  • The last time I saw "Castrato" it was on my plate in a restaurant near Molinella in Italy. It was delicious !

This Cecilia Bartoli may sing relatively well (certainly not superb) but the "artwork" used for her album is imho rather offensive as far as it may concern "good" taste and or publicity for Italy.

  • @elsspoel What ever is up your butt needs to come out. Enjoy beauty and art, and enjoy the place she is at, and where she has come from La Cenerentola at AGE 20, not the lack you seek to find...

  • that first picture is very fierce. i love it!

  • just got the cd it is very good, even though the cover artwork is a little weird...

  • Is it just me or does she not end up looking like Michael Jackson in the cover picture???

I'm sure i will like the CD anyway.

  • I bought it yesterday. It´s very good.

My ranking of Bartolis best 5 albums:

    1.) Opera Proibita

    2.) The Vivaldi Album

    3.) Sacrificum

    4.) Gluck album

    5.) Maria

That´s what I believe, but maybe Sacrificum will raise a bit...

  • I would rank Opera Probita number one as well, what a wonderful wonderful cd.

  • I pre-ordered this CD and cant wait to hear it in full! It is available on amazon. de by October 2nd for all those who cant wait longer ;-)

  • how much was the total cost for you? in USD?? cuz I live in USA, I figure within the 25 to 30 dollars range?

  • The lowest price that I found in Italy is 17 euro! But in many music store it's about 20 euro

  • She is so adorable...I love this woman.

  • Cecilia's website says releases internationally on October; I read UK releases it for sale on Oct. 2 & Canada on October 6, and for sum reason in the US they pushed from the 13th to Oct.27! I'm ordering it from as an import from canada as it will be the same product: the book with the 2 discs, I also ordered imports AMOUREUSES by PATRCIA PETTIBON & the VIVALDI ARIAS album by MAGDALENA KOZENA :-D

  • @ChaudeB ---> so sehe ich das auch =) !!!

  • ich mag sie, weil sie barockmusik mit seele und temperament singt. nicht wie sonst langweilige und gerade töne, ohne vibrato. ich bin gespannt

  • Not sure about the album artwork, but it sounds great.

  • I definitley agree with you, great music!!

  • How wonderful! This album will not only show off her voice, but also bring to light some of the more neglected songs of the repertory. It is nice to see that she is going to be singing Broschi, regardless of how cliche the idea of Farinelli is now. I think people do not realise how many children were castrated for music, and the unfortunate thing is that not all of them grew up to have sucessful careers.

Isnt it odd though that troughout this video she is saying castratos rather than castrati?

  • Cecilia or Decca or both a marketing genies. Look at the visuals. Beauty and cruelty at once and the results are fascinating! Bravo tutti!

  • Can't wait to hear the new Cecilia album, nobody sings this baroque music like her! She looks beautiful!!!

  • mamma mia cecilia sei la pui brava wowow amore per la bartoli!!!...... this new album have a dvd like maria cd and dvd?? or only 2 music cds????

  • Interesting album. But strong similarities with Claudio Osele's Lava album, just released in Germany. Soprano Simone Kermes sings 12 Neapolitan arias, written for the great castratos like Caffarelli, etc. Nine out of twelve tracks are world premiere recordings.

  • Why do I get so many "red thumbs"? I adore Cecilia and I'm looking forward to the new album. But there ARE similarities with Osele's CD "Lava" (period, composers, Naples, arias all written for castratos, etc.). That's not my fault. Please don't punish the messenger for the message...

  • I kind of agree with you... I love Cecilia (I don't really like Kermes though) but they seem to release the same kind of music at the same time... However, the themes are not exactly the same. Sacrificium deals with the castration itself, while Lava is just one more compilation of baroque arias, without focusing on the castrato theme itself (which is a shame).

  • Going to be another fantastic album!! And that accent in english sends shivers up my spine :-) Bravo Cecilia!!

    South of Franc

  • This album is gonna be the bomb!! Maria was fantastic, but this is gonna be the bomb!!

  • @JaRoWi1647 ---> toller Kommentar!!

    Mille grazie, Signora Bartoli.

  • it's also Sposa non mi conosci i guess^^.....

when you listen carefully you can hear that she is singing this ;)

  • @italy24

---> it's SPOSA, NON MI CONOSCI by Giacomelli... Vivaldi took tjis aria for his opera Bajazet ( Sposa son disprezzata) ;)

  • THANK YOU, her version sounds slower then some of the versions I looked up on youtube. ALSO do you know what she's singing at about 0:12?

  • Anyone know what song she is singing at

    0:45?

  • Great! can't wait! Welcome back in baroque times!!!!

  • Finally, no more bel canto nonsense... I can't wait for this album to come out., but in spite of what she says, I still think the artwork is horrible.

  • I think the artwork is bold and eerie, very very very artistic.

  • Per fortuna che esistono i falsettisti!

  • Poor Italians! Instead of being proud of there best people..! But jealousy is a terrible thing! I like her anyway and all my italian relativs too!

  • only 3.5 stars??? NOT!!!!! I cant wait for this recording, thank u buddy for posting. 5 STARS OF COURSE

  • I love youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • Thanks so much for posting - am with you Lalagonegaga great to see her doing what she does best - and looking amazing too!!

  • She's back to her musical roots! Thank God! I adore her!

  • AGAIN a great succes for La Bartoli!

    Sounds good, cant wait....

  • Her musical roots are Rossini really

  • Not quite. Her Vivaldi album was the first one she recorded out of her own whim, the record company gave her the oportunity as a "gift" for giving them so much profit. Little were they to know that it was that exact same album that was going to be her bestseller up to date. As Ceci herself said "I am a child of the 18th century". Your roots are where your heart is. :)

  • My point is that she started singing Rossini, not baroque music :) And for many years she sang mainly bel canto roles...and mainly Rossini and Mozart.

  • Yes, I am well aware of that, thank you very much...

  • did she record this at Disney Hall? It sounds interesting.

  • Nope, at Delibes in Valladolid...

  • Funny that she says "castratos" & not "castrati."

  • ...and, in a different video I have, "kuh-STRAY-tohz."

  • Great!!!

I hope to hear "Qual guerriero in campo armato"!

  • the most amazing classical album 2009 =)

    love her :-*

I'm eternally grateful that I've got the opportunity to see her live 13th november in cologne !!! =)

  • ENFIN !!!!!!!!!!!! Great Grazie nostra Cecilia !
