  • Hi there

I am wanting to make a 12" George Formby figure. I have a 12" body but need the right clothes and hat (what do you call the hat he wore) and the banjo ukulele itself all in 1/6 scale.

    Help?

  • @johnizzle725 There's a banjolele in a cupboard in my local antiques market -- You could look in your local antiques shop for one

  • Fantastic...you can see why people a

re getting into them again...and they take up no room !!!

  • the lyrics in all his songs are sexual inuendo's any one else noticed that?

  • I`ll get goosebumps if George Formby plays solo on his ukulele, like on 2:30.

    A master.

  • U need to use 2 fingers ; ) She got 2 of everything ;) lol

  • This brings back memories my gGrandad used to play George Formby all the time im 23 and ill always love it.

  • i've played that bajolele before! XD

  • @davidmortiboy do you mean georges real uke ?

  • @tombland10 yep, one of his real ukes. signed by him

  • Check out the recorded version of this,The Lead Break,THE BEST Ever!!

  • the chap drinking the ale in his easy chair on the left has the right idea! this music is so great.

  • Lol. He is from Lancashire. My paternal line came from Lancashire lol.

  • Ol' Georgie really knew how to swing! It's TALENT like this that helped Britain win the war! Thanks for sharing this delightful footage! :)

  • He's a cheeky wee bastard

  • did george formby sing live in his films or was it dubed on later any one know

  • its live according to my nana they couldnt dub in those days...

  • Dubbed - as were most of his film performances. Yes they could dub in those days and earlier. Look at George singing "I couldn't let the stable down" in "Come on George". At one stage his mouth stops moving as he momentarily forgets the start of the second verse, yet the singing continues. It was common practise to mime even back then.

  • Great solo.The mans a genius!

  • This is probably the dirtiest Formby song if you've got a dirty enough mind (Mine is absolutely black with filth!)

  • I've only recently "discovered" George and am thankful for YouTube! I've been playing the guitar for about 50 years . . but guess who has ordered a banjolele? Can't wait 'till it arrives! George is FANTASTIC!

  • @guitarplayer1948 I've been looking to order a banjolele myself for awhile now, but I'm nervous I'll make a bad choice. How did you decide which one was right for you? Do you have an opinion on one you think is particularly good?

  • @johnizzle725 Hello! I was equally nervous about buying my banjolele. I got a GOLD TONE "banjolele deluxe." The only difference between the regular and the "deluxe" is that the deluxe has a resonator on it which makes it a bit louder and brighter. It's hard to buy an instrument without hearing it or trying it...a leap of faith! NO music store around me had banjoleles, so I had to do it online. I've been very pleased with mine.

  • @guitarplayer1948 Ahh thanks so much! Same situation, absolutely NO banjoleles anywhere I know of, so I've been hunting for reliable opinions online. Thanks for your suggestion and vote of confidence! The Gold Tone looks like a good buy, I think I'll pick one up.

  • +1 for your creativity, -1 for the insult

  • I lol'd :D

  • So does yours... think about it...

  • MegaDoctor123 you are what frankie boyle pushes out his arse every-morning when he wakes up

  • Very funny song! Really enjoyed this one.

  • I enjoy reading the comments on these wonderful old timers, except when an idiot like Ulmeyda08 has his foulmouthed say. Can these people not put a sentance together without including the F word, I'm sure George Formby would not be happy to see such childish ignorance.Have some respect you clown.

  • haha, oh you old miserable git.

  • Brilliant George !

  • Comment removed

  • George Formby was the Hendricks of his day.

Wow! he can certainly Mr George Banjo.

    George rocks!

  • One cannot deny the beauty of the young ingenue to whom George addresses his remarks. She has a great smile, lovely legs, and the dress reacts superbly to her foot tapping. Obviously, a woman of taste, who likes banjolele, too!

  • I used to think is kind of thing was so old.

Funny that the older I get I can see the art in this!????

Of his time I bet he was respected!

I can understand way George harrison was such a big fan!

  • lennon was aswell...formby's a genius!!

  • Does anyone know the chord progression for this song? I have the Formby Uke book, but this isn't in it. Thanks in advance!

  • one of the best songs by formby i especially love the break. just bought all 19 fims they should come next week =]

  • george formby is so cool how did he get away with lyrics like he used i dont know can any one tell me if he sang live in the films dont look like he is mimeing and it dont sound like the records i always wanted to know

  • Such a typical Formby scene - playing the uke while girls look at him adoringly. Where he found all those babes is a mystery, because British film actresses in 1930s were a real plain bunch. I think George must have had all the good looking ones locked up on the top of the Blackpool Tower or something.

  • I have a Gibson uke banjo made in 1921 but don't know the tuning-it sounds great on this video

  • Gibson uke-banjos were made in 1927, replacing an earlier 'trapdoor' model made in 1925.

  • Brilliant..........

  • Does any have the song or flim "spooning" by George, pls post!! hehe

  • does anyone know where i can buy i cheap(ish..) banjolele? ive been lookin all over the place!! x

  • same but i was told id be looking at the thick end of £200 to get one, apparently there not tht common but i bought a normal uke and when i get good ill then look for one. might as well get good first until u find one

  • TURNED OUT NICE AGAIN ANTIT MISSIS?

  • he plays a ukabanjo that wot its called

  • Ukulele. But this inparticular is known as a Banjo ukulele or Banjo uke / Banjolele.

  • george formby made a lot of people happy.

  • i love this one on my favorite list

  • hey where can i get aukelwe

  • ive never seen george formby without his ukulele banjo in all his movies.

  • I think maybe George Harrison liked this too.

  • this is george at his best the uke playing is his best . great man.try david clarke u tube.

not as good as george but god not far of

  • I'm related to him :D George Formby is my great, great uncle, or something like that. I found out after I started busking with my banjo in the UK and got requests for his songs.

Then my nan told me we were related :)

  • Wow! That's really cool!

  • I used to watch all the Formby movies in the 40s, small town theatre in Hanley SK Canada. I hope you are getting some of his royalties! Leebm29 at yahoo dot com

  • Why can't we get his movies on DVD?

  • You can now. A box set of seven of his films was recently released - have a look on Amazon. They have great musical performances, comedy which still works today and something else you rarely see in British pre-war films - really attractive actresses. I don't know where George found them, but his leading ladies were always real babes.

  • A great musician, comedian and all-round entertainer!

  • Turned out nice again!!!

  • It is indeed an Abbot uke banjo, as LIVERLADD says. I've seen it several times, as it was on display in the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, UK. (George was a motor bike enthusiast.) I haven't been there since the fire of 2003, so I don't know if the instrument is still on show there.

  • i hate split hairs but the uke that formby plays in this vid is a dallas d model

  • Sorry, ukegaz, my mistake. It was the Abbott in the Motor Cycle Museum, and I just assumed this was the same one. I must confess that while I know something about guitars I don't know much about ukes.

  • Man, I wish I could play my uke like that.

  • he sounds like donald duck

  • I disagree - nothing like donald duck - I like it

  • makes me think of my nan and pap, a world gone away . thanks so much .great!!!!!

  • I think that is a Abbot uke banjo my favourite banjo. My great uncle had one and i played it once in awhile and loved its tone. George was the best no dout thx for the video:)

  • he really is a seriously funny-looking man

  • Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some 1920's trading cards of musical instruments, including the banjo.

  • excellent, and a pretty risque' song for the time!

  • Its from "I did'nt do it", 1945. In May there will be an official release of nine of George's films.

  • Don't know why but I've always liked Mr Formby.

  • wow, my dad would love this, where is it from. Herd the songs, never seen video

  • Turned out nice again.

  • Pure classic, and he`s was much better with his banjo than the redneck from `deliverance`.

  • It's a banjo ukulele (or banjolele), although it looks like a banjo, it is tuned and played like a ukulele.

  • george formby was born in wigan i think paulgra, lancashire definatly. FORMBY RULES

  • Formby is top!

  • the clown prince of song!

  • Where was he from? His accent sounds like Liverpool. He rocks on the ukelele banjo! the inspiration for the skiffle sound.

  • he is from wigan lancashire and proud of it

  • Rocks!

  • I love it when he giggles! GOD is he good on the ukulele banjo!

  • Oh yeah, good ol' George. He was a HUGE star in the UK whose career spanned four decades. All the British rock stars from the '60s grew up on George Formby records; this is why so much classic British rock has the humor it has, and why many of the famous British rock stars were ukulele fans/collectors. He was offered a deal to make a film in the U.S. during the war, but he turned it down in favor of entertaining the troops. Hollywood never called again, and thus he's virtually unknown over here.

  • McCartney said that songs like "Honey Pie" were written with the Formby sound in mind.

  • Lyrical master!!!
