  • @benroo89 It seems that your criteria are, "A music-composing female that has been popularly recognized as a genius comparable to W. A. Mozart, J. S. Bach, etc." This is a rather safe position for you, because no one meeting these specifications likely exists, so what remains is for us to wallow in the murky depths of conjecture. I might add that there are probably no legendary musical geniuses with the first name Jeff. But eventually, I'm sure a Jeff will come along and knock our socks off.

  • @benroo89 Apparently you have not heard of Fanny Mendelssohn, Felix's sister. She was a formidable composer, and several of her works were published under her brother's name. But her talent was not nurtured or supported as it was for Felix, as an 1820 letter from her father to her makes clear: "Music will perhaps become his [Felix's] profession, while for you it can and must be only an ornament."

  • @SamcasticAtGmail She may have been a good composer. However, I strongly doubt that she was a genius. Remember, by genius I mean comparable to Mozart, Einstein etc.

  • @TheBritters27 Women always come back with that one. However, if you study music you will realize that what I'm saying is true. There have been many female composers, some as far back as the 11th century. The reason why their music is seldom played is not their gender. I'm not even saying that it's bad music, it's just not comparable to that of Beethoven etc.

  • Wolfgang's talent wasn't just inborn, it was also hard work and bitsy bit of luck. Being a geniuis doesn't mean you're going to pass it on. His sons don't seeem to have been so genial. As for Nannerl, perhaps she wasn't that talented. A good pianist and that's that. Even if she was a good composer, well even now we tend to hail the creative genius as a masculine item. How many of the semidivine monsters of rock and roll are women?

  • I have read that it's likely Nannerl was as talented or more talented than Wolfgang. She showed herself to be very skilled as they performed duets, as children. Alas, Nannerl was a GIRL and she was "married off" and her husband didn't support her music. It must have been awful for her. Had she been treated better, things could have been so different. I blame Mozart's father. He seems to have been pretty cruel and money-hungry. Maybe he had to be...

  • You mean besides Lita Ford, Pat Benatar, Janis Joplin, Ann Wilson, Joan Jett.....

  • @PabloPena108 Yeah but they're so second rate compared to men. None of them would qualify for a top five or even a top ten (Janis perhaps?)

  • @benroo89 how about Ruth Crawford Seeger?? Or Gloria Coates??

  • @EMPERORMIKI There are some exceptions, actually, Joni Mitchell. Her music is great, but she can hardly be compared to Mozart.

  • @EMPERORMIKI I've never heard of either of them. Actually there are some exceptions, Joni Mitchell, for one. However, she is not a genius.

  • How can you generlize like that? Thats total bull

  • a duelling piano number that Wolfgang and his big sister Nannerl did just for fun till their enterprising Father saw the entertainment value for display in the aristocracy circles of the day all over Europe... what ever happened to Nannerl's line of passed-on genetic talent ??

  • That's a question must of we women ask to point at the male hegemony in many of the artistic fields. Other great woman and musician may be Alma Mahler. Where are their musical creations?

  • thanks! i'll play it soon))

  • ya'll make this sound so easy! I played this sophomore year in high school and never practiced so hard in my life (which isn't saying much, but I really practiced it for probably an hour every day....) bravo :-)

  • a little one!

  • mistake at 3:28!

  • a little one!

  • @controlspecimen There is no need to point out people's mistakes. We're not watching Mozart play the piano so don't expect it to be perfect. If it's played with the right mood and interpretation; just shut up and listen.

  • I agree, we need to enjoy
