I was not born when this movie was released in 82. I was born in 84 and I remember seeing on video at like 3 or 4. But I was lucky enought to get to experience it in the theatre when it was released in 2002 for the 20th Anniversary. I loved it even more after seeing it in the Theatre and on the big screen. This is my all time favorite movie. Nothing will ever beat it. E.T. will always have a special place in my heart.
et in general is a wellmade film but compared to losing an immediate relative the ending is superficial unless you put the one you lost through death in ets place than the ending takes on more of a meaning in general. i can tear up at the end but i look at it as my personnel goodby to my father untill we meet again in eternity. the life after this one.
Elliot becomes a telecom satellite expert and works for AT n T. One day the "key chain" guy pays him a visit and tells him the gov needs his help again because ET is back, but not exactly in the same manner they remember him. He then proceeds to show him photos and video of various cattle mutilations. The key chain dude turns to Elliot and says, "they´re targeting humans now..." .
He didn't wanted to denigrate the memory of that one time event but he just did with his special edition. Like George Lukas with his Star Wars special edition.
Thanks for posting this. Not sure where it comes from but I was not aware it existed. I love this movie and the good intentions behind it. It's the ultimate movie for children.
Thank goodness Spielberg didn't make a sequel, particularly as this was the beginning of the time when anything that became a hit cinematically was guaranteed a part 2.
E.T. needs a sequel as much as Finding Nemo did...and by that I mean, it was fine as a perfectly-condensed story that stood on its own.
The experience the kids had in meeting E.T. and the few days he was there on Earth can never be replicated. If they met E.T. again, or if some other kids met him, it would just not be the same.
Of course, the ride is the closest to a sequel I think Spielberg was willing to get.
LOVE IT, and love you for uploading all the 10 parts of this, GOSH I LOVE HENRY, and E.T this is the best movie of all, and steven's master piece, of course my fav movie, and yes, they would never get to do a sequel as good as the original, i think everyone knows that, even steven spielberg, it's better to leave things like that, with the memory of such a good film this was, and still is nowadays a clasic.
@TheTerrestrialMedia you're right. nobody can make a sequel or remake of this classic story. my only problem is the digital enhancement 2002 cgi version. that one is crap. i saw the original movie as a kid and this cgi version is not how i remember ET which is why i don't watch the 2002 version dvd. i own the 2 disc limited collector's edition and the ultimate gift set and i always watch disc 2 which is the original theatrical release. but anyway ET is just the best.

No remake, no prequel, no sequel required. Don't mess with perfection. The kindest, sweetest and most lovable movie of all time.

Here´s my ET sequel idea:
Elliot becomes a telecom satellite expert and works for AT n T. One day the "key chain" guy pays him a visit and tells him the gov needs his help again because ET is back, but not exactly in the same manner they remember him. He then proceeds to show him photos and video of various cattle mutilations. The key chain dude turns to Elliot and says, "they´re targeting humans now..." .

didnt like the cgi ET.
TheGaz76 10 months ago
@TheGaz76 it was the 80's, what did you expect todays cgi, it was good enough for its time
lovelydiva06 8 months ago
@lovelydiva06 I think he meant the 2002 Special Edition E.T., with previously deleted scenes put back in, with a CG E.T.
I MUCH prefer the original theatrical version. This is what I grew up with since I was younger than Elliot's edge, back in the '80s.

However, it will be so sweet to see ET revisit the grown-up Henry and Drew. Come on Steven!

@ouksixela Come on. You and I both know that it wouldn't be the same. It's a child's movie, not an adult's movie.

I don't think they should make a sequel to E.T.. I mean look at Hayao Miyazaki's works-he never makes sequels to hi movies and he is very successful

Amazing insight. Although despite his rejection of a sequel, what do you call the new version with all the cgi crap?
Didn't he learn anything from the creation of Jah Jah Binx?
