Guillermo Del Torro makes these kinds of movies because when he was little he was scared of the strings coming out of the carpet or however you call it, but anyways, he was scared of that and supposably thought that there were monsters in his closet and was scared of many mythical things.So, as if there was a presance in his room or were he got scared he said "if you leave me alone I promise I'll make scary movies when I grow up."

Nix247, In the movie during the second task did you see the artwork along the Pale Man's room? He killed children and ate them. He also would have killed Ofelia...How is he not evi? Also the Faun explains to Ofelia how she can return to her kingdom and when she does return he is there...She is obviously the protagonist.
