  • thank god your in my 2nd favorite band now new record in november fuk ya

  • @TheBagmen123 please don't say me your favorite band is metallica

  • Chris should seriously cover the entire Jason Becker's Perpetual Burn CD

  • i dont like this solo, it SUCKS imho, but im not a kirk hammet fan or what the fuck i think that Chris is one of the best guitarists but this solo is too fast and doesnt sounds good

  • @MetaIIica93

    yeah, it sounds too disorganized.

  • @MetaIIica93 Listen to the actual song, it fits in really well.

  • @MetaIIica93 And I would bet a substancial amount of money you did not bother to listen to the solo in the context of the song and simply judged it based on this video? Listen to the song 'scarlet letter' by jag panzer then try and tell me this solo sucks...on its own like this sure it sounds flat, as do most solos but the way its arranged outlines the chord progression beautifully and sounds really epic with the backing, listen to the actual song first rather than being a dumbass...

  • the title of the video got messed up. its suppose to say "first piece broderick played while in the womb"

  • @shlongy14

i highly approve of this comment

  • Shit, thats my guitar! Wish i could do things like that with mine *jealous*

  • :20 is so easy to play.

  • Reading these comments brings me back to the 8th grade when I was learning to play guitar. So many arguments over who is the best guitar player on the planet with my Metallica cover band....

Anyways, Chris Broderick is probably the best guitarist I've seen. Who gives a shit if he IS the best, it can never be proven. I just like to watch good guitarists and watching this vid is making me think about how awesome it would be to see John Petrucci and Chris rip a tandem solo.

  • @Epinephrine666 and rusty cooley and michael angelo batio

  • D= i just had a crisis.

  • look at the pc, lol FPS_Broderick should be his name

  • @worldofurin so what...he has a computer in the room...you think he only does music on guitar you idiot

  • @darkwingdangel101 lol i was just pointing out that he was playing cs nothing wrong about it

  • @shredfantom..????beautiful??....this is Heavy Metal son..you want beutiful then then replace yours with your moms cd collection

  • @nneevveerrmmoorree That's probably the most ridicilous fucking comment i've ever read. Metal isn't beatiful ? It's the most beautiful thing i've ever heard. It's not about banging your head like a moron and hoping you don't break your empty skull by accidently hitting a wall. It's about voices, basses, drums and guitars shredding your soul apart. If that isn't beautiful, what is?

  • fook

i can't pick triplets that fast on a single string never mind the string skipping buissiness

  • LOL CS de_dust on the computer :0

  • I think he is great, I would like to see him to have more feel,

  • really chopy, but, my favourate solo ever!

  • don't take this the wrong way but that just sounds like a warm up exersize more htan a solo :/

  • Listen to it in the context of the song here

    /watch?v=ZGfsPzVL3N4

It starts at 1 min 44, it blends so well with the backing and sounds SO epic. Dont judge a piece until you heard it was it was intended to be heard.

  • too right!! fits in with that song perfectly

  • @slashowns102938

It fits in when heard in the context of the song

  • @slashowns102938 i agree but its a damn good excercise

  • @slashowns102938 it does lol but you cant deny thats its really cool haha, and honestly in a song it would really depend what the rhythem guitar and drums are doing. bass doesnt really matter cuz monkeys play bass... look at tom araya

  • @1985guy1985 Monkeys play bass? Look at Les Claypool, he's probably more skilled than any guitarist I've ever seen. Then, of course, there's Flea, Mark Miller, Victor Wooten and Matt Freeman, just to name a few. All of those people are highly skilled musicians, who are better than most guitarists. I play both bass and guitar, so I can tell.

Now, think before you make such a stupid statement. Just because the bassists in the bands you listen to are shit, doesn't mean all bassists are.

  • @Merioc2k3 Shut the fuck up fagget, go suck a dick or die or both. nothing les caypool does is musical. a monkey can do his job. and i play practically every stringed instrument and know more about music than you do so once again shut the fuck up fagget

  • @1985guy1985 Wow, awesome Ad Hominems there. Les Claypool is a musical genius. You can't deny that. You've obviously just heard a song or two by him, and then decided that he sucked.

You're jumping to conclusions, too, so your opinions can't be taken seriously. Also, I'd like to see you play some solos from Les Claypool.

  • @1985guy1985 Hahahaha you play stringed instruments huh?? Not a SINGLE person I know who plays would say that about Les Claypool. I agree with Merioc, Claypool is the fuckin man and writes all the parts of all the songs. Also, Victor Wooten would wipe his ass with you. Claypool and Wooten almost combine percussion and string with their solos. You instantly go to insulting someone rather than presenting an argument. Go listen to your Shitknot so the rest of us can enjoy talent in its purest form

  • @slashowns102938 slash does NOT own. bitch.

  • @jfacray182 LOL dude don't get all ppissy, i made this username when i first astarted playing guitar and was obsessed with slash, now it's more dimebag and jeff loomis, you happy with that? jeeze

  • @slashowns102938 yea. but must solo sounds dull and boring when they are not put into a context

  • @25jonathan yeah but this solo is particularly just aa triplet pattern moved around the fretboard more than actual licks, don't get me wrong it sounds brilliant in the song i'm just saying on it's own it sound like more of a warm up excersize

  • @slashowns102938 I couldn't agree more.

  • @slashowns102938 yeah it sounds better with chords behind it

  • @slashowns102938 it sounds good in context

  • @slashowns102938 you are right. Go back and listen to the song. It sounds sick!

  • @slashowns102938 please check out in the contest of the song, it sound awesome

  • @slashowns102938 To Chris Broderick every solo is merely a warm up exercise :)

  • @slashowns102938

You could say that about any solo really since they're all composed of everything that makes up exercises, excluding the weird ones.

  • @slashowns102938 Listen to it with actual music, sounds better. I thought the same thing when I first heard this.

  • @slashowns102938 Most solos are scales. That's why we're to practice them. (keyboard player)

  • Will you be my Valentine Chris? :)

  • holy fuckin jesus christ monkey balls...haha

  • He picked every single note...geeze lol

  • technically if he is tremolo picking and doing it on several different strings wouldn't it just be alternate picking several strings my point is they r exactly the same except tremolo is faster

  • I read somewhere that if you're tremolo picking, alternate picking and string skipping then it's called Industrial Picking. I could be wrong.

  • String skipping

  • ...flawless....

  • I just listened to the song... Holy shit lol, this is amazingly well composed, fits the rhythm PERFECTLY. Chris kicks ass.

  • wow way 2 nit pick the fuck out of the way he is picking guys. does it really matter how he picks it was long as it sonds good

  • ... Um, may I interject?

Who gives a shit what he's doing, alternate or tremolo (it's alternate...) picking... He's doing it pretty well, heh.

  • you do realize that tremolo picking IS alternate picking right?

  • Not exactly. Alternate picking is picking the strings up and down, sometimes on different strings, to increase efficiency and speed while playing a song. Basically, ALTERNATING between upstrokes and downstrokes, and occasionally strings. Tremolo picking is picking (one single note at a time, or a slide of intentional/tangent notes on a string) very very quickly up and down on ONE string.

  • then what would you call a solo section that required you to tremolo pick on 4 strings?

  • a pain in the ass? (i thought it was funny)

  • It's not Tremolo picking... fuckin' A. And yes, a huge pain in the ass. That string skipping fuckin' rapes.

  • No. Alternate picking does not increase speed. Economy picking will always be faster when it is trained properly.

  • no way most of the fast patterns out there are being played with alternate picking

  • @UnnaturalGR No. Economy picking is always faster then alternate picking when practiced efficiently. Look at Yngwie, he almost always economy picks. Do the research.

  • i really dont think so i've checked guitarists like Rusty Cooley who is much faster than Yngwie he's using alternate, before months i would agree with you that economy is faster but now i've practised alternate and it really works for me

  • @UnnaturalGR Alternate is great, and everyone uses both anyways for the most part. But economy is faster. It wastes less time when switching strings. Rusty Cooley does both, he does not strictly alternate.

  • No its not, the fastest pickers in the world are pretty much all alternate pickers, guys like theodore ziras, shawn lane, dellavega etc. It makes sense really, the fastest anyone will ever be able to play is just picking on one string right? This is because the motion is consistant always down up down up, wheras with economy picking there are sudden un even changes, you might go down up down down up down up etc rather than just down up down up, at the really high speeds it is very difficult for

  • Probably he meant sweep is faster as far as one note per string arpeggios are concerned.

  • the muscle memory to keep up with all this changing. Straight up alternate picking however eliminates this problem because the movement is ALWAYS the same no matter what pattern you are playing it will always be consistantly down up down up, your body is alot better suited to controlling that at very high speeds than economy picking.

Of course economy picking is good too, more so for certain styles than others but to say it is 'akways faster than alternate picking' is simply nonsense.

  • I watched your cover for All agains all. The Haunted are awesome and you did a great job. theres proper tremolo in that song.

  • na dude. Tremolo speed is genereated in the wrist..more fluid and less tiring on the arm. You've got it all wrong. when it comes to what Tremolo is. There's no such thing as Tremolo picking a triplet.

  • Tremolo picking or double picking describes the musical technique of picking on a guitar or other string instrument in which a single note is played repeatedly in quick succession. It can be achieved either with the fingers or with a pick. In the latter case, the pick is moved up and down rapidly to hit the intended string of the guitar evenly. This technique adds sustain to a melodic line where the notes would otherwise decay rapidly. If picked fast enough, the note sounds constant.

  • lol you've still got it wrong. Tremolo picking has to do with picking the same note. Those were triplets that Chris is playing.

  • dumbass...thats not tremolo. Its a really fast series of triplets.

  • is that the guitar that loomis plays on the youtube video called "engines of hate solo" ??

    it looks the same

  • Top-notch playing.

  • Fuck you, the solo has been played out of context. Hear it with the backing rhythm you cocksucker.

  • Listen to it in the context of the song, it blends beautifully with the backing chords.

  • go listen to the song before you make a comment about "melody" and "feeling" you dipshit

  • Great picking!

  • I find it amazing that he can pick that fast with his fingers out. He truly is an amazing player, Great choice on Daves part.

  • Jesus christ.

  • This solo is kind of crazy!

  • You realise this is from 2006, right?

  • at the end he just stops like WHAT NOW BITCH

  • this just makes me feel like i've failed life because i can't even play a quarter of a qaurter as fast as he does this and with such precision

  • Chris Broderick sure does love his 7-strings lol

    fuckin epic!

  • *self confidence disappears instantly*

  • I love this type of solos.

  • OMG O.O

  • sounds kinda simple when you break it down. although to play it as a whole must be a bitch because of the string skipping and speed

  • Well I quit.

  • word lol

  • fucking hell, like zero string noise!

  • Fucking champ. Nuff said.

  • I went all the way back to page 11 on the comments, I swear to god next person who says "OMG, THIS HAS NO EMOTION / OMG, ITS SO REPETITIVE" I'll rip your head off...

LISTEN TO THE FUCKING SONG BEFORE YOU MAKE BULLSHIT COMMENTS

  • OMG, THIS HAS NO EMOTION/ OMG, ITS SO REPETiTIVE

    I kid, I kid, I <3 Chris.

  • i admire your humor, lol

  • I am self-titled king of the internets, your damn right you admire it.

  • how many strings is on that guitar. i cant tell but i think its seven.

  • yeah it's 7, look at the tuning pegs

  • 7. Lookat the nobs on the headstock.

  • mhm its 7.. just look where \u tune the guitar.. lol

  • hes extremely talented he doesnt only do metal, u guys should see some of the freakin beautiful stuff that he plays on the acoustic guitar, he play almost any style hes amazing

  • You can hear every note so clear...damn what a skill

  • i bet he has been bummed.

  • yup. UG FTW.

  • ok you guys are all retards, Chris Broderick is an amazing guitar player, he practices all kinds of techniques, he even plays classical music oin the guitars and does an amazing 8 finger tapping solo based on many different things if you watch, give credit to the people who take the dedication to play technical and use it in their music. I'll bet none of you can do what he does

  • i think this is just one of those wank songs. just to kind of show off. based on your comment i don't think you realize how godly chris broderick really is. check him out before talking shit on one of the best guitarist alive today.

  • i agree, i know he can do way better than this

  • never realized there might be people out there who like this kind of playing?

You can post this bullshit under some other youtube-shredding-videos but not here. chris broderick can play a LOT more than fast stuff and i bet most of the shredguitarists, too (yeah, maybe except of the ones who play for their ego), because they develop their skills and are engaged in it. grow up.

  • There are some good fast ones - but usually the guys who sit in their bedroom with a metronome for years are as boring as hell.

But people like Guthrie Govan and Bumblefoot can play fast but musically aswell. Robert fripp is a good example too - he can play VERY fast when he wants to, but more often than not decides to hold back

  • do you think fucking john mayer could pull this shit off? People realize they cant do this and instead subvert to lesser technique , honestly im glad they do some of the best music is simple

  • I agree with you man. But in all reality, john mayer is actually better than people give him credit for. Some of his finger picking shit is really hard, not to mention to sing while doing it.

  • for realz. His song "Neon" is a beast for finger picking.

  • Apparently you dont know much about chris. Im not trying to start anything, but he is a very well rounded guitar player. GO check out his Downward fall video. I think you will like it.

  • I really don't think it matters whether you play fast or slow. What matters is that what you play is beautiful. I don't buy the idea that speed and technique are emotionless. Mastering theory and technique only opens more doors for creativity. I also don't believe simplicity is without merit, because some of the greatest songs are simple. There is enough room in this world for both Paganini's 5th Caprice and "Jesus of Suburbia." Both are beautiful examples of artistry.

  • It's just artistry is really hard to come by at any time. Technique has helped me alot for expression, but I find that some of my most beautiful solos are really "simple" at least they are not as fast and technique-heavy, but it always depends on how you translate your idea into music. So whenever I get stuck, I try to see what technique I need to brush up on ^^

  • Nicely said.

  • Yes, very nice statement. Only thing is that not everybody can play fast. All guitar players can play slow obviously, but not all of them have the talent to be fast. Even though speed isn't everything, it still shows something.

  • I disagree. It can be very difficult to play slow, especially when you're talking about a well developed vibrato. If you take a listen to someone who has a very intricate vibrato; for example - Marty Friedman, it can be very difficult to emulate. As for myself, one of my most intense techniques comes from the backwards whammy bar vibrato that I use in my "Guitar Tricks" video, used in conjunction with my Crybaby, in order to create a very slow, sad, and expressive singing vibrato.

  • Well yes that's very true when you mention vibrato, Marty Friedman is a great example. All I'm trying to say is that it does show some talent playing fast. But I do agree it isn't much if there isn't feeling in it. But those same techniques can also be pulled off in the middle of super speed riffs and solos.

  • Yes, of course; it obviously does take some skill to play "Flight of the Bumblebee" at 300 bpm. It's also very difficult to do 8 finger tapping when it's at its most intricate and melodic, and the same goes for fingerstyle technique.

  • i would have to agree with you some part. i feel that one should play slow and play fast equally. covering all ends off the spectrum. and yet sadly there are some people how cant play slow. because they never worked their way up, and when they try it sound horrible and dull. espically with a lack of vibarto.

  • Practicing technique is all about removing the physical obstacles between you and your music.

  • "Emotion is in the eye of the beholder. What is emotional to one is not to another. Holding or bending one note is not the only emotion that exists which I think most people forget. There are many emotions, you have to understand which ones the musicians you listen to are trying to express [such as] fear, anger, nervous, uneasy, love, passion, hatred, religion, sex etc..."

yea it's a nice subjective argument for pretending wanking your guitar has any worthwhile musical content.

  • If you can't stand blindingly fast music(which you've made obvious by your comment here), why did you bother to watch this video in the first place?

It's pretty tough to convince people that their opinion is wrong and yours is right when you imply that anyone that disagrees with you(especially on a completely subjective issue) must be inferior to you in some way.

  • yeah fuck you man, the difference is that technical musicians have lost credibility in the world, fuckers like john mayer who was born in Connecticut and thinks he knows shit about the blues are dominant, the reemergence of technique in music is actually pretty fucking awesome

  • Well, if you like John Mayer, go listen to him, and leave people who don't like him alone. There's a reason why there's more than one musical genre in the world--people aren't all exact copies of one another.

Call me idealistic, but I pray for the day when people see how stupid it is to incite holy wars over individual musical tastes and go listen to the music they like instead.

  • Are you some kind of visonary Tom? You speak the truth bro. Nicely put!

  • I think this is his actual account. How else would you get a low-quality shred video of somebody like this?

  • i like solos that has a pulse

  • OMG He has the biggest hands i have or ever will see, hes like a troll/werewolf lovechild

  • is this chris' home that he's playing in?

  • Rusty Cooley on "emotion vs. technique":

"Emotion is in the eye of the beholder.

P.S. I honestly don't like Rusty's playing, but I think he has a valid point here.

  • good quote. i know when i play i don't really show any emotion but i feel it

  • I think he's a very good player, but I don't really like his style. I miss Friedman!

  • I agree. i'm so tried of the sweepy stuff and legato shit soloing right now. To much bands use it for soloing these days. It is too tasteless.

  • Yeah, the solos don't really have any emotion or any kind of feeling put in them. So they take a lot of talent and are very hard to do, I prefer Page or Clapton's solos because they have feeling! It's not just "Look at how fast I can play!"

  • Enough of the emotion talk. I hear it all the time and it is getting annoying. Most of the time, emotional solos are just a bunch of stupid faces and bends. I'm talking about creative solo. I prefer Michael Amotts and Chris Polands solo because they are creative. Any average guitarist can play a so called emotional solo. Most of the time it is just " look at my screwed up face and bends!"

  • Yeah, but solos like the solo in Stairway tend to be the most famous solos.

  • So have Eruption, Crazy Train, Floods , and Holy Wars? Your argument is flawed. BTW, solos like Stairway are overrated and annoying to hear nowadays.

  • And Eruption isn't overrated?

  • Nope. I have never seen anyone get annoyed when Eruption was played.

  • Well take a look at my favourties and see the types of solos are in there! Maybe I just need a change!

I think whatever song it is is important though and sometimes, a slower solo that builds into a faster solo are solos that pwn! A bit of both is nice!

  • Who gives a fuck about if it is slow or fast. If a solo is creatively nice than that is all that matters. For some reason you are hell bend on slow solos. Me, I don't care about tempo.

  • OK, the quality is all that matters. I'm not that good at writing slow solos. All of mine are really fast so maybe I'm getting tired of them. Who knows? I'm not a great guitarist though.

  • Post them. I want to see if you are full of shit or all truth.

  • I have nothing to video me playing with. I have some low quality recordings I did on Sound Recorder D:

    D'you have MSN or something?

  • I can't unless we're friends, apparently XD

  • I've seen hundreds... but I love Eruption, don't get me wrong =)

  • WHAT! BUT THATS IMPOSSIBLE!

  • fucking right doggie!!!!! whooooooo!!!!

  • fuck yeea broderick is god cant wait to hear Megadeth's new album this year.....\m/

  • 500mph xD

  • this isnt some i'll talk about my feelings music, not every solo has to come from a bleeding heart, this is metal, fast and aggressive is part of the music

  • Bull Shit..go check out early 80's Metal before Malmsteen..

Check out ,Criss Oliva ,George Lynch, Randy Rhoads ,Eddie Van Halen,Vito Brattta, you might never heard of them ,But they did not focous on playing fast!

  • dude i just meant once in a while its fine to play a million notes a second. I am a fan of Rhoads , Oliva, Lynch and Van Halen. Take the stick out your ass

  • he has all skill but no expression and feel :\

  • so it has to be bendy and slow to have feeling??

  • Ever hear the actual song? It is just that.

Without the song, the solo has no expression.

  • I have been saying that the past few weeks, this guy does not bend or has has no vibrato at all!

poor guy has no respect for music!

  • So I guess you're one of those guys who bends a note and makes a facial expression and calls it emotion.

  • I am nothing like this..watch this video...

Count how many bends and watch his vibrato real close...

  • Yes, and that is THIS PARTICULAR SOLO. Other solos, you can see he does bend, and he adds a great amount of vibrato.

And if you listen to the actual song, the intro to the solo has bends and vibrato. I don't know why he didn't play it here.

If you want to hear the song, go to myspace, look up jag panzer under music in the search box, go to the music page (Not jag panzer's home page) and click the mechanized warfare album. Go to the Scarlet Letter

  • whos the scarlet letter by ?

  • Its by Jag Panzer off of the album Mechanized Warfare.

    Jake

  • i like his nylon string playing better

  • awesome technique but this is very boring ! nothing but shred

  • It's the solo part man of the song ! What did you expect ???
