The movie was totally boring. It felt like it went on for 4 hours. 3D doesn't interest me, I am interested in an original story and this was the least original movie I have ever seen.
Those are RealD glasses that you can just pick out of bin that they have outside the cinema auditorium. I picked up pair at the VUE West End last year I think it was? I didnt see a RealD film at the VUE because it didnt interest me.
So I guess
$1million was for 1 D
$2milion for 2D
$3millon for 3D
But why wasnt it mixed in SDDS8 or something beyond Dolby something that has bottom below surround along with height overhead surround?
The money is on the screen so by that you mean the visual half? What film mix did you hear it in? Dolby digital cinema dts SDDS6/8 CDS 70mm six-track Dolby stereo SR magnetic Vitaphone Westrex What sound format was it presented in because Im having are hard to believing your review. Do you have the cinema ticket still?! What loudspeaker system did the cinema have? Did they also have THX and was it the THX 3417 crossover?
Again, this film is exceptionally charming and works so well as a love story and adventure story, that the leftist theological ideas it contains don't suffice to ruin it. Quite an accomplishment.
In several ways the thing is more plausible than past scifi flicks, particularly the starship, and the feel you get for what it would actually take to travel the distance to the nearest other star or any planets around it.
After a week of excitement and an Hour and a half long drive, a Projectionist ruined it for me. i just got done watching the most expensive 3d movie ever (Avatar) and it was HORRIBLE...not the movie, the presentation. i had dead center seats in the top stack. VERY VERY FEW scenes could i force myself to know they were 3d, and during the movie, not 1...NOT ONE!!! scene caused me to think i could reach out and grab something. what i saw tonight, was a high quality blue ray movie in 2d format.
the cgi was great...the picture was incredible. but there was NO depth of field.
i called the theater said i wasnt the only one that complained. they think the convergance (sp?) wasnt set right and that if i wanted i could come see it again for free...but its an hour and a half away so i told them that just making the offer has redeemed them and ill wait for another movie
Totally agree about Saldana! Ironic that the 'real people' parts are flat, but I think that adds to the message that the Na'vi are more 'real' than homo-sapien humanity! "Let yourself be involved" is the best way to put it. Great review!
funny you mention starwars i found the one problem wiht the na'vi characters is that it was a copy of janian race (from starwarsclonewars animated series) blue tribal race catlike or dog like humaniods blue and the culture and what not is a mix of the nightelfs from world of warcraft
i couldnt believe the acting and just the visuals and very much enjoyable...the story is basicaly the same as many but the detail in culture language, teh race, teh world...i can see them doing more with jus teh world i give it a 4 and 4.5 with the 3d
The alien world was incredible - completely involving and realistic. The movie suffers from a predictable story, but I also really enjoyed it... in 3D especially.
I thought it was an amazing movie, though it didn't remind of the invasion of Iraq, but more of the colonization of America. It's pretty much 'We find new land, we want land, people already live there, kill people and claim their land'. That's my only problem with it, it's not very subtle. Same problem I had with District 9, but where D9 was okay, this movie is amazing and one of the best movies of the year.
I agree. Overwhelmingly it is an analogy to the colonization of America, Africa, Australia, etc. especially with the imagery of the aliens on horseback. But Col. Quatritch uses the phrase "fight terror with terror" which was a Bush admin. tactic - I guess that left an impression on me. Thanks for the comment.
You will probably like it. I didn't mean to come off like a film snob, but it's definitely a film you should see in the theater. Good to hear from you.
I always like you're reviews because you guys are very intelligent and know what you're talking about. I would watch you if you had a television show.
@Soundstage8 or you could just do what I do and hide cameras in different areas of their home and just pretend its a tv show. I mean, not do those things.
Man Called Horse, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in The Sky, Heavy Metal, Dune, Star Wars and Willow combined in one, i love it.

AMAZING visuals! The 3D was awesome.
However, the story and writing is very uninteresting and uncreative.
So just.......good! 7/10

Ouch. Sorry you had such a sorry film experience. The 3D was the best part of the movie, take that away and that's half the reason to see it.

I only have to drive 15 minutes to see it in 3d, 5 different theatre choices. Greatness of living in a City. Seeing this at 7:00 tonight, can't wait!
