riding 5 miled above the speedlimit is fine. riding right on the speed limit is being cautious. 5 below you are being annoying. 10 below and you are a hazard
I have to agree with this. Slow drivers who sit UNDER the speed limit are more of a hazard from being too cautious (braking when they don't need to or suddenly turning) or they're not paying attention to the road by looking at their phone or searching for a CD. Just because there's a legal speed for a road dosent mean every driver at that limit is a safe driver. It's best to keep away from any traffic by being way behind it or way ahead of it.
Also I would say that someone going a bit faster than the speed limit is concentrating more than the moron whos brain has shut off because they have reached the speed limit and they think thats all they need to do to be safe.
what ever speed you feel comfortable and dont get out side your comfort zone also could say if your current speed is to fast and your uncomfortable slow down Don't out ride you Experiecne level, kinda meaning newer riders shouldn't be riding 20-30 miles above posted limits ,,,, take your time increse speed and comfort level slowly and in small increments work up to crazy fast stupid speeds (95+mph don't know conversion to kmh) just cause the bike can do them doesn't mean you are ready for them.
I like to weave in my lane after i get through a patch of traffic on the freeway, I get everyone's attention behind me and they wont attempt to pass as much seeing as I am a "crazy ass" and gonna "lose control."
thanks! Great video! i always ride little faster then everybody here in bangkok. i only had little crashes when i try to ride slow, because everybody is telling me to go slower and its safer... but i always felt like nooo mann...go a little quicker than the traffic... and it makes sense now.. thanks!
There is no safe speed! Its only when people ride or drive past they're abilitys it becomes unsafe. An inexperienced rider's safe speed will be a LOT less than one with 10 years experience. The ones that push they're bikes will become better riders in the future if they don't die in the process. The ones that stick to the limit will always be a danger in my eyes
Why has no one mentioned speeding tickets? Do they not exist in America? We get fined $200+ and get points taken off our licence for going more than 3km/ph over the limit in Australia....
I've had people change lanes into me while I'm in the passenger seat of a lifted f-250 XLT diesel. It was a corolla I think, My friend and I didn't see him/her, it was dark they had no lights on and just changed lanes into us, bumped his car into the front wheel of the truck, he slid a little, corrected it and just kept going like nothing ever happened.
"I put in the hours so you kids don't have to." I hit the like button as soon as I heard it! Keep it up 13mordeth, I started riding in August 2010 on a used 2010 Kawi Ninja250r after watching your and shockofgod's vids. I rode it every day here in GA, rain or shine. The videos were all very informative for someone interested in riding. I'm now riding my '07 CBR600RR and loving it every day. Please keep up the good work and ignor the haters.
I've heard the safest speed (for a medium weight bike) according to gyroscopic effect from the wheels vs the instability caused by wind at high speeds etc is 55mph. I'm not sure I fully understand why but some very clever bearded people worked it out. (using science)
Okay, So the speed of traffic on the freeways here in southern California when moving good, is usually about 75-85. Note Speed limit is 65.. If everyone is going 85 and I'm going 95. What are the odds of me being pulled over? How does the law look at "safe riding"?
I've often been applying the "go a little faster technic" and am 90% ok with what u say. The thing is this reasoning is very short term/one point of view. If every one applies this technic it becomes obsolete;
EX: If i see you going past me a little quicker than I am riding and feel I am threatned =
1. Should I apply youre technic and double drive, and engage this never ending circle of doom
Cool, you're in Taiwan. I knew I recognized those "chewing gum" shops. Haha. I stayed there with my Taiwanese friend for a week. I'm not even a rider and I've started watching your videos. I live in Thailand at the moment and I immediately noticed that the drivers in Taiwan are much better than here. Riding a bike here is suicidal.
Hey M13, I would like to make a point. Here in my state in the US (Pennsylvania), the speed limit on the local interstate is 65mph (or was it 60? whatever..) but most of the cars usually do 80+ mph. So, if I were to get a motorcycle (hopefully soon I will) and I were to ride on that interstate I would need to be going about 85-90 mph to be considered riding safely? I'm not trying to be a smart ass (and I apologize if i came across as one) but to me it just seems like doing 85 on a bike is unsafe
@xXUSMCGRIFFXx Your comment is valid. The advice in this video is pretty much aimed at when riding in traffic (inner city or interstate when busy). I'm guessing on the interstate when people are doing 80mph there are VERY large spaces between the cars. So the advice in this video would be moot in that case.
@13mordeth Yes, there are larger spaces between cars at least here in Pennsylvania on the interstate. I can only assume for other states. Also to my experience they do alot faster than 80-90. Last time I was on one, I drove up with my dad to visit a college and we were doing 100 ish the whole way and we were being passed left and right.
@SgtB0YR13 Well hey, good luck. I'm not actually in the USMC, I'm ineligible due to arthritis in my knees (at 17 freaking years old). If you are going to ask why my name has USMC then (as most other do) it is because I have a very great deal of respect and fascination for the corps. Not trying to be rude, but most of the time when I get that question people badger me because I'm not "In the Marines" and it's like a sin to have "USMC" in my usernames.
@xXUSMCGRIFFXx I am right there with you. Everyone takes I-40 where I live. Which should be 60mph but everyone likes to go 80mph. We got diesel trucks and... yeah.

@13mordeth "I've got 28 years of riding 365 days a year...you got any more advice for me?"
you idiot. you total and utter idiot. where to start? learn to keep a line. stop putting your helmet between your clutch and your throttle. stop saying 'i locked up the front wheel' wheelHURDUR' when you go into a corner too quickly and grab both brakes and your clutch.
you are a wonder to human-kind. how you've not been killed/killed yourself will forever remain a mystery. you are a very poor example.
@13mordeth you ride for 28 years and dont wear gloves? even if it was in a introduction video? sry, but i drive for 2 years and knew since the first day what to wear while drivin...
Moreover, everybody should move at the same speed, but here that´s impossible. The old woman or the couple with the two kids will be (normally) slow, others will move just at random speed, in a random direction...
I´m watching to some videos after a stupid ride from Taipei to somewhere in the north coast. I say stupid, because apart from the annoying rain, scooters riders here are terrible. People want to die in the most stupid way, showing off how much they can run and sneak with their scooters. I agree that SOMETIMES to ride slightly faster than average around you is safer than to go slow/same speed, but this is not always true. A blue van (or a car) will overtake by left and fuck you off...
When driving a car I hate it when a motor cycle paces me and worst off stays on my blind spot, and nothing pisses me off more than a motorcycle that goes slow specially from a red light. He's totally right, when I ride a motor cycle I'm always going faster than all the cars, not insanely faster just about 5 to 10 km/h, the real safety concern of riding is being noticed.

@prinzeugen And that's exactly why your videos don't get many views. Any rider can upload a video of him JUST riding. But thanks for calling my vids "BS" regardless.
Thanks for the info, cool vid. Yeah I'll agree with young people not reading nowadays. Asked a few high schools students who didn't know who Eager Allen Poe and the Grimm Brothers were. Sad very sad. ( getting off topic) :) LOL!
Hey, I've been out of school for a few years now, but I'm still in my mid 20's, and I've never heard of Eager either. Must be Edgars coke-addicted, sexually promiscuous brother? Eager Allen and Edgar Allan, the poetic brothers of fame!
Rideing your bike to the point where you are in controle of the bike while driving in your suroudings your safe ...if you want to be super safe and never put yourself i a positioning to get hurt while riding ....stay home..
At 2:20 you make a mistake. You can not pass over the right of the stoped car, at least in my Country (Uruguay). And to the speed limit going to slow will keep you more time looking at the mirrors than the road.
@Headroom1001 your still going faster than him, so it's easier to get out of the way. What if u are just pacing him? then you must accelerate ,or brake hard, in which case its you would have to do this all of the sudden and would need time to react, then wait for the acceleration (or braking) to take effect. so going a bit fast, yes, still safer.
@enemay if your in front, and let him get close enough to rear end you... more fool you and you deserve to be in a hospital... For fucks sake, if you KICK someones door in, you don't "do the speed limit" after. You get the fuck out of there before he can get your plate (or at least try)... You don't wait for him to 'gun it' and hit you... Moron's are everywhere! Carry spark plugs if you don't want to kick :)
Guy at 4:05 looks retarded to me. I drive like crazy and some times I curse myself that wow! u were damn lucky that car or bike did not touch your bike. I agree with him cuz I always do slightly or sometimes extraordinary more than the limit. but I always drive safe with Helmet!. besides luck also count as an engineer at my work had an accident cuz he was driving at 20Km/h and had a major brain syrgery costing $9000+ U.S and his helmet smashed into pieces.
can't agree with you. If you are travelling at a different speed to those around you then you have to interact with more traffic - that involves risk. you are safest the further away from an accident you can keep. Riding along side, near or manoeuvring cars and bikes is dumb. Travelling slightly faster into junctions or bends isn't called for either. principally you were safest at 5:15 than say 5:17 and as you say if you use your mirrors to make sure no-one sneaks up on you in the meantime
dude, its just my imagination or most people in that city ride scooters? :O would you recommend a scooter over a semiautomatic motorcycle like the Yamaha Crypton for a begginer?
@SalchichaPolaca Here's the answer from a taiwanese, yes we have ton's of scooter and way less bikes. It's because not every family have cars here so scooter is very useful when you buying things/moving around plus Taiwan has higher population density than most other places in the world so the city is overcworded and we have lots of road cross and traffic lights. For normal ppl it's easier to rider scooter rather than bike to do the stop/go cycling on the road. Hope this helps

If you can't stop in that distance then you are just trusting to luck

Pedestrians mixed with scooters, cars, no sidewalks, bad pavement, lack of public lights, noise.

Thanks for the info, cool vid. Yeah I'll agree with young people not reading nowadays. Asked a few high schools students who didn't know who Eager Allen Poe and the Grimm Brothers were. Sad very sad. ( getting off topic) :) LOL!

@cazurhellen83
Hey, I've been out of school for a few years now, but I'm still in my mid 20's, and I've never heard of Eager either. Must be Edgars coke-addicted, sexually promiscuous brother? Eager Allen and Edgar Allan, the poetic brothers of fame!

Rideing your bike to the point where you are in controle of the bike while driving in your suroudings your safe ...if you want to be super safe and never put yourself i a positioning to get hurt while riding ....stay home..
ding0925 2 months ago
At 2:20 you make a mistake. You can not pass over the right of the stoped car, at least in my Country (Uruguay). And to the speed limit going to slow will keep you more time looking at the mirrors than the road.
retroluminico 2 months ago
@retroluminico in theory you're right, but riders in Taiwan just don't give a shit, that's why some many accident happens here
chiang0809466 2 months ago
What if the car driver change lanes WHILE you're passing him.
Headroom1001 2 months ago 13
@Headroom1001 your still going faster than him, so it's easier to get out of the way. What if u are just pacing him? then you must accelerate ,or brake hard, in which case its you would have to do this all of the sudden and would need time to react, then wait for the acceleration (or braking) to take effect. so going a bit fast, yes, still safer.
Taiwanhiphop 2 months ago
@Headroom1001 You get out of his way, then kick his door in!
dfgiuy22 2 months ago
@dfgiuy22 Then he guns it and bumps you on your rear tire, you fall off and get run over by a truck, sad.
enemay 1 month ago

Lin921014 2 months ago
can't agree with you.

SalchichaPolaca 3 months ago
@SalchichaPolaca Here's the answer from a taiwanese, yes we have ton's of scooter and way less bikes. It's because not every family have cars here so scooter is very useful when you buying things/moving around plus Taiwan has higher population density than most other places in the world so the city is overcworded and we have lots of road cross and traffic lights. For normal ppl it's easier to rider scooter rather than bike to do the stop/go cycling on the road. Hope this helps
shinya1215 2 months ago
@shinya1215 yes thanks a lot, I guess there is not so much traffic in my city, so I will purchase a semi-automatic one then :)
SalchichaPolaca 2 months ago
@SalchichaPolaca Sure, bike is way more fun than scooter. I fully enjoyed my RS250 when I was in Singapore/M'sia. Ride safe and have fun too mate!
