Whenever I'm looking for French opera, Alfredo Kraus is the go-to voice! This is just so incredible, after all these years it can still make me cry at its sheer beauty.
@jlcel0818ya Maestro looks like Alberto Erede, but im not 100% sure. There are youtube vids of Cesare Siepi, Carlo Bergonzi and Piero Cappuccilli from this same concert. Thus i got no idea which was next piece.
AD-MIRABLE! I say! How I loved this! I loved everything in this video: the renditions of Alfred and MacDaniel, so harmonious, their expressions whilst they were making them( just remarquable!), all the gestures executed by the conductor( just delicious!) ! Many thanks Onegin65 and good week!:)
I like the Kraus and MacDaniel interpretation, but also the Bjorling and Merrill. The two performances show a different appreciation of the tragedy in the play.
The great part of this duet is that both singers are well sincronized. Liten to the part around 6:00. Voice / speed control are perfect. There are many duets singing this song in Youtube, but some of them are not well controlled as duet. Tenor has unique voice color and both singers' French diction may be unique, too:however, I highly appreciate this duet. It teached us how duet should be.

To be honest, I don't agree with the praise. I think Kraus, although he sings beautifully, looks totally confused and checked out, while McDaniel definitely looks engaged, but suffers from some distracting tonal instability and even sagging intonation problems once they start singing together a few dozen bars into the duet...
lol I am with on that one Contestar, but I kinda understand why matamod would think that. Kraus often (if not always) made that particular face expression (the position of eyebrows and the movement of the eyes specifically) while singing, thus he to some he could appear to look kinda tense, lost or worried. But that's as far as it goes; that was just part of singing performances, never impeding that he could sing perfectly, literally, as he did here.
There are several other postings of this Kraus/McDaniel version, but this has the longest lead-in - nice if you want to hear the 'big tune' in its proper context. Bob

Dinanzi a tanto bene pare inverosimile che ci siano due persone a cui non piaccia!

So many questions I have about this video.
1) Who was the conductor, which orchestra was it
2) What was going to be the next piece?

dear matamod, I don't know what a confused look is like to you, but you must be alone with this thought.
A dream of phrasing and the pure joy of singing high-flying lines...
Amazing and utterly beautiful.
