When the Rapture comes there will be a 7 year Tribulation period, followed by Jesus coming back with all of his angels to defeat the devil and cleanse the earth from his work for a 1000 years. the world ending in 2000 was from science cause they didnt think the computers would be able to switch to year 2000 after 1999 but will revert back to 1900 and the dates would be wrong. the Mayans ended their calander in 12-21-12 at 12:12 because thats when our sun would be reborn in the dark womb of our galaxy as it passes through a dark spot in apperance. Hard to explain so I hope that makes sense.

The central point of our galaxy is a black hole basically there is a space that is dark void of all stars. The sun will rise in this dark spot being reborn at the end of this current calander and the begining of the next cycle. That is where they refered to it as the sun being reborn from the dark womb of the universe.

Didnt say a new star would be born. I am saying from earth`s view point the sun would appear to be "born" from this dark spot in space. Its an optical illusion from the view point of earth.

Not that I know of. I havent seen any evidence that they thought that. I do how ever know that I have seen rumors that at the end of this cycle they belived that on 12-21-2012 at 12:12 the restart of the long count calander would restart. They belived that it would be an enlightenment period is the rumor I have been seeing. I would have to look more deeply into it because I have mostly been looking at the Egypt/Babylon/Sumerian/Greek mythology connections.
