Raab Park in Poulsbo WA was once a NIKE missile launch site but it is now a park :P. Nothing left unfortunately. My grandfather worked on Trident missiles and NIKE's
@tailspinzz I lived and worked on this site in Redmond from1955 until 1958. While the site was being built we lived at the national guard base out near Kirkland. I spent 20 years in the Army, the 3 I spent at this site was the best of the 20.
I wish! Well, there was a boarded up basement room with a suspicious quarter-sized hole in the thick concrete wall that you could peer into. There is also a small, separate building I couldn't reach because of the brambles in the way.
I'd like to see the site at Olalla, Wa. My Dad was the launching supervisor there from 1961-64 before the site was closed and all the men were moved to Vashon Island.
This is awesome! I wanna check this place out on my day off!! Where exactly in redmond is it? I live over by renton, so not that far away. Theres an old missile silo on cougar mountain but it's all cemented in, theres nothing really to look through. In high school we used to go bring kegs up there and have huge parties lol I love exploring abandoned buildings n stuff, can you message me with the ones that you know about in the area?! man I love exploring! I have an awesome site for it if you wan
@CambioJoe No offence meant, but as an old Nike Hercules crewman on Vashon from Sept, '62 until we turned it over to the ARNG, I just have to say that no Nike Hercules (or for that matter the Ajax) was ever in a silo. They were magazines, also casually called "Pits".
@jlprtr I don't believe I ever called them a silo? The magazines are at a different location on the base. In fact, in an earlier comment I responded "The magazines themselves are not welded shut, but they are completely flooded."
@zephcrow : Sorry for the mis-under standing, zephcrow. If you take another look at my post, it was made in response to CambioJoe, who referred to the magazines as silos.
NICE...very well done!! I was there myself last weekend. At one There was also another abandoned Nike base in Redmond by the Highschool on education hill. Its now being used as a government building. It was a very cool place to explore before it was a government building.
Looks to me, a former Nike Hercules IFC soldier, that the video is of the enlisted barracks. As to the damage....it's amazing how morons destroy and for what purpose. Ah, it's the thrill of it. Oh how I wish the draft was still active so assholes like that can get free room and board for 3 years!
The launch site is just a two minute walk from these buildings. It was very interesting to me, but it wouldn't make for a very good video. The magazines themselves are not welded shut, but they are completely flooded.
Thank you! I'm very curious about these sites and I love to explore places like these to try and figure out new things about them. I wish I had made a longer video, but I was running out of space on my camera for pictures. :(
@kbrusky15 I went to the poulsbo site, there is stuff still there actually.

I remember these NIKE bases when they were operational. NIKE hill in Redmond and another one. I grew up near Marymoor park in the 60's.

Thank you for the suggestion, though. :3
