  • thanks man...

  • Great lesson, awesome playing, nice guitar too! Thx for posting helps me out alot! Ta.

  • The minor example sounds like the sweep picking from "anthem we are the fire - Trivium". I tried to play it its fucking hard to play... really good vid and best lesson i´ve seen ´til now! thx

  • good vid man thanks

  • Hei !

Tell me do you mute your strings when you sweep , like palm mute at most beginning ?

  • WAH ! THX ! this Helping me

  • it's funny to read my comment 1 year ago that asking "can i sweep on this guitar and bla bla bla", and now i can sweep at nylon lol

    stupid old me

  • @HandreyAlex lol i just replied then noticed it was a year ago my bad

  • god sweeping is such a pain in the ass ive been playing 3 years and still cant do em lol

  • Standard tuning.?

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry if someone has asked this question before but, do you mute the strings with your palm as you sweep? That is my only problem with sweeping at the momment, getting just one note to sound instead of two/three sounds. Thanks.

  • @zepp1727 im not very good at all with sweeping but i think i know what your problem is. i had it too and just practiced till i fixed it. i htink your prob. is that your not lifting your fingers off the string quick enough, so when you sweep the next string both sound out. hope this helps: one finger on one string at a time, and in time it should get cleaner and faster.

  • Thank You very much... I am trying to learn sweeping right now and this video is very helpful. Peace...

  • That one arpeggio at 2:44 is the one Im trying to get...It's a bit tougher eh? lol im beginning though

  • actually your video is helpful cause it gives insight in the practice process and that's important as hell. thanks

  • sounds better slow o.o

  • I'm sure by now your chops have gotten much better. Keep practicing, you licks are pretty clean in this vid.

One important suggestion; make sure the guitar is tuned. It'll make those sweeps sound even better. ^^

  • awesome sweeping...work on the vibrato =S.

  • I'm surprised at how much more I learned from this video than from a professional one.

  • LOL

  • i shredd like a muther fuker but when it comes to sweeping man i fukin suk hahahahaha

  • @waitandbleed666555 same here hahaha

  • Im not too good neither in sweep picking. Im trying to learn it but it does take time and takes practice (daily and constantly). I have to train my fingers and right hand to coordinate with each other. And sweep picking is not good if you do not know other techniques such as legato, string skipping, staccato, chromatic scales, pentatonic scales, pull-offs / hammer ons that are not used in a sweep picking motion but more in a shredding type or scale pattern motion.

  • lol same

  • well i can sweep but i wanted to see if you had the talent to teach another and you def did i lov e you tone

  • Good technique but SHIT vibrato dude...

  • Whats wrong with his vibrato? I like the sound, why is it a shit vibrato?

  • narrow and unstable.

  • damn this is an easy lick to practice. practice practice practice. great vid. thanks

  • I find it helpful to keep the pick straight and to not move my wrist...

After practicing a long time u can feel it burn nd u gain speed.

  • What you were playing in the beginning sounds like the beggining to this solo in this song called "Metal Heart." I think Dimmu Borgir covered it.

    Anyway, great vid! Thanks! :D

  • Great! Thx!

  • Li=fag

  • what are the comments for if they arent for expressing opinions?

  • watch and comment on my how to sweep vid!!! i'll even respond to yer comments!

  • What a bunch of idiots, if you guys are going to argue use an insult besides fag. You dumb asses...

  • thank you my friend you r good teacher

  • example 1 = kinda Psalm of lydia sweeps, isn't it?

  • it sounds like a lot of deadened notes to me, example 2 sounds kinda close, I think its just that he uses the same root for major an minor but psalms of Lydia uses G minor then G major =D Loomis FTW

  • yea!

  • Nice of you to share. Good video, well done.

  • pac man sound!

  • on the three string arpeggios it looks like your hammering the way down and not sweeping

  • When your root note is on the B string you have to use your index finger twice rather than barring or using a chord shape. So it looks like you're kinda spidering up the board.

Bstring roots are one of the 3 chord/arpeggio inversions.

    E root, A root, B root

    Look'em up

  • ok i have picking pattern down and finger movement down but i cant sync them together for sum reason .... tips?

  • Slow it down and practice with a metronome.

  • I got it in synch myself.....

Don't have a metronome though.. i just use mah foot... haha....

But uhhm... i'd like to sweep slightly faster... but i seem to have just stopped at one speed.... it's not that fast either...

    But uhhm.... one question...

When you sweep 3 strings... do you hit the g string with an up stroke.. or do you move your pick around it to sweep down again?

Nobody gets in details with the PICKING.... that's why i'm asking. Haha

  • Lol, yeah. I know. Doesn't that piss you off?! Truth is, when it comes to playing guitar at this level, no one can tell you how to do it. They can "tell" you how to do it, but it's something that you have to dick with for a painful amount of time (unless you're lucky) until it finally just "clicks". Like, "Oh! I see what they meant!" kinda thing. Your brain knows what do do, but your fingers just have to get a feeling for it. Repitition is the key.

  • It's actually getting a slight bit faster now.... haha...

Listen to the solo for "Creeping Death" from Metallica.....

Look for the Sweep Arpeggio kirk hammett plays.... that's my target speed atm :D

    Getting close!!!

  • Hi. I know that comment is mega old but if you still cannot sweep at your target speed i certainly have a few tips :) for one do you know what economy picking is? look it up and youll understand how to pick the notes.

Also at first pick every note, then with time hammer on the second lowest note( if possible in the pattern)and always pull off or pulloff/hammer on the highest. It sounds the cleanest and with bad amps without blazing hot lead tones, its the only way to go. :)

  • nice

  • do u mute the strings and i if u do how !!

  • you mute the strings automatically as you sweep; i.e. you don't pull off your finger as you take it off the string, you just take it off, perpendicular to the string, that mutes it.

  • which hand do u mute the strings with right or left because some people say its better with right some people say left

  • wow you should be a teacher.

  • Is it easier to start the downstroke part of the sweep on the G or make that part of the upstroke and start the downstroke on the C?

May seem like a stupid question but my mahor problem with sweeping in continually playing the top or bottom notes twice when theres no hammer-on/pull-off

  • Hey i was wondering how to get it to sound all clean, like do you palm mute just a tiny bit throughout the whole arpeggio or do you palm mute it straight after you hit the string?

  • hahahah put it on clean. :P

That's the best sound to get out of it if you do it fast with distortion when trying to do it fast it sounds sloppy.

  • the way your finger lifts off the string stops the previous notes, to get it to sounds clean you need to practice, and dont listen to the Dragonslayer6001 guy, if you practice enough, sweeps with distortion will sound clean for you too

  • what guitar is that?

  • yeah I am on the sweep picking learning right now. It takes a little bit to get your hand to get the pick right but I have gotten past that. I know people that took them a full year to get the sweeping mastered. But thats why I pratice it every day. Hey also you should make a vid on rolling your finger, I find it difficult.

  • i got a gio ibanez grg170dx guitar and fender 15r frontman amplifier in there. can i do the sweep with this equipment? (i don't have any effects and pedals...)

  • I'm not sure, but if you can it should sound like shit :D

  • oh...

    so,,

what should i do with this equipment?

what techniques can i played with this?

    thx b4...

n sorry for my bad english...

  • YOu can do anything on any guitar. It just takes skill.

  • oh...

    thx

  • i recomend if your a beginner a stratocaster or a les puaul stratocaster have a very bad sustain(i think xD i have a squier) ut have a very long gamma of sounds. and the les paul have a very warm sound and good sustain =P but dont have the same gamma of sound than the strato. for the amp mmm i recomend a fender or gibson 21" i think its very nice mmm and an advice buy the best cable you can coz sometimes if you have a shitty one i cand fuck up your tone cheers

PD:xDD dont get mad with me

  • yeah you can do it, i think What Betrion Was Trying to say was that with that amp its just hard to get a good enough tone to make the sweeping sound proper, no matter how good the technique is

  • @HandreyAlex i have an rg 120, so your guitar is a little more higher end than mine, and i have the same amp. it sounds just fine for practicing, so yours should sound just fine too im guessing and a little side note: its not in the equipment, a good guitarist can make a "shit" guitar sound good. and a bad guitarist can make a great guitar sound horrible.

  • @HandreyAlex you can sweep anything

  • You have very solid apreggio technique, but your vibrato needs a bit more articulation and voicing. Try slowing and widening it a bit. Good work!

  • Thanks man, vibrato and feeling is my main focus for about 6-7 months now. My next video is just about feeling.

  • Yeah, just listen to some classical artists or progressive guitarists, they have some of the best vibrato around.

  • Check out Eric Clapton, best vibrato ever

  • god damn arpeggios are so hard, im having troubles with sweeping down, then going to the up motion again, in that whole cycle..got any tips for that?

  • hey dude how can i clean my arpeggios i always start ina slow tempo but i cannot make a clean sound how can i fix this?

  • try muting strings

  • Man, I wish they had music theory at my school, but they dont. Makes me mad because I need to learn it...

  • True.

  • Music theory is essential to everything about the guitar you need to learn it.

  • Except if you just want to play covers :D

  • well yes and no, you couldm read thousands of books on theory, it doesnt mean that afterwards you will pick up a guitar and suddenly play it like a god, theren aref actors such as becoming familiar with the instrument and getting the coordination right. and while theory is a very valuable tool, look at old blues artists from back in robert johnsons day, they were amazing guitarists, even tho theory was not something they studied very hardcore, ore even at all.

  • I'm pretty self taught so i don't know notes but this will help quite abit. I know tabs but how hard is it to learn notes?

  • In my opinion music theory is much harder than any sweeping

  • i agree!!!!

  • When I say the H note, I was like wtf. But I kept on reading and now I get it. =]

  • your good at sweeping but root note H? theres no fucking H note xD

  • When I was at guitar theory class I had C D E F G A H C nots of C major. That H is the old school name for B. I was taught that B is H flat, so same thing as B=#A. You can see same thing in old music theory books. I always prefer old school musicians, writings, music and techniques.

  • well actually your wrong. There is an H in music.

But to my knowledge its only used in German. and it has the same pitch value as like, F sharp or something.

But conventionally in english... there is no H lol

  • How many music theory books did you learn from?

  • dude are you shitting me there is not such thing as h it only goes to G f sharp is the same as g flat dip shit gosh.

  • DUDE Who the fuck is talking about F sharp and G flat? Its totally different tone. PM me your email and I will scan page in book and email it to you, where states this C major scale: C D E F G A H C. Stop trying to act maestro please.

  • look right, i know for a fact there is an H.

But as i said it isnt used any more... and as for music books did i learn from, AB guide to music theory... one of the best selling music books there are... and thats where it told me. also if you look at old german made musical instruments there are notes labled H

    And yeah, im well aware that C major scale goes C D E F G A B

    Actually.

  • you're right someday on school a teacher told us about that the H on german was B on america hehe =)

  • Im sorry your completely wrong, f sharp is the same as g flat, just like c flat is the same note as B. B sharp is C. There is NO 'h' whatsoever, even if it did exist at sum point, which it didnt, it doesnt now either. if books are telling you that the C major scale is CBDEFGHAC instead of CBDEFGABC then i suggest u return it.

  • Heheh thank you for your suggestion, but i wont return them. Many music schools used that book about 15 years ago, and author is really apreciated classical guitarist, professor Stanko Prek. Maybe you should examine your theory knowledge abit more. Try googling "C D E F G A H C music theory". Here is what I found:

In early music (up through Bach's time), b-natural was indicated by the letter h (as it somewhat resembles the natural sign) while b-flat was represented by a lower case b

  • Actually dude there are some cultures that have an H note. If I remember correctly I think it may be German music. I don't know how the fuck it works but my very first Theory teacher had mentioned it for shits n giggles one day in class to completely try to fuck our minds. Look it up because it does exist! Cheers

  • Yep exactly

  • @nrwsouljah420

yeah you're right it's in germany and its fucking silly

  • @nrwsouljah420 that would make the h note the octave and through all the theory on the bar graphs way off. I think if there ever was, there is no way could work at all in any kind of comprehensive music theory.

  • @nrwsouljah420

German's refer to the B natural as "H", because B flat is used so much more often than B natural. They refer to B flat as B natural.

  • @nrwsouljah420 actually i am german and the H is no big deal!

its just that the germans say your B is a H ... thats all!

    H=B :)

    stay tuned

  • there is a h note... they use it in russia and around europe i think

i think its b or somthing i not to sure but im definate it exists

  • If I recall correctly, H is a note that went out of use a long time ago. H was the pitch B, and B was the pitch Bb. So, for whatever reason, the keyboard had an H between B and C =/

It can be noted that the note H exists, because there is a piece with a recurring melodic idea of spelling 'Bach'. So they would play the notes B A C and H. In modern notes, that would equate to Bb, A, C, and B natural. Unless I am confusing B and H.

  • H is B

  • how long have you been playing?

I have the concept but the sweeps that i know are to hard to learn so do you know any easy beginner one's besides these which BTW helped me alot, just Message me a link or something please if you do know any good ones

  • this is alot more help than some of the pro vids with herman li or syn gates

  • That's cuz they're fags

  • wow, thanks for that tutorial man ive learnt alot

  • What's your tone?

  • you really did help!

    thanks :)

  • u got an ibanez RG series guitar dont u, i got one too but mine's black

  • do you like necrophagist by any chance?

  • they'r fine, but i dont like them very much. I prefer classical music

  • well, i would like to thank you soo much for your help. you improved my playing soo much with the 4 min and 18 seconds of your life. thank you!

  • well thats what he did in higher tone but i did it there

  • nice sweeps- gotta keep watching this some more

and i think you are gonna make some badass lead guitarist in your own band someday

good work also on the key transitions during sweeps.

heres something, try to get tabs to BTBAM's Alaska and play that

  • can you mail me tabs of 2:35?

  • can you mail me tabs of

  • man this december is my 1 year guitar mark, i've taken no lessons and i still need a lot of improvement and i can't even sweep slow and i need to learn it by my birthday in september... i get my new dean ml then and we are going to have guitar duels there....

  • i have a important question on sweeps, when i sweep how do i always mute the string from before using my palm, like more specifically where on the edge of my palm do i mute it with, and how do i hold it while doing this?

  • Try muting strings with side of hand where your pinky is. Simply put your hand on the strings and dont let any of them ring (for beginning), I showed that until 0:35 of video.

  • ibanez for life.

i can sweep but thx for the upload, hope it helps beginners, cheers =]

  • hi, i have a problem and i hope someone can help me with it, it is about sweep picking.. im just a beginner so im starting with 3 string sweeps but everytime i release my finger pressing the note on the G string, the string always rings.. can someone help me about it? can you give me tips on how to improve it? tnx..

  • Practice very slowly and try to mute it with your palm. When downpicking you should slightly touch the strings you picked previously

  • tnx for the immediate reply.. i thought of the second tip you said b4 i read your reply.. i tried it but when i go fast, sometimes it rings again.. its hard for me to mute it with my palm.. can you explain further how will i do it? im sorry for the hassle that im giving u.. tnx you very much..

  • I have been trying to learn sweep picking for months and the only thing i can play is triads. But not so good. Do you have any tips on muting the strings because i have heard that you can mute the strings with your fingers on the left hand or with the right hand like when palm muting??

  • great video man, just what i needed

    5/5 =D

  • are you using a thin pick? i use low tuning and i have trouble on the up picking. btw sweet video, very helpful.

  • I use Jim Dunlop Jazz III pick, it is really perfect.

  • I think I'm pretty fast at sweeping now, but I just can't come up with the finger rolling, you know? any tips on that?

  • Try doing it extremely slowly. At finger rolling, you shouldn't move upper fragment of your finger, it must cover both 4. and 5. string at once. Also try to warm up your finger elbow to prevent injuries on rolling (i had some problems with it)

  • i have the motions for my right hand down

i just cant move my left fingers quick enough

can you suggest any practices to train quick fingers

    that was not an innuendo

  • For left hand fingers speed its best to practice scales (minor, major, harmonic, chromatic etc) also with metronome, and by the way you will learn some of music theory which is great thing.

  • good lesson, a lot cleaner than that "Gary" in the other lesson

  • I record with PODxt thru USB, and this is one of worst sounds I have, but it is very bright and reveals every mistake.

  • Very nice lesson, nice and detailed, great for beginners. Cheers mate.

  • how do you practice sweeps with a metronome

  • You can practice tripplets (3 notes in a beat) or regular (2, 4 or 8 notes per beat).

If you have for example 5 or 7 notes in your arpeggio it is a bit complicated, try to add a new note or tapping..

  • thanks man, when i tried the note at the click ended up being in like 4 different places and it was messing me up

  • great lesson. very helpful!:)

  • you don't have to strum the bottom string three time all you have to do is hammer on

  • You are right. I wrote that in tab, and I dont strum the bottom string on examples.

  • Awsome man.

  • thanks heaps for showing the right hand...that was the only bit that was throwing off...maybe now il be able to play the paradise city intro hah! cheers betrion

  • sweep picking is so hard i can get some of the easy ones but its sloppy

  • It's supposed to be that way. Try practicing very slowly with metronome, and then speed up for about 3-4bpm every 1 minute. You will master it quickly and it won't be sloppy.

  • ouv my gash this is so good!!!

  • This is great video. I've been trying to get up to speed on sweep picking but it's slow going.

You're really good at it. Keep on playing and making vids!

  • ,,.nicE vid dUde,,.

    ,,.h0pe i cAn d0 thAt thing t0o,,.

  • what were you doing with your other fingers? were you picking with them? wow i need to learn how to do that.... give me a few months haha :P

  • No, I pick only with my pick (jim dunlop jazz III). Just play slowly and in few months you will have the speed.

  • cool lesson bro! did u record this using a webcam?

  • yes. an old webcam

  • Yay finally a video not inbred and retarded good

    job

  • great vid ;)

  • great video, and great skills u got!

  • Excellent Stuff. Good work for a first video. Sure many will find this useful. Lets see more

    Rock on

  • Yeahhh!!!!! Very Nice!!!!

  • Jesi showoff xD

Viices ti kad ja za 150-200 godina buden tako svira ... VIDICES TI!!!

    Ugl care gud djab :P

  • Man you're fucking great, video is awesome and very helpful. You have great guitar skills and many young beginners may learn a lot about arpeggios and sweep picking from this video! It's great and I hope you'll keep destroying with this fucking cool stuffs! Metal 4 ever! (Jope samo naprid svaka čast, video ti je zakon ;)...

  • you are my idol! :D manijace
