Guys - my 2003 320i is facing the same problem. I have already changed the sparkplugs, cleaned fuel injectors, changed fuel pump and the issue is still there. There are no codes. Any idea what could it be?
guys i had the same problem with my KIA, and i was so freaking worried about it, and i found out what is the problem exactly, it's one of two things, either it's the fuel injector or the Race system, what you have to do is to clean the fuel injector in a trusted company, and use original products, obviously the company will be providing it, and after you done cleaning walk on the car for at least 2 days, if you saw a change then it's just fine, if not, then get a new RACE system.
I found the problem. I had two of them. The O2 sensors where stuffed and the torque converter also needed to be reconditioned. Not cheap but drives as good as new now!
In case might help. My car also lost power and had the similar issue. It could only reach 40km while going uphill while usually 70-80. I replaced the O2 sensor and maf. Costly but now the car s fine and powerful as new
I had a similar problem with a 2001 325i, RPM needle jumping up/down at acceleration and no power or intermitent power. Get error codes P1350 and P1352. The car has 120K miles on it and I just changed the spark plugs and everything is OK now. Hope this helps.
hi i got exactly the same problem with my e46 320i m54...did u find a solution? mind to share? changed air mass controller on mine..things improve a bit but its still there...
check your oil cap is on properly, it sounds silly but i suffered with these symptoms for months and overlooked this,it also got past a garage full of mechanics and a diagnostic scan....take off your oil cap, clean it and put it on as tight as it`ll go...if cap isnt on tight you lose oil perssure and it messes up the variable valve timing which in turn plays havoc with all the knock and crnk sensors.....the oil cap may have a bad seal so may need replaced(£15 off ebay)....worked a treat:¬)
You are welcome, I know what pain in the ass it can be. I fight with this problem for almost a year. I tried to replace this sensor but due to tight access I broke it ;(. I am going to buy another one and ask mechanic to fix it for me. I am just tried. Merry X-Mas.
Not yet. I tried to do it but I broke new sensor. The access is very tight. I was trying to save some time and I did not remove mainfold. I tried to reach and screw in from the underneath. It didn't work out. Be carefuly this sensor is very, very sensitive. It is build up like microphone (I belive this is a microphone) inside, it has membrane with two tiny wires attached. Don't twist the plastic cover. I am going to buy one and ask mechanic to fix the problem. Merry X-Mas.
Dude. I drive Honda Civic. That sensor is located on the back wall of the engine, under the intake mainfold but over the oil filter. It is directly into engine block. I see this is common problem, either beemers or hondas. Hard to diagnose, because sensor is working at all, just providing wrong measurements. That's why engine check is not lighten up. I noticed the sensor cover is crushed when I was replacing the mainfold gasket.
I just replaced mainfold gasket. But due to lack of time I couldn't make it right. I did not clean old gasket residue and left some of it. Now there is lekeage of the coolant into mainfold. I leve huge cloud of smoke behind me ;). I noticed that one of the sensors is broken and doesn't fit tight. I belive this one is responsible for proper combustion.
My 05 Chevy Colorado does the same thing. It's manual transmission. Usually happen during the cold morning. When I put it gear in neutral going downhill, it the RPM usually go up and down by itself as if I apply the gas or break, but the problem is that I didn't apply anything. It gets to the point where sometime it goes too high that the engine just shut off and I'm stuck in the middle of the road having to restart. Anybody can help please?
God bless the youtube. I have the same problem with my 98 Honda Civic, I had replaced: ignition coil, 02, air throttle, steping motor, egr valve. I made valves reseting also. It is pain in the ass. RPMS are jumping +/- 300.
@DjRoslina me 2, i have replaced a buck of parts too, but it doesn't help, and i will going to replace the two pre-cat O2 sensor, hope it will work fine
@tingfungctf no probs my man,was it burning fuel and losing power when accelerating through all gears?...did it start off just fluctuating slightly during idle, then progressively got worse???plz answer as i have a similar prob with my e46 318ci..i knew it was man gasket but thats coz i bought a car at auction wiv the problem already fully blown(hyundai coupe)and my current car looks in the early stages of this problem....:¬)
@7809778984 hello , which O2 sensor you replaced? It's look like there is two O2 sensors. Is that the one at the exhaust side? can you send the parts number to me?
Hi, thx for your advice, but i want to know , did you car came out CODE show that is O2 sensor problem !? Because my car didn't show the code of O2 sensor, Just show the code of Air flow sensor , but i had tried to replace it, no help at all.
Hi, thx for your advice, but i want to know , did you car came out CODE show that is O2 sensor problem !? Because my car didn't show the code of O2 sensor, Just show the code of Air flow sensor , but i had tried to replace it, no help at all.
@tingfungctf i have e46 330ci 2000 and another e36 318is 1993 and i would like e30 325i coupe.. my favorite car :) , i got the check engine light with no warnings about sensors, i cleaned the ICV and MAF and i got no leaks, somehow i thought of the O2 sensor, i changed it, it was so black and ugly. luckily it worked. but i cannot fix the same idle problem on my e36.. its really a pain in the a...s
It's the exhaust cam sensor. I used to have it and when you accelerate mildly (before 2000 RPM) it will oscillate from 2000 RPM and down.then up again. If you go beyond 2000 RPM it goes up again but with less power.
I changed the exhaust cam sensor and everything goes fine. It could also be the intake cam sensor, depending on the code displayed. This happens because the VVT (VANOS) pulse is not ideal when these sesnors(pulse) are damaged. Thus less power and more fuel consumption.
Hello , thx for your information, but i had also replaced a new exhaust camshaft sensor too, instead , it 's the first thing i tried, but also , no help, i had replaced the vanos seal also , no help. rare......
i had also replace all the vacum hose, check all the vacum leak , but it seen not the problem is.
My fuel comsumption is good , more than 13km/1 liter.........
My car only give out the code of maf, but i had tried to replace a new one......no help .........
Its probally down to a the HT leads/ignition module from the charge ingintion unit. Replace the leads then all the spark plugs before trying to restart other wize you'll get carbon build up.
if you take the oil fille cap of and the idaling setalls down then it is a breather falut, had it on a car in work before worth a try. let me know if it works or is iv any help dude
i own a 99' 323ci - i have exactly the same problem - i have replaced the maf sensor and checked all vacuum hoses for any sign of leaks - if anybody knows what this fault is please post ! i am going to clean out the idle control valve and change the spark plugs next - if i find the fault i will post my findings - Charlie
hi charlie , i had already replace the maf , change all the vaccum hoses and also the ccv values, cleaned the idle control valve and changed spark plug. But all of those action didn't help me.I change the vanos seal also, also no help.
One of a youtube member had told me he had the same problem with me,and he fiound out his problem is cause by the catalytic converter . So ,hope this information is good for you . I didn't fix my car yet, i didn't try to change the muffler, keep update mate!
I find out that the problem only haven't in gear 5th. Because when i use stepronic , the problem will not happen at 1-4 gear , but when i shift up to gear 5th ,and keep it a steady gas ,low rev, then the problem will come up, the rev jump up and down automatic.
have them check the iaac valve if not that the wax sensor that when warms up it melts down car idles fine but if its messed up it does not know where to idle
I have a small problem with my 99 328i. On cold starts (after the warm up period) the rev jumps dwn as if its going to cut out but bounces back. I'm told thats a Vanos problem. How could I fix that? Seals?

I have the same problem with my '01 Hyundai Sonata.
I was told by a garage that it was my TPS.
I was told by the hyundai dealer that it was the MAF sensor.
The analyser code reader said it was the Oxygen sensor.
Another garage said to replace my plugs and wires.
I did replace the oxygen sensor but it did'nt help what was going on.
I am waiting on my wires to some in to replace those so i'll let you know how that goes.
I unplugged my TPS but no change.
update me if you find the answer!
