Oh, isn't that funny. I didn't know the thickness of the aurora was so little. Such a thin shell, so far above the Earth's surface. Well, the atmosphere increases in density exponentially with decreasing altitude, so I guess such a sharp cutoff is not completely unexpected.
i wonder what the grounding of all flights after 9/11 had some relation to this. they did other studies directly after as well, specifically regarding contrail effect and its effect on global warming. oh yeah before i finish ill drop some nasty and rude... nah nevermind i blanked. well, i do believe every single one of u ppl, yes u ppl, can go eat a bag of dicks.
Aside; thank you ISS and all those who keep that program afloat it is our final watchtower. i have watched u cross my skies
Love the time lapse but hate the fact that I may never get to ride a satellite myself. It would be nice if we got our act together as a species and realised that we are in increadible danger as long as we remain totally dependant on this biosphere for our survival. Prefabricated and inflatable technologies could put enormous habitable structures in orbit at a very low cost, building a real space tourist industry, and constructing, in time, an alternative environment to ensure our survival.
@demandspacetourism man i used to draw out designs for inflatable zeppelin like structures used in high atmosphere of various planets that would slowly trickle down land based options while these interplanetary zeppelins (unmanned at first) inflated interally creating agricultural conditions within the sphere harvesting the sun from mars orbit. as time passes and we gear up for the actual man passage, these could be landed.... i drew it all out but hell ppl think moon landing was fake
@Psyckogan Part 1. The government's sponsored organisations approach, to building in space, is so inefficient because they build on the ground, and then export to space. Limitiing the size of the structure, and making it have to withstand G stresses. This has kept the costs so high that business hasn't looked at "space technology" as possible market makers. Prefabricated technologies allowing building "in space" will change all of this. People like us sense the importance of pursuing these
@demandspacetourism Part 2. developments. We are part of an intelligent species' web of unconsciously driven plan to pursue its own evolution. I know this because I am fully aware, I know that my urge to see the space age begin is an "instict", and the most important one at this moment in history. We are all vulnerable to extinction from a meteorite as long as we remain totally dependant upon this bioshpere for our existence as a species. This is what our species economy is for, to guarantee
@demandspacetourism Part3. our ability to survive in an environment. At present our activities are directed by those who have economic power in order only to make them wealthy. Money is a tool to facilitate more intelligent cooperation, but it has such appeal that it blinds those who acquire it to the real purpose of species cooperation. We can use a money economy to build large scale habitable structures in orbital space, solving the problems of today by tackling the problems of tomorrow. Peace
Yeah, I definitely agree with you. We need to explore space, not just to learn more, but also because our own survival as a species depends on it. If humans are going to survive, then we can't be stuck on Earth forever. Someday, Earth WILL get hit by a major asteroid, meteor, etc and humans will be wiped out if we haven't settled on other planets. It won't happen in our lifetime, but it definitely will happen someday.
@ct92404 Thankyou, But it is the application of tecnologies for commercial purposes that has developed our mofern interconnected world. There is always a delay between the emergence of a technology and its being used to create mass markets. Our western economic situation is dire at presen. We could use this technologyto recover our global economic dominance, creating an industry that requires our educated workers and our concentration of technological industry.
BTW...you really need to look up Burt Rutan, if you haven't already. He built a suborbital spaceship, called SpaceshipOne which was the first private manned spacecraft. In 2004, they launched it up to the edge of space at over 328,000 feet. Now he's designing a fleet of spacecraft for Virgin Galactic. The whole plan is that people will be able to buy tickets to fly to space!
@ct92404 Thanks. Will check it out. The purpose of economic activity is to ensure the survival of mankind in the environment it finds itself. Economics is not a separate activity than survival for an intelligent species. We see it as separate, and it is seen to be about money, but money is a "tool" to facilitate cooperation for the purposes of mutual benefit as we struggle to survive as a species which has expanded greatly in numbers. We cant turn our back on the problems of our species.
...and Burt Rutan and Richard Branson have said they're already working on an ORBITAL ship! Imagine that! You'd be able to buy a ticket to fly to orbit! Of course it will be insanely expensive at first and only for rich people...but eventually, the price will come down. Someday, I'm hoping I'll be able to go to space. No joke.
@ct92404 Thats right. But we need to "industrialise" the production and build mass markets otherwise, our western economies can''t recover from the economic crisis. Previously, "recession" could be recovered from because the western powers dominated global economics. But because of the rise of the Eastern economic power, we can't pull a few political strings and bring about recovery. We need large scale investment in a hitherto commercially ignored technology, our economies are collapsing.
This is getting off the topic of the video, but I really think that this is way more than a recession now. I think we're actually in a Depression, and it started in 2007. I'll bet that sometime in the future, they'll say that this was actually a depression and they'll call it the "Great Depression of 2007" or "Crash of 2007" or something like that. Some people are already calling it the "Great Depression 2.0"
@ct92404 Politics and economics are my subjects my friend, and I don't need to wait until some politician tells me an official opinion to know what I see is happening. They don't want to say that the economic situation in the west is unrecoverable because it would cause more panic. I can say it because i'm tellging you the only solution possible. In all previous "depressions" the west has still dominated global economics, now it can't do so, only something new, can bring about recovery.
@demandspacetourism Why do you think the bankers and the corporate CEOs are businly squeezing amazing bonuses out of the organisatons they work for, they suspect what is coming and are ensuring that they and their own are looked after. For the rest of us, economic collapse in the west will mean economic migration to the East, and downward spiralling living standards. But we have an untapped technology that we need to industrialise. This can bring unparralled wealth to the western world.
@demandspacetourism Part 1. On the idea that "we need to explore space" this is a misconception. It makes no more sense to "Explore" space than it does to explore the space in an ocean. Also you can't explore anthing with taxation from a collapsed economy. We need to extend our economy into orbital space, and it is our learning to liv and funtion and evolve science there that will one day fit us to travel further afield. If anyone wants me to email the complete political economic explanation,
@demandspacetourism Part 2. You can leave me an email address on my channel. We are a technologically advanced species but we are still using economic and political strategies that we have evolved since the stone age. The economists who advise our governments are too conditioned to see through the orthodox ideas they have been idoctrinated into in business school. We need a popular movement and we need to start making this into a poitical issue. Peace
@ct92404 You say it won't happen during our lifetime, I say it has to be brought forward to right now, it is the only way I can find to bring about proper ecnomic recovery in the west. We could have had sub-orbital space tourism in the 1970s, but TNCs were making their money riding the wave of western global economic deminance. The only thing lacking is today real large scale demand to stimulate commercial investment, people simply don't believe it can be made to happen. Its just a decision away
The Aurora forms at around 60 miles high which makes the lights visible hundreds of miles away. The cause is electrons hitting air particles, causing them to light up. The color depends on the altitude:
Green - oxygen, up to 150 miles in altitude
Red - oxygen, above 150 miles in altitude
Blue - nitrogen, up to 60 miles in altitude
Purple/violet - nitrogen, above 60 miles in altitude
take a few chem/physics classes and learn before you make an uneducated comment
This is fantastic. Thank you. I wonder what the effect of the radiation (?) has on the crew? Does it affect the ship? What is the extent of the electro-magnetic field? This just opened up a huge amt of questions - wonder where to go to learn more? Thanks again.
Either way u look at it, its God's creation. He set in natural order these things we enjoy in this physical realm. Its a beautiful display of His creation. Bt i wish we can get some aurora over my city lol. It will be awesome. Bt i wanna see a rainbow, instead of green all the time LOL
that is just beautiful! the aurora phenomenon really is a wonderful and awesome thing, I don't know what causes it and how it forms (think its got something to do with magnetic fields at the poles) but it sure is vibrant and lights up the sky at night! wish I could see it from where I live, thanks for this video it really is quite a sight :)
btw the orange you can see on the horizon is from the sodium D transition, Sodium gets into the atmosphere from meteorites! Over 40 tonnes of meteorites enter (and burn up in) the atmosphere every year!
This is NOT JUST the aurora, these are called airglow reactions and occur in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere.
What you're actually seeing is a conversion reaction of atomic oxygen from the O 1S state to the O 1D state which occurs at 558nm creating the dancing green colors.
The red you can also see is from a vibrational transition from OH 2Pi v=8 to OH 2Pi v=3 which occurs at 725nm and creates the faint red color you can see above.
I don't want to have to turn off the comments...for people being nasty & rude to one another..come on..its a Aurora video. If someone thinks its Gods work then so be it...thats there truth..if it's not yours then just ignore it...try to be kind to one another...its just a video..
@TheMimzy011 it is definitly important for those who can grow intellectually to also grow in the ability to screen for provocation. if i were to say, the holocaust is a conspiracy, it would no doubt create a debate. there are a small few that instead of participating they may watch for pattern recognition to gain a new perspective of truth, and not lose the old but to find peace. the comments would be far better if we could see how long a user watched a video...
