This really works because I opened my ps3 slim up about a month back because it wasn't reading disk opened it wiped the lens off with a q tip and alcohol let it air dry for a sec then put it back together my ps3 works like new again lol but according to Sony i was suppose to shell out 115 bucks to them so they could do the same thing i just did for free HA jokes on you Sony

I have this problem, my PS3 is not loading blu-ray movies, but when I put Battlefield 3, MW3 and it loads, but when I put Metal Gear 4 it doesn't load. I have to play Battlefiel 3 for a while and when I put MG4 back it loads. Same with movies, I have to load a dvd first, it reads, I have to play at least 5 minutes and the blu-ray movie will load. What could be the problem?

thanks so much for this, but I'm just a little worried about damaging my PS3 by accident. I used a blu-ray disc cleaner on it already, one of those discs with brushes on it and that didn't work, I tried all the other tricks like system restore and stuff, still only reads DVDs and no blu-rays. When I put the blu-ray in the system, it makes some noise like it's about to read the disc, but then it won't even spin. Do you think this is still just a problem with the lens if it's not even spinning?

Well I feel like an idiot. I went through the entire thing and things seemed to go just fine until I realized the top comment said don't do it with a disk in. It was too late and now it won't take a disk. Is there any way I can reset the mechanism to make it work again?

@jimbo571 I fixed my drive so it is now accepting disks again using another video.

Unfortunately it still doesn't seem to want to read any disks. Please let me know if anyone has seen anything else that has worked for them.

O.K, we smoked in front of my PS3 Slim, too much weed...but hardly ever played it since I got it nearly 2 years ago. Plays normal dvds but not blu ray or games, just spins etc...will try this, just hope the weed hasn't killed it(quit that expensive habit now tho!!)

@AminHi Yes mate, just used Meths and the same method on the video and is working fine again. I bought a t-10 Torq screwdriver tho as wanted to keep the original screws on, so fixed for less than a tenner and if happens again, will be no cost. Hope it works for you

Please make sure that's NOT a CD in the drive, when you open it. Otherwise you can throw it in the trash, because you would not be able to insert a disc again!

@JamieLOreilly92 Maybe a lens clean, but unlikely. Worth trying to clean it the lens if you know what your doing. You might probably need a new drive, check and see if your drive still reads DVDs, and what PS3 model do you have? PS, I sell new PS3 blu-ray drives on eBay if you're interested.

Thank you so much dude for this tutorial for disable my system,it was very helpfull since i didn't knew how to open up the disc drive to clean up the lens.Though it was easy to clean it up without removing the upper cover,i also notice some difrences in the cable section that you disconnect to remove the drive from the motherboard,and the cover of the lense was having no cable to open up with caution.Might be the regions on those ps3 that we have.

@MKVILLAIN I suggest buying a new one if you have the old model. I took mine apart and the drive no longer works. It costs about $200 to send yours in for a repair, but they wipe the hard drive and you have to wait 4-6 weeks. If you really love your ps3, then get a new one and use the 'transfer data' option to send ALL DATA from OLD ps3 to New Ps3...works better. I choose to say F**k sony and im getting an xbox 360 (what all my friends have) when they have the bundle deal on black friday...

@SEBB3RS i couldnt eject, check the two white prongs at the back of the lense, they both have springs on them. Make sure they are both still in place, so push them and if the spring then its something else.
