@pitbull73 that was a horrible fight, they both claim to be wing chun masters but the fight they had there was 0 wing chun..two idiots fighting like girls on the floor.
@GenghisKhanization No one used Wing-Chun in the fight, and they`re both "masters"? What does that prove? Only that this shit doesn`t work in a real fight. If he could use any of it against Boztepe he would, but it`s worthless crap! He couldn`t fight a paperbag! Go for the leg, as example one, who does that in a streetfight?!! I`ll go for the head, knee, throat or groin. Try any of this shit with a hard ass and he`ll kick the shit out of you! I promise! :)
@pitbull73 yes very true! This is also my believes. I think most of these WCfans never had a real fight to know whats going to happen in reality. And they train hours and hours on pak sao and lapsao and thinking that this will make them survive on the street. For shure somebody who never had one lesson or training would kick their ass with that crapp. I say go learn Boxing and grappling as base. and work from there on to some lowkicks.
Unfortunately you're right for the most part. Most WC people don't work out enough with other styles. Even with my basic kickboxing skills I can catch my classmates sometimes. But WC is great against other styles once the practitioner has learned to apply it. Unless they learn from self-proclaimed World Grandmasters, that is...
@rpierini Well 2 me there are some stuff in WC that are great, but dont just add it as extra to Boxing and Grapplin and maybe you can use it in reality. But training hours and hours all those trappingstuff, if you do this i will do that mentality will get you no where. I believe train Boxing, punching and mobility. Add some kicks. Muay Thai is what I train and some Jiu Jiutsu it will get you much closer to reality. And not forget powertraining.
@minasz Yep I know- WC is an inside style and you have to be REALLY aggressive to pull it off- I mean, you have to get inside as soon as they commit to something, just like Jui Jitsu does. Only instead of getting in and taking down, you just get in and unload and/or keep them off balance.
Youy're right though, you need to have long-range skills as well as ground skills too to be a truly versatile fighter. Personally, I've always been good at grappling and have OK kickboxing skills...
@rpierini im with you on this one hahah. You R close to reality. And thats where i am also. I train practical things and throw out all the BullSizzle. Cuz its really a waste of time. Train simplicity and directness and it will get you somewhere. Grapplin is very important, cuz mostly thats the range most fights will end when there s no direct knock out punch. Streets dont have refferees. But also dont think grappling, but think in hits. Cuz when you grapplin somebody, you grapple also yourself
Single and double leg takedown and the football tackle happen A LOT in real fights kid. I'm guessing YOU never been in a real fight b4 if you think noone will grab your legs in a fight lol
in real fights lads will do anything to win, kick punch, grab even when they have no idea how.Ive seen lots a leg grabs in real fights even though they wernt trained wrestlers.
@anhkhoinguyen yup. you gotta learn a bit of basic grappling at least. When a guy is bigger than you he will most usually think he can throw u around like a rag doll. This shit here looks like non sense. Lean bjj or even judo or aikido. The thing that is very ironic about life, is that smaller people don't realize that if a guy is bigger than you, you have a HUGE advantage if you can grapple. Many martial arts schools don't teach that.
Very true, but only if you survive the initial blow and the distance is closed quickly. Then if you know how to prevent being knocked over easily and hit fast at the most vulnerable targets your ok. If it goes to the ground you have a HUGE advantage, and can tire and manipulate a much bigger enemy, but it's a little time consuming and risky at times (pavement, his friends, broken glass on the flour...)
Besides tape being edited, do you really think a young guy beating up an older man proves that his 'art' is better? Masters always expect their students or even students of other systems,to beat them simply because they R getting older; but they 'Know More', and can still 'Teach' more. Boz can't beat him over&over again,I still find Cheungs system to make more sense. If you like Boz's system & it works for you, fine. Be as good as you can with it, you won't go wrong; same w/GM Cheung students.
Many of W. Cheung's students don't know it but he really upset the WC community in the '80's by not only stating that his was the only pure version of WC, but he was constantly making challenges that nobody could beat him. It was in this atmosphere that the Boztepe challenge match took place.
I heard something to effect of being the one who had special lessons by Yip Man because he use to give respect to Yip Man's prostitute girlfriend & use to join him, but not participate, in the opium dens or something to that effect. Supposedly Yip Man's sons were not on great terms w/Yip Man. I don't think GM Cheung claimed he could be any1, but if he did,it may have been @ a the time when his statement might have been true,& a number of years had gone by the time Boz. apparently attacked him
@rpierini I am not a fan of Master Chueng but in Wing Chun if someone gets you in a bear hug the easiest thing to do is to do a lot of chain punches to the face, this way they will deninately let go, it doesn't matter how strong or big they are.
Seriously though, if a guy bear hugs you his next move will be to pick you up & slam you. A groin strike, head butt, foot stomp, etc. would only be a distraction. Your real defense is to lower your center of gravity & attack his balance, then you can get your hands free.
So many keyboard warriors making comments! Hilarious! Most of you idiots have never been in any tuype of real encounter before so STFU.
BJJ will get RAPED in a real fight by any Judoka or Wrestler. You can't do take downs for shit. And when I Judo throw your head onto concrete, your not gonna have a chance to even get into guard. If only there were some nice soft mats life in UFC right? LOL. BJJ is crappy for the street.
1 vs 1, BJJ is acctualy pretty good for the street. I got first hand experience myself. BJJ for 13 years and i've been in a couple of fights. I'd say Muay Thai is better tho, more direct knocking if one can control it and apply it.
Wrestlers? You do know that wrestling is a fake-martail art?
And no, one does not simply get raped by a Judoka simply cuz its a Judoka.
Wrestlers actually have some great take downs.. I think the more you know, the more you can do. I wouldn't mind knowing them all. Certainly G BJJ would be a bit difficult against more than 1 person, but that's why you learn other arts to
love william cheung. all his training and mastery clearly helped him when bozetepe flattened him :-)
im sure hes a nice old man, but get real. if someone walked to the front of one of my seminars and tried to floor me then theyd be fucking having it good style.
sorry william i think you might have to come and learn some MT with me........
I wish anyone who hasn't knocked out a person in a street fight could not post in a martial arts area. Or choked someone out, or even lost but was at least up against some pressure. William has won and lost(?). Although many techniques taught in schools might not work against martial athletes, if you can apply them against resisting opponents then you havn't wasted your time.
This is dreadful. I've been doing a lot of Cheung bashing on youtube recently and I've got to stop. Its just so addictive... This stuff just won't work. People who go that low to attack are usually rugby players, BJJ practitioners, wrestlers etc - basically people who know what they are doing. If countering it was just a matter of 'stepping back' I think those guys would have figured it out by now...
I fully agree. All respect to cheung. He is not practical.BJJ guy gets hold of you, you finished unless you get your fingers in his eyes or throat before he chokes you out or arm bar or what ever.
EASEDIGEST . I had my own experiance with a guy while watching UFC in Bangkok. This Swed was just out of jail for killing a guy who fell down after he hit him once in the face. I chose to spare with this Muay Thai / BJJ fighter and murderer...nice guy. After 15 solid minutes of sparing this super fit dude could not get me on the floor at Lumpini Park. When a WC guy pushes trees and plays weight shifting and good chi sao...there is only standing fighting for the WC Guy.
@JKDLIFER There are ways on how to anti-grapple without grappling. I do sparring with all kinds of fighters and I have learnt that for grapplers the best thing to do is to stay very low to the ground, this way u got more support from the legs and they cannot lift you up.
@aminul1984 Im a really small guy so sadly that doesn't work for me. What i do is never let them on me. I'm small so naturally im faster than the really big guy. If they do get there hands on me though i do lower my center of gravity. Then it deppends iff its a sport fight then i'll punch or try to throw them off. if its a streed fight i'll bite poke out eyes spit(yes that works) Hit their ears knee them in the groin. A bil gi strait into the eyes socked will totally destroy the eye.
or i guess he just knows how to market wing chun kung fu or just kung fu in general and make it appeal to the western public. even bruce lee said it, there is just a certain things u have to do to teach western students.
