OK GUYS.. first of all the technowledgy these days are so ledgit that all these bikes are like the same thing now... 20 years ago yes they were totally different from each other.. i ride a yamaha wr250f 09... and that thing rides really great.. honda feels like the same thing... they have like the same torque palis... and they go about the same speeds...they both have style and the looks... the onely thing i noticed about yamaha is that there technowledy is up to date for instence: the tripmeter

i agree, i think the only difference maybe the gearing ratios. like on the honda 3rd gear might be a little taller than on the yamaha, but i dont know, its just the matter of personal prefrance. but hondas better : )

It all depends on your riding experience, where you ride, and your riding style. If you're a conservative rider in wide open areas, you can probably handle it. If you're one that likes to push the limits or if this is your first dirt bike experience all together, definitely not.. I switched to the Honda 450 after owning a Z400 for several years and never had any problems.

If you're more of a general beginner, DEFINITELY choose a 250F, then work your way up.

You won't be disappointed with a Honda. They aren't the highest quality bike out there, but they are affordable, drop dead reliable and durable, and there is a good lineup of models for most any rider. At your height and weight, I would recommend an XR 650, but if you want to ride tight technical stuff, the 450 would suit you better with some suspension mods.

Yeh i have the 06 450x with megabomb header and fmf carbon fiber muffler, airbox mods, i also put an r cam in it and ported it out, board it out to a 525 and now it rips. im only 15 and weigh 145 so its crazy with me on it!!!

It's not built foe street, but I did get a dual sport kit for my '06,and it does just fine. If you go that route try lowering the gears a bit so you can cruise without winding it up too much. It is fun to blow away everyone at a green light too...

Weight is the only problem with electric start. 30# on the 250. I love the X models because when you crash you're not kicking the piss out of it. I like the handling and the skinny feeling of the R model though.
