This is the only video of Derek Roddy, that I have liked. I have always hated the sound of death metal and blast beats, but I suppose this song has showed a side of death metal that I actually like.

if your in to metal, you'll learn to like blast beats. i used to not like them at all. but now i do like them a bit, its a nice touch here and there. I still hate blast beats from start to finish of a song. it's so boring and just isn't how i view drumming.

The first time I heard death metal (8/9 years ago) I despised the blast beat. It just didn't make sense to me. Now death metal is by and far my favorite music. It definitely takes some time to learn to process the super fast parts of songs.

Derek > Hoglan, Hellhammer, Inferno, Trym, Proscriptor or any other godly metal drummer. I've come to terms with that. He needs to play in bands outside of metal, or play in subgenres that don't limit his playing. The things he can do are beyond what he does in Hate Eternal and that's saying something.

actually, it's an 8 inch tom - I'm not exactly sure why he does that, but I guess it's cause that puts his 12 inch closer to the midle, and lets him move his floor toms in a bit. Marco Minnemann does that too.
