Hey kiddo- really nice baritone! Country soul in there too...dig it bro! I just sang along the 3rd and 5th's above your lead...rang like butter. :o) Dig. You ever in L.A.? If so, message me and I think that the two of us could rock some foundations around here... keep it up :)
James, that was so beautiful and amazing. It almost made me cry. I love Jackson Browne but I honestly think that your version is better. Please continue to sing. I am going to your website and I'm going to buy your CD. I play guitar and I'm pretty good but you made me realize somethng about playing that I need to do. I need to simplify melodies and emphasize my voice. You play guitar superbly - I'm just saying I paid close attention to your phrasing of the melody and your voice. Wonderful.
you show musical talent, voice, and soul in this vid. You could claim a large audience, I think. You need to make some new songs, of your own. You appear to have what Jackson had in his early days. You can sing and play well, dude. Bring your spirit into your own songs, you could be the nest JB. I wish you the best, I think you might have the makings of greatness in you... Namaste
I've been a(serious) Jackson Browne fan for nearly 40 years, and NOBODY has ever done his music justice... before you! I would TOTALLY buy a cd of you covering his music (as long as you keep it pure like this video.) You wouldn't need a full band. Keep it real!
jackson browne is my heart, but i must say u sing this better than he does. you go boy!!!!!!!!!! this is the first time i've ever seen or heard of u. you're handsome and have an awesome voice...good luck to u!!!!!!!!! =]
This is lovely...I'm a guitar player and I've spent many years honing my own finger style inspired by players like Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, John Denver and others...and it's a great job...but the vocals....the vocals are really awesome. Beautiful.
Great version - interesting how real talent isn't afraid to interpret, in effect to radically alter a great song, as in this example.
I have played and sang this song for more years than I care to remember yet I will never be able to perform it even 1% as well as James (well, maybe the finger work is just a bit slicker ;-) )
This guy is just TOO good for modern radio. Honestly -- he would make everyone else sound like Mickey (or even Minnie...) Mouse. Wouldn't be good for status quo business....that's a real shame 'cause Dupre is fabulous!
there was so much damage you could have done to this awesome song, but instead - you absolutely did it justice and then some. beautiful rendition. thank you!
your voice took me quite literally by surprise. after hearing you talk before the song started i turned to my lunch prepared for, i thought, whatever you might be able to throw at me, and had to lunge for my food when the unexpected quality of your voice caused me to drop it
James Dupre, roll on brother, that was intense. Best cover for a Jackson Browne song that i've ever heard. Love to hear or read someday what The Man ((( Jackson Browne ))) thought of your performance with These Days.
some presentations on youtube deserve more than the click of a like it button, and saved to a playlist..."these days" is played in million's of people's heads every day...i'll now hear your voice as well...you're as good as anybody young man. continue to play this to your public, forever...down the road it'll be a terrific encore piece when your fans want one more, and you have only one more to give... your set up works. thanks, good luck.
Take it from a 61 year old who loves music of this sort. Your cover is excellant. Good work young man. Good luck with your music. Keep singing in this vein. I can see you put your haert and soul into your songs. Jackson Browne's feelings come through. Thanks.
meine Fresse, das ist jetzt schon die vierte Coverversion welche ich mir heute mittag von dem Song auf Youtube angehört habe. Bis jetzt die beste, könnte aber auch etwas besser gemacht sein. Irgendwie zu lahmarschig.
Been following you on YouTube for a couple years now. Probably watched all your video's 2 or 3 times and this one stands out. Well done James!!! Must say, I'm getting impatient that your not getting some major radio play. Hang in there. You have a million dollar voice.
you could give Jackson a run for his money and that is saying something as I truly LOVE him. I am subscribed now! check out my stuff if you have a chance.
I heard a cover of this song on a television show last night that I thought sounded somewhat like this one. I don't know if there are others, but the only studio version by Jackson Browne I have heard of this song is the version on For Everyman, which I don't particularly care for. I don't care for the Nico version either. This I think is the best rendition I have heard and would like to hear James Dupre produce a finished studio recording of it.
Hey James, I rarely leave a comment, but your voice and style left me with no option. This was one of the songs on which Tom Rush (1970) and Ian Matthews (1972) established the sound of laid-back singer-songwriter folk/country/soft rock. As upcoming songwriters in the late 1960s, Browne and James Taylor were both influenced by Rush's treatment of their songs.
Somehow, you have managed to join a league of the most deserving of legends on a song you heard 2 days before recording with one guitar!
I love this song it's one of the greatest of all time and there are some really good covers of it. Check out a guy named ramrawww's cover of this song if you haven't already.
Holy crap....I never expected your voice to sound like it did! I LOVED this cover! I see a CMA award in your future....your voice has that country accent to it.....a beautiful voice and you put so much emotion in this song. Blew me away dude!
WOW... so you look so young and you have such a powerful amazing voice, i loved this , you are so talented!!!! its insane, i just showed this to my whole family, were all blown away. thank you for sharing your beautiful voice.
That was awesome! I've been a Jackson Browne fan for 30 years, so I'd consider myself critical. I REALLY enjoyed your version of the song. Well done, James.
Jackson Browne's "version" of this song changed over the years. Nico was early on. JB wrote it at age 16 and the lyrics and composition changed a lot before he actually recorded it. This guy does a damn good job, keeping with the style of JB. I am impressed.
nico changed the song, changed the lyrics, made it her own. yes, jackson browne wrote this when he was 16 which is incredible and he is a phenomenal poet and songwriter, but if you look up the two versions they are very different.
Stop with the Nico stuff - she covered Jackson's song. He was more mature at 16 than many of us will ever be and a songwriter that is better than many of our most popular artists are after years. Nice job on the cover James.
it is great song, Jackson wrote it at 16. For someone to have that much insight at 16. Greeg Allman covered this too. I live the line, "Don't confront me on my failures, I have not forgotten them." Great job coving this. Keep up the good work, young man.
Great job. I went through all these comments and a long discussion of different versions. No one mentions the version Tyler Ramsey did on his great album (Ramsey is now playing with Band of Horses).
Not to say that Ramseys version is better, because it is not, but for people who like this, I will strongly recommend to find his album. He is an excellent picking style guitar player.
I came across you vid by accident. I have to say.. i love the way you sing. The emotion really resinates through your voice,. I am such a fan. Oh i happened on your videos yestarday. May 16 2010. Great job
as someone else wrote before, i also thought you were lip synching at first. but, wow!! what a voice. i really hope your making a career with that voice. real nice!!
please explain how "it's a little slow" is constructive criticism, it's not, it's just criticism.
You're hearing his interpretation of the song, and you're injecting your preference for hearing covers that try to exactly mimic the original - try to think outside the box.
Best song I've heard you do so far man. Great job on the guitar, very smooth vocals. Perfect song for you. We need singer/songwriters like Jackson Browne again.
you do this song justice. Its a hard song for sure. You do it as good as jackson!!! Covers usually are nowhere near as good as the original, but thats not true in your case. Im gonna be sure to buy ur album no buts!
I just saw a clip of you on Ellen in passing today. You were singing on of my favorite LeRoux songs and thought I'd check you out, I AM BLOWN AWAY!!! I will be listening to all of your music right now.
Dang, what an expressive vocal performance. It's the kind of voice that drives some folks crazy with desire, while it simultaneously touches the soul. I especially enjoy how, through his choice of tempo, he gives his voice space to be expressive and flexible.
Whoa!
Known this song almost forty years. This is so good it's a little unsettling. Thank you.

Dang, what an expressive vocal performance. It's the kind of voice that drives some folks crazy with desire, while it simultaneously touches the soul. I especially enjoy how, through his choice of tempo, he gives his voice space to be expressive and flexible.
