I personally like the idea of how the offspring deserves to be much powerful. Because it gives the whole predacessor and Upgrade kind of thing into it symbiotes are very interesting beings believe me symbiotes was the best thing that has ever happend in spiderman if i had to choose 3 sym's i would choose

1) Venom

2)Carnage

3)Toxin

Soon after Carnage has it's spawn (Toxic) carnage hated the fact that he was born and wanted to kill it but venom (Being protective of his grandchild) aided toxic to find a host but a kind one who will help combat carnage and defeat it once and for all.. Patrick decided to use it for good.. But the violence made toxin thirst for blood and killing but Instead him and patrick made a deal he keeps toxin as a symbiote of good but in exchange that Toxin gets 3 hours of "PlayTime"

Instead of "We" Like venom and eddie which means venom depended on eddie as much as eddie on venom made the, both decide to be good after a while.. But since carnage is only an "I" well he fucked up cletus badly and wanted to do his own thing.. Symbiotes like that and with that behavior end up eating the host alive which lead to cletus to quick aging process

Venom (Eddie) Soon after becomes a hero as also the symbiote Venom obeyed and decided to aid him in fighting crime and all that therefor he didn't do the whole destroy ur body by rapid aging syndrome if u will .. I think it's how it happend.. It's one thing to be United with a symbiote and another to have a certain bond knowing that the symbiote will not harm u or ur body but instead help it get stronger and cure it when sick.. Carnage is an exception he referred himself as an "I"

SO if cletus gets at least a tiny cut he automatically become Carnage due to the fact that the symbiote and cletus were not only united as one for a very long time but due to the fact that carnage had time to invade his body inside and affect his bloodstream

Carnage=Cletus Cassidy= A psychotic killer who self proclaimed himself killing hundreds of people which is probably true cuz the symbiote found cletus as a suitable host and Cletus having killer instincts and psychotic killing behavior only made the symbiote Carnage more insane and powerful but most of all very unpredictable.. But it came at a price as carnage took cletus body over and cletus began to rapidly age soo.. But then he found out the symbiote was in his bloodstream..
