Empires have always been limited only by technology. Britain rules the seas for a time before the USA had to tool up for WWII and then Britian was soon dependent on the USA.

Exactly. Cyrus might have been a tolerant ruler, but that was because he wasn't stupid and knew he had to be so people didn't rebel against him. So the Ancient Persians were successful because they allowed freedom of religion and PROTECTED THE JEWS. The modern day Persians do not allow freedom of religion and want to wipe Israel off the map. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, etc all prophesied these developments in the Ancient World, as well as the coming of the Messiah and it all came to pass. I think it's pretty clear where we stand today.
