I went through this a few weeks ago. Woke up one morning with severe shortness of breath and chest pain. a few hours later at the hospital they drained 850ml of fluid from around my heart.
it was a very different experience, they kept me awake through the whole thing. Scared the hell outta me when they stuck the tube it and fluid came spraying out... looked alot like as if someone was squeezing a juice box...
Eh. You kinda just go pokity-pokity until you see ectopy on the monitor; then you've it the myocardium. Okay, not really, but usually it's a 45degree depressed angel 2-3cm below xiphoid and point 45degrees to the L scapula...aspirate as you go...bingo...
Actually this guy was practically going just out of college when he performed this. How do I know this? I'm talking to the nurse that's featured on the video (the one on the blue clothing).

why is he inserting a guide? isn't the procedure just draining the pericardium with a syringe? looks like we had an hemothorax here.

I wonder why they haven't done it with echo-guidance...

does this look like its being done in a back room somewhere or is it just me?

keep in mind that most pericardial taps done in hospitals are guided by echo, as it greatly reduces the risk of perforating a ventricle.
