I far prefer this version to the Yes version. The Buggles are such an underrated new-wave band. Unbelievable talent so much more than Video Killed The Radio Star.
@0Skyzer0 2 separate things, this song was written as a Buggles song, Horn and Downes brought it with them and they worked it up into the Yes version, after leaving they decided to rework it for their Buggles album as well. Their leaving had a lot to do with Horn's capability. he had never done the kind fo tour that Yes was used to, between that and trying to match Jon's range on older songs just wore his voice out. that's my understanding anyways. Which version is better is personal taste.
This is the story: The Buggles were already working on their second album when they were asked to join Yes. They'd started "I Am a Camera","Fly From Here" and another, IIRC. Once Yes broke up, Geoff Downes went to form Asia, and Trevor Horn finished up the second Buggles album, picking up essentially where they'd left off.
THE BUGGLES, THOMAS DOLBY and SOFT CELL were great experimental synth-pop artists. This is a great song. I think Yes version is better, but anyway both are fantastic. One thing I like about synth pop (or thechno-pop) is the eerie sound of the keyboards.
"Fly From Here" is NOT on the original release of "Adventures In Modern Recording" - but may be found on the Salvo 2010 reissue.
Yes have re-recorded the track in 2011, and have actually released it as a "single" - although it's probably just a digital download :( rather than a cd single/vinyl single....
this music is originally made for drama... but horn recorded some of the songs he played with yes in the second buggles album, including "fly from here"
@thebellyofthebeast23 What's the story? How did Yes get ass raped? (I thought this was a yes song, but I guess Yes & Trevor just reworked it a little in the Yes version)
yeh. i thought it was a Yes song, too. but why worry about it. belly's getting too parochial. Yes had lost Rick and Jon, and it turned out that Buggles were working out of the same office. and Chris figured that they'd be perfect for Yes because they had songs and could front Yes well enough for what was happening with Yes' music at the time.
omg lol i wish he was that small XD
