • How long does it last in the fridge? What would be a sell by date? There's another video inspired by yours and the girl uses tea tree oil as a preservative. I wonder how long it lasts without preservatives.

  • @TeaPips I have no idea hun...but IMO you need a preservative with any product containing water...bacteria, fungus, mould will start to grow without you seeing it...Citricidal/Grapefruit Seed Extract is used by some as a natural preservative...again not sure how long it lasts as I don't/can't use it...I use the ones I am allowed to use (EU Regs) for commercial production...its called Microkill or Suttocide at 1%

  • @ReviveUK Do you make your own Chamomile water?

  • @CO0KiEmOnSt3R11 no hun but its easy to do with a teabag and hot water, just brew it and leave it to cool

  • I'm sorry which kind of preservative do you use? And I am so loving your videos..pure love I tellya!

  • Thanks for sharing! I will try it and add a bit of castor oil maybe. x

  • would you do a video how to apply the Gel?

  • Hey quick question... can i add protein in this gel and if i can what type of protein can i use.

    Thank You

  • @Raquel4junior hi, yes that would be fine, only small percentages (the label should say or supplier should be able to tell you) and well, there's all types of protein, silk, oat, wheat, jojoba, keratin etc

  • How much is the guar gum in american money?

  • @cuttinup97 I don't know my friend, I live in the UK...its fairly cheap tho

  • @cuttinup97 gosh you American's are so lazy. You can't google it and work it out? and it's not "American money" it's "Dollars".

  • Not sure what I did incorrectly but this gel left some residue on my 4b/4c. Maybe I used to much honey or guar gum. Any advice?

  • Greetings from the US. Love the video and love the accent! I cannot wait to try this recipe.

  • thanks for sharing love it...

  • @DivaJacobs313 ur welcome :0)

  • You should win the Nobel prize for hair peace. I am now 8 months natural and my curls had decided to vacate. I made this gel this afternoon. It was super easy and now I have my spiral curls back. Thank you so much for the help on my hair journey. Staying Natural!!!!!!!

  • @tYaysyhy aww ur welcome, but I can't take the credit, I found the recipe on the internet somewhere...like u, my curls just loveeeeeee it!

  • Hi!! I am currently living in Tokyo and there aren't any products curly hair. I have been looking for alternatives. Its difficult for me to buy some of the items like Shea and Essential oils without paying ridiculous prices. I would love to make this gel! Can I use agar agar? Its a natural product of Japan. I wouldn't know where to find the Guar gum or Xanthan Gum! I am already out of luck entirely for flax seeds (non-existent in the entire country) :*( Help Me Please!

  • @blackkinu23 you could try and use anything that you would use in cooking, which will thicken up liquids, especially ingredients that make gel like stuff...I am not sure about Agar agar as I have never used it....I think pectin may work for you too as I have heard some ladies using that...good luck!

  • I love the accent! Great recipe. Too bad I'm afraid to try it. I'm not good with things like this. That's why I buy the products already made.

  • @natrlchallenge thank you! and no probs, to each their own :0)

  • Hey lady! How are you? Great video on gel. I am going to try this on my hair. I'm loving my natural texture so far, but these permed ends are getting on my nerves in the worst way.

  • @thatgirrl5 am good hun and you? yes, this is the only gel I use now as it gives the definition, hold and shine without being crunchy or flaky at least on my hair anyway :0) I know, am kinda lucky with the ends as I never relaxed bone straight so they blended in ok...still got about 1/4 relaxed ends left...do you have the nerve to just clip them off?? or maybe best a bit at a time...keep on keepin on

  • do need to refridgerate this gel

  • @sahdae23 I don't but I put a preservative in mine, if you don't use a preservative, make a small amount, keep in the fridge and use within a week

  • Thanks for posting this informative video. Do you heat the ingredients until they are just combined or to a low simmer?

  • Ur welcome, just heat them up until they are warm, pan underneath on simmer, if it's too high, the water will start to evaporate :0)

  • Hello,Ms.ReviveUK.Where do you get those pots with the handle that you put on top of the double boiler?

  • Hi, I got them from the Indian shop, Balti Dishes

  • How does this compare to the flaxseed gel?

  • I'm going to try this, but with aloe very gel. Your hair looks lovely!

  • Could I add Sea Silk or Silk Protein? what percentage?

  • Yep, that would be fine, I would stick to the info on the label or ask your supplier...the one I use is teeny weeny like 0.02% to save a measure I just use a little pinch

  • Isn't honey a preservative?

  • @12quillemall5321 : am not sure...but I don't think it is effective in preventing the growth of bacteria and fungi...maybe google it? :0)

  • Can you use Pure aloe vera gel as a base for this product? Is it ok to heat the aloe vera gel? Thanx!!! I'm very excited to try this recipe btw;)

  • Yes if you wish to and its fine to heat in the double boiler, it would probably dry up heated direct in the pan...I have used it in the past but didn't like it as much as this recipe...but then each person's hair responds to ingredients/products differerently :0)

  • This looks really neat!!

    -Rochelle.

  • Hey Z! I know you're on break right now, not sure if you're looking at your comments, but I can never get my gel to gel up like yours. My first batch came out too thick. My 2nd batch came out too soupy. What heck am I doing wrong? Should I add the guar gum while still on the stove or when it's cooled down? I donno! *sigh*

  • wow thanks its like dream come true

  • this is so awsome.. im a new subbie and have loved your vids.. hair and when you revamped that t-shirt.. you are aware that your voice gets people hooked!!! i just keep watching..watching..watching..

  • hi snackbagger, thanks for the lovely compliments :0)

  • Oooh that looks great, thanks for experimenting on our behalf. I wonder how it would work infusing the water with irish moss? I want to make it tonight but I running low on other products!!

  • Its great K, ur welcome..am happy that it works well on my hair...I found the recipe on the curly hair board and some of the ladies there had experimented using herbal infusions too...the only thing is the Irish Moss is quite sea smelling...so maybe that wouldn't be too nice??? ooh and glad u liked the rhassoul recipe :0)

  • Thanks for the heads up about irish moss, I didn't know that it smelt like that. Maybe thats why ladies use it as a final rinse not a leave in. The smell would remind me of my holiday though lol

    i'm definitely making this tonight.

  • Yes K, its a little sea smelling, but fresh tho :0)

  • what was the name of the frist thickener

  • Guar Gum or Xanthan Gum

  • Yay! Another recipe to try out. Looks awesome :)

  • Thanks MzCJA!

  • homie this is looking great & great recipe
