This scene gets to the heart of the existential struggle to find meaning in a seemingly godless world. What a sensational, challenging, and crushing scene.
And when the Lamb had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour, and the pizza was delivered free of charge for thusly being late.
Exactly. It was a good message, no fantasy business about it, it was just a good life lesson about death. Be aware of it and accept it. God never showed his face or satan and death never said that there was nothing after death, it was relatable and true till the end. I really appreciate this movie for that in a way.
I really like this film because when i first watched it I was expecting this movie to relieve me of fear, that the movie would have a message of what death is all about in the fantasy world of movies, but i think pretty much to the end they kept it authentic and just stuck to the fact that nobody knows. At the end of the game death was unknowing. Because of that it is still a great movie by today's standards. imo.. I was shocked by how good a movie that old is
Been there. But let me point out that at the end with the scene in the castle and the Dance, all characters finally embrace the idea of Death, each one with his/her own way. So, imo the whole movie was not a cry for the ultimate truth or a philosophical quest. It was a path to the awareness of death and its acceptance.
I second this. I felt that Bergman could definitely have made this moment seem more shocking if we waited for the big reveal. Though it would need to be shot in an artful way without making the audience know.
@uruseiranma I think this part is just perfect!!! Like a real pain, like a real confession. Nothing more nothing less. It seems real. This scene almost hurts!!
maybe it s the best speech in the film

More people should think this way. Maybe if we demand more of G-d instead of just praising him, He will show Himself. Maybe we're ready for that.

For me -mention as this scene is fabulous- it will be greater if the face of the death would be revealed at the last minute.
