  • Jamie, forgive me if this had already been asked but what happened to your jacket (coat) at 2:16? You had it on before and after that angle. Fancy edit.

  • @adburger wow..no one has ever asked,,,and I have never ever noticed that in all these years

This was of course somewhat edited , but I dont know how they did it. This is a mystery

    wow!

  • @jglaser333 Hey Jamie, congrats for your concert with JLP in Lima last week, hope you get to come more frequently, we don't get too many visits from guitarists your caliber, next time bring some albums too!!

  • @rodcrippler thank you very much!!! It was great to play and meet so many wonderful people in Peru

  • btw, what's the name of this song?

  • Wow. This is totally historic, dude. Just found a university performance of Chick doing King Cockroach with just John and Dave--no guitar:

    watch?v=uEh5dSB0rmk

I imagine Scott had recently dropped out... Were you booked sometime before or after that? So interesting! Congrats on doing what the rest of us only dream of getting to do!

  • @luvmedo56 thanks ,,,I came in after Scott...it wouldnt be right for me to talk about the situation that led to Scott not being there,,,it was a wonderful wonderful time. I just rejoined with Jean Luc Ponty and we will be doing a reunion tour in South America all of November with our band from the 80's ...come out and see us Plz my best

    jamie

  • @jglaser333 Very exciting to hear about you and Ponty! Best wishes! I hope you bring it to the States' east coast.

  • @luvmedo56 thank you

  • @jglaser333 >>wouldnt be right for me to talk about the situation that led to Scott not being there<<

Hey, it's all good, you know? If Scott hadn't left, we wouldn't have had Tribal Tech.

  • @kakvodastava thats very funny

  • Boy, I love the energy and complexity of this song!. How many times you have to listen at it to learn to play along?

  • @flyzee thank you my friend Andres

I learned it all by reading the music

    jamie

  • thank you ...I appreciate THAT

    my best

    Jamie

  • all I can say is wowowow! totally blown away by this Jamie. I could never even begin to dream of playing stuff like this. Incredible amount of talent up on that stage. Man you hold your own with anyone. Such a great guitar solo! God you are good!! I am going to have to spend more time going through some of your stuff. I'm not a jazz/fusion fanatic but I could see how it could get addicting with stuff like this. WOW!

  • thank you Mr Steve..

the music was exciting to play and influenced rock a great deal..I was proud to be part of this and the other bands like Ponty

You are a wonderfully talented blessed man

    I appreciate you coming by

    Jamie

  • That version own! Especially the beginning and after the keyboard solo, when they come back with the main theme.

  • thanks

    my best

    jamie

  • I got lucky saw you play in Jakarta at mid 80's

  • that's great

    I love Jakarta

    have a good one

    jamie

  • hello mr Glaser i have to say you have a very interesting picking technique do you use a certain pick all the time? i use a jazz lll all the time.

do you work on phrasing alot of the time when practicing or are you more focused on using scales to mold your solos or conversations? as i know you call them.

i heard from pebber brown that your one of the best jazz fusion guitarists of all time so i thought i would check out your playing and he is right as usual your amazing!!!

  • thank you for such a nice comment

I use a medium guage pick,.,fenders or dunlops usually

I do have some heavy ones (jazz) for the occasional warn bebop sound

but my influence is more rock as you know(in terms of sound)

    I practice many things

but no I dont practice phrasing by itself

    Thank you again

    my best

    Jamie

    jamieglaser-com

  • thankyou so much for the reply coming from such a great player i am honoured to recieve such words from one of the best!!

thanks for answering my question you are such a interesting player.

with more listening i think your a very great player with lines that remind me of alan murphy especially with the more jazz songs such as this one.

were you influenced at all by Allan Holdsworth? i hear you have a very unique way of you playing the scales and your phrasing is very interesting as always.

  • thanks

    sure I listened to Alan

actually I took his place when he left Ponty

those were some "big shoes" to fill

Jean Luc worked really hard with me to help me find myself

I think jean Luc was my biggest influence for phrasing etc

email me at luckyrecording at aol

    thanks

    jamie

  • Music perfect! Thanks...5s

and one of the greates musicians that has ever lived

Chick was amazing to play with , and a great person.

  • one question if you dont mind answering it. how come you stopped playing with Chick corea?

  • beacuse the gig was over ..we toured for 1 year

I had Seinfeld and 6 other TV shows to do, he replaced me with the awesome Frank Gambale

  • where can you get the sheet music for this? mabe just the bass part?

  • thats a great question

look at Warner Brothers, they scored lots of the stuff I did with Ponty

    you can also check abstractlogix

    thanks

  • You can find the sheet music for the whole album at the Sheet Music Plus website. My band in college used to cover this tune. I wish I could find the recording!

    thanks for writing

    my best

    Jamie

  • wow your awesome. love this song. wish you had more time with electric band :( by the way i had question. im a bass player attending music school in LA i wanted to know if its possoble to get lessons from john patitucci. does he give private lessons? it would be a honor to get lessons from a legend

  • Thanks for your comment

You know I played with these guys in the 80's I havent been in touch with anyone but Chick ..

John did teach 20 years ago but I have no idea now.

    Happy new year

    Jamie

    jamieglaser-com

  • thank you so much for responding. happy new year and God Bless

  • Hi Jamie,

Funnily enough I was watching an old VHS withe Scott Henderson in the band doing this number and you kick his ass LOL!!!

    Have a great Xmas!

    Love you always man!

    Your friend,

    Enrico

  • Wow,.,,Scott will kick my ass if he reads THAT

    Thanks man

    Have a great holiday

    your friend

    Jamie

  • Wow, man. I was just going to comment on how much I loved "that guitar player" before realized that you posted this. Love the way you play this one, esp. those cool muted licks during the solo section. I personally wish you'd have been in the band all along (first time I've ever heard you, FWIW).

Cool on the animal rescue too!

  • well you know I sure appreciate that

    thanks for your kind comments

  • Great stuff! I didn't even know that there was video with Chick from late 70s/early 80s (is that when this was?)

  • 1986

    thanks for watching

    jamie

    jamieglaser-com

  • Chick Chinchilla and Return to Fur-Ever!

  • thats perfect

    LOL

  • The theatrics is just a little too corny for me. Great players otherwise. I still love the 70's fusion better, less commercialism.

  • when we did this in 86 we had already played all that stuff in the 70's,now we were having fun and we werent playing in clubs for a hundred male musicians analyzing every scale and lick we played

we were making music ,bcommercial to US meant we were reaching people selling music, changing the world. We left our Arteest personalities n the practice room.

This is as loose as we got

It wasnt easy playing 200 notes a second..I can assure you of that!

    thanks for watching

    Jamie

    jamieglaser-com

  • I know. I just miss the early 70's fusion bands. I saw you, Marcus Miller, Nick Moroch, and I think it was Donald Blackman with Lenny White. Boy, that was a great band!!! I love the work you did back in those days...

  • thanks.. playing with Lenny was a blast

  • I know. Lenny is so cool... How old was Marcus Miller back then? 17? I think the still had braces on when I saw you guys perform. I was right in the time frame when Astral Pirates came out, but I think Streamline was still in the works. I had front row at Great American Music Hall. Up close and personal.

  • I remember playing there ..we had a big to do,.,,backstage cause Don Blackman wanted to smoke pot on stage LOL I dont remember if he did or not

    we were all nuts

    Marucs was 18

  • Uh Oh... That's funny...... I remember you guys just totally kicked butt that night. Lenny was on his mark that night. he was pulling some stuff out that I didn't see him do with RTF. The band was just really happening!

Are there any live recordings (video and/or audio) from the Soundboard? If so, maybe they should get released.

  • not that I know of

I have some in storage from when I played with the electrik band ...

    but not from Lenny

    thanks..have a good one

    Jamie

  • I hope some of the stuff gets released. Take care...

  • hola jamie exelente cancion, rumble es a good song if your work have guitar player is very good, the final of song with keyboard, bass and guitar is sublime progression.

  • Gracias

    Thank you so much

    glad you enjoyed my friend

    Ciao

    Jamie

  • Hey Jamie,

Was watching a tiki video or two when I came across this one.

Personally, I think that one of the ways you can tell a great player is by NOT noticing it's his first gig with the band. I DID NOT notice! Great playing and great tone!

    Peace,

    Robbie

  • appreciate that Robbie

    all of it

thanks for taking thetime to comment

    Peace

    Jamie

  • very awesome ........................

  • thank you my east coast friend

    Jamie

  • Man - you were READING that stuff live on stage with Chick, John and Dave Weckl??

Astounding - what a guy!!! If I even dreamt I had done that I would wake up and apologize!! I remember you best with Jean luc way back..but CCEB isnt a bad name on your CV either:)

  • Its my job!! LOL

    Thanks

    Jamie

  • You are a great player Jamie - I didnt even realise you played with the elektric band..you have mixed with some of the very best musicians (what the hell was John P doing at the start of this performance though??)

    Great stuff!!

  • thanks my friend

    John was probably helping me,..

I had never played with the band..this was my first time, we had no rehearsals,.

I was reading the music on the floor of the stage

    Jamie

  • Does anybody have whole "Live Under The Sky '86" DVD? At the beginning of it, during the introduction of musicians, a crazy solo from "King Cockroach" is heard. I think it is breath-taking but can't find the whole song anywhere. You know something about this?

  • After I did this show they gave me a DVD and this was all that was on of us...

there was other footage of Herbie Hancock and the other 10 acts or so

If you find more of our concert let me know

    thanks

    Jamie

    jamieglaser-com

  • Yes, I know there is only one song on the DVD by Elektric Band - "Rumble". But I'm talking about the first 30 seconds or so on the DVD, when slideshow of musicians is shown, their introduction, that is. The background music seems to be "King Cockroach". In my DVD version (which is 42 min long), the first 30 seconds is slideshow of musicians. Then the video abruptly cuts to the scene when Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea are standing together on stage...

  • Yes I know ..I was there

    they edited all that out

they were testing the cameras during the rest of our set. Maybe some camera person in Japan has that footage...

they also filmed us during soundcheck

this stuff always has a way of showing up ..with or without our permission.

There are few who care that we make our living this way..they just want to share stuff for free,...ya know

    Jamie

  • I see. Which songs did you perform that day in Japan with the Elektric Band apart from "Rumble"?

  • ha ha..you're not only nice but funny

I am sorry remembering the set from 1986 is impossible my friend.

We did every song off that album, and spain, maybe a return to forever song (electric ones)

and whatever chick was in the mood to play..we used to have some audience participation songs that were nevr recorded on any albums, but cool.

    My best

    Jamie

    jamieglaser-com

  • Aha, so you did play "King Cockroach" then. That was you playing the solo in the DVD intro? I'm so desperate to find the whole song, I even have that 30 sec clip as a ringtone on my mobile...

  • yes@ Thank you

  • Oh, if that was you playing that solo from "King Cockroach"... I must say that is the best guitar solo I have ever heard! No kidding. And one of my favourite songs, as well. You rock! Thanks for the great music. Greetings from Serbia...

  • thats very nice of you to say

    Thank you very much

    jamieglaser-com

  • Awesome Jamie. I really like your interpretation. Excuse my lack of guitar knowledge, but I think this track really benefits from, the reverb/echo effect on your playing.

  • Thank you very much

    jamie

  • wow you play with chick.just lik Al Di meola. im 21 now and the others in my class dosent know about jazz rock musick. the know about hip hop and that stuff. wich soloes do you played on on the album a taste for person?

I dont listen to the albums Ive done

But I know Im there LOL

    thanks for coming by guitarguy

    Jamie

  • Hi, Jamie, just to bug you a sec. In terms of chronology, who was first to play with CCEB: you, Carlos Rios, or Scott Henderson?

  • Scott played before me, I played with him a year and a little more, then Frank Gambale took over for me while I was doing Seinfeld and 10 other TV shows. I didnt know Carlos played with them...

    Carlos kicks butt

    thanks

    Jamie

  • I found out about Carlos Rios when I read the credits on my cassette tape (hahaha, obsolete technology). I just saw that "Live Under the Sky" sign that read 1986. I also noticed you playing pizzicato with a short delay -- I don't recall that in the recording -- sounds nice!

  • wow, you guys were extremely good. i have a washburn x10 guitar, and i can play some pretty good music up on my channel, but i need advice on cool techno stuff and solos likeyou were playing. do you have any good quick beginner tips i can use?

  • yes..study music theory, learn how to read music, study hard. I graduated Berklee College of Music...that helped get me ready for challenging performaces such as this.

Thank you very much for watching and commenting

    Jamie

  • hey thanks! i appreciate it. my guitar instructor said he was gonna study music theory, he said it is complicated

  • Music theory is hard, it's like math or engineering.

  • killin' dude. really great.

    best,

    Rich

  • Nice to see you Rich!!

    How are you my friend?

    thanks for watching

    Jamie

  • IMPRESIONANTE

  • thank you

    Jamie

  • I just picked up the mad hatter record on vinyl at the Old School Record Shop in Forest park, Illinois. it was great to actually find a record store with devoted music fans working and combing through records. Something we're missing sorely today. "The Cult of the Amateur. How today's internet is killing our culture." by Andrew Keen, addresses how youtube is hijacking our music. Die myspace and die google. die wikipedia! die iTunes!

  • there sure is a difference..

and there are lots of us in the music business who are benefitting greatly from youtube etc. Now the whole world can see, hear and enjoy music they would have to try to find in a sea of records. Thanks for commenting here.

    I cant take the credit

Chicks main engineer from his studio Mad Hatter was on the road with us

  • Wow! Chick had a song/Album called Mad Hatter.

So, he had named his studio after it.Cool!

A good sound man is from heaven. They make a

gig ,so stress free while on stage.

  • I'm a drummer, so I can't really use all the right terms when it comes to guitar-related stuff. But man do I love your style and sound! Did you get to play some material from the release that followed (Light years), as well? And did Chick ever force you do the robot stance during the intro? You've earned your spot in music history Mr. Glaser! :). P.S. Loved you practicing video as well. Regards, Jonas.

  • Thank you Jonas!!

This video was made the first day I was with Chick

I was sight reading the music on teh floor

How long to I have till before I pick ?

Who's got it better than Jamie !!
