  • Thank you...I've been looking for basically exactly what you just did for months...since my SOGfari sheared in half on a downswing...

  • @WarStarter23 - glad it helped. Thanks for watching.

  • Fiskars x3 is the World best!!

  • @Deutschlanghaar1956 - It's good but not as good as my Wetterlings.

  • does anyone know if the khukuri house website is legit and sells good knives. I have been looking at khukuris for a long while now and have decided to buy. I'm looking for a functional one that has the traditional shape and is anywhere from 10 inches to 18 inches in blade length. If khukuri house is not good, any suggestions? please reply soon

  • @philly624 - I've only heard good things about them.

  • @BSRadar100 thanks a lot

  • @philly624 - No problem. I think they import them directly from Nepal. So they are the real deal. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @BSRadar100 yeah that explains why shipping is almost 35 bucks for one knife, but it is insured express shipping from Nepal, after all.

  • @BSRadar100 do you know if Illinois has a law against this knife or is it a blade length law? i dont want to end up buying it and then it turns out its illegal

  • @philly624 ka bar kukri has realy good reviews and is $40 free shipping at amazon fyi

  • I do like the spax...

What would you prefer CS kukri or Ontario SPAX for BOB bag, I live in suburban, spax might come in handy maybe? prying and that notch but kukri is a chopper...

  • @FirstPistolSammy For a BOB - I would prefer the Spax and the Ontario Kukri not the CS Kukri. That combination would give you alot of capabilities. If I could only choose one item it would be the Condor TRT. It does a nice range of things. But ideally I would bring the Spax and Ontario Kukri. Infact, that is what I have loaded in my get home bag right now.

  • @BSRadar100

    hmm nice. thanks :)

lol cs kuk ain't much of a pry huh?

  • @FirstPistolSammy - The Spax is an excellent choice for an entry tool. Could also double as a weapon with a limited amount of reach. Adding a CS Kukri or the Ontario Kukri double downs your range of options and capabilities. Now like I said if I could only choose one it would be the Condor TRT. The TRT isn't as good as the Spax for an entry tool but it has a longer reach so it's a better defensive tool and an entry tool. It's always a compromise when you limit yourself.

  • @BSRadar100

honestly not a fan of a kukri, right now I'm thinking a TFW war golok, looks like a good chopper, came a cross it seeing a pic of a guy shooting 45 a weird machete banshee from a review. but I do like tomahawks....

    Nothing is set in stone.

  • I want something super light yet able to do work and not break in 10 swings.

CS kukri is like 1 lb

hmm wow, I wanted to stay away from cold steel. (mall ninja thing it got going on).

its 1055 steel, so i don't think it can last super long...then again nothing last forever except diamonds and we can't make blades out of them.

  • It's been almost 2 months since you posted this. Thinking back: What would your one choice be? If you could take only one tool. Still the CS? I have a problem with durability on that one.

I guess I would go for your RD6. But since I never had such a thick blade I really can't say....

  • @SpartanJohns - If I could only have one knife it would be the RD6 because it is so versatile. For a large blade I would want the Ontario SP8

  • @BSRadar100

yeah I'm going to do that for my kit

    spax and machete.

Trying to figure a lighter option that can do same task and thought minimize to 1 thing but this is not an absolute world and theirs no such thing a "jack of all trade AND master in all" blade/tool.

    thanks

  • @SpartanJohns - Still thinking about this question in terms of a large blade - I guess it would depend on the use. For SHTF scenario in an urban setting I would want to have the Condor TRT (if I could only have one large blade) and my RD6. As I stated above - the TRT is very versatile. In a wilderness setting definitely would want the Wetterlings axe and my RD6. Second choice would be the Condor Thai Epen or Ontario Kukri and the RD6. I love both of those blades equally as much.

  • @BSRadar100 After owning the CS Kukri Machete,I must say that it is an awesome blade.Like with the Bushman I like it because I don't see it breaking on me.Of course it is a drag, since you have to chew your way to get to the good edge holding ability. But with a cheap diamond stone I guess you could keep it sharp enough for chopping.I really like it also because of the price. If you have a belt grinder you can really put a good grind on it so that it chops well as well as a finer grind

  • Dude cutting wood with a machete is a science and technique..I lived on an island and been chopping wood all my life..even use t chopped hard wood tree's 15/ 20 inch round all philipine bolo Iloilo style..

  • You said you had a different profile put on the Cold Steel Kukri. Was it the curvature or the primary angle that you had changed?

  • @Reallybigmonkey1 - From the factory the edge is horrible. I sent it to Justin Gingrich of Ranger knives and had him put a convexed edge on it. Night and day difference now. I also had him remove the saber grind on the Ontario SP8 and make it a full flat grind with a convexed edge. Again - night and day difference.

  • Is that the regular or magnum model kukri. I have the real CS Gurka $200 kukri and the Kukri Magnum Machete. You should try the Kukri Magnum Machete. It's amazing once you sharpen it with a file.

  • @andrewsheldonreeves - It's the regular. I've thought about getting the magnum to try out but the regular model is more convenient to carry. The regular Kukri machete needs to have the edge worked on too. I sent mine in to Justin Gingrich of Ranger Knives and had him put a convex edge on it. Night and day difference now. Thanks for the comment.

  • the real cold steel kukri works as good as a camp ax!

  • @andrewsheldonreeves - Agreed. It is very similar to the Ontario Kukri. However, an axe is always going to have the advantage since all the weight and force is concentrated at the business end. For heavy chopping my choice is always going to be an axe or better yet a good saw. Thanks for watching.

  • WOW .. That Cold Steel Kukri is a nice chopper!

I wonder how my Ka-Bar Kukri would do?

That Fiskars is a great choice for the money!

  • @ebomey From the research I've done the Kbar Kukri and Kbar Cutless are both really good choppers - make good zombie blades too - lol. Inmho - a recurved blade has better sectional density therefore making it a better chopper. That is why so many people love the Kukri. As far as the Fiskars - yeah I was impressed. I thought the handle would break on it but I was completely wrong. Fiskars makes all the hatchets for Gerber but w/ a black and gray finish. The Gerber version is around $34 .

  • Great test. I like to see gear put through its paces. I was surprised by the results myself. I have the cold steel kukri but haven't really used it much. I carry a large blade and usually the ontario 18" machete. Mainly because I will do things with the machete that I wouldn't do with my large blade. They both serve there purposes. I have a small camp ax but I don't use it much. I have more control with a large knife. the weight isn't an issue. Its more of a comfort thing for me.

  • @Glockwork9 A machete is a very handy piece of gear. If I'm on a trip I will bring both and maybe a small hatchet. However, I prefer to have a large blade at least .25" thick so I can split wood. Thanks for watching!!!

  • @BSRadar100 I have my esee junglas in my pack no matter what I'm out doing. Its great for splitting and chopping where a machete just dose not cut it. So I carry both depending on the trip. I need more time behind an ax. I just get a wherry feeling when I use one deep in the bush.

  • @Glockwork9 - I hear ya - an axe will create a seriously deep wound channel. Check out vid #5 - I talk about that. As for the Esee Junglas - it seems like a great blade. I have the Esee RC4 and the Izula 2 - love Esee blades. If I didn't already have so many choppers I might pick one of those up. Lastly you're right - more control with a large blade. Thanks for watching!!!

  • nice work I like it
