I remember this confusing me back in the day. Heard of Action Force, heard of GI Joe. Had an Action Force tape, had a cartoon compilation tape with an ep of GI Joe. Thought at the time one series took place after the other.
cool toys, recently went on ebay and was suprised at how many i remembered i had. As for the Joe Vs Action Force debate, get a life, its a name change, thats it, they didnt give the Joes english accents, have them drive on the left and stop for tea, your bashing your own cartoon over a friggin theme tune that was borderline bland at best. If you think your entire show is based soley on the name then your obviously not getting what the show was about.
@rapiddominace you need to understand why its call Action Force and its not EURO its the British, in France it was called G.I.Joe
Action Force was a well know brand before the G.I.Joe and since Hasbro bought the right later they change the name to Action Force because the brand was already well market in the country.
oh excellent info mate now i know and knowing is half the battle!!lol
I think it was a great move why change it right i bet all those went craze when they saw the new action force figures!!!
one of my friends is British he got so happy when i show him the commercial he said every one new they where G.I. joes but called action force..I dont see anything wrong with this move lol they probably save so much money imagine trying to start g.u. joe from scratch it would had cost millions dollars!
@nords Hasbro changed the name back in the 60's to Action Man (Action Force for other lines like the G I Joe Real American Hero line) as G I's are part of the US army, and not from any part of Europe.
@David315842 Sorry my mistake, Palitoy changed the name. Hasbro did buy back European distribution rights for the Real American Hero line in the 80's, but continued to use the all ready established Action Force name.
I had action force stuff before cobra, all the figures were from British Army regiments, Paratroopers, SAS etc, the bad guy was called Baron Ironblood I think who flew about in a giant skull!
UK version? What did it fire? Tea and crumpets? Proper etiquette and superior linguistic skills? "We'll get those Cobra blokes! Lets wear them down with our power of conversation and defeat them by making them feel inferior mentally and socially!" Just kidding UK people.......
@kbain78 Yep, those were the days. I remember when I got my first GI Joe vehicle for X-Mass, the Bridge Layer, and some time later my GI Joe Headquarters play set. Nowadays I walk through a toy store, and what do I see the kids of today play with? A stupid ever smiling doll in a clean cut surfer outfit that makes Ken from Barbie look like a bad ass Cobra assassin: It goes by the name of Max Steel.
@nonh1 man, i know this is from an old post, but the bridge layer was my first vehicle too, that makes you an official bad ass in my book already man! lol. I loved that tank.
Damn we had some friggin' ace toys as kids!not like all this politically correct crap kids get to play with these days!boys want to play with a bloody great big tank covered in guns, not bob the builder rubbish!or at least our generation did...
Hell YEAH! My mum got me a Cobra Rattler along with a TomaHawk Helicopter and Cobra Wolf for Christmas 1988, she forgot to give me the Rattler and I got it in January '89 as an 'early birthday' present.....my birthdays in March but what the hell! ACTION FORCE-darn cool toyline....!
I loved the old action force adverts that made it seem like a comic book in live action with the toys.

"National Hero!" "Action Force!" Wow. They should have just stuck with, "A Real American Hero," and put up with the derision abroad.

Did "Action Force" sets have different decals for the vehicles, than, G.I. Joe?
wilakt4fud 1 year ago
@wilakt4fud Yeah
Eviltot 1 year ago
@wilakt4fud The G.I.Joe logos were, of course, replaced with Action Force logos.
The United States logos were generally replaced with the tri color with a star in it, or sometimes
more Action Force logos.

@nords Why "British" is not "Euro"? I thought Britain was part of Europe. It became a new mini continent or what?

screw action force and their unoriginal UK minds for corrupting the ultimate 1980's action figure, G. I. Joe.

It was changed to 'Action Force' for the European market in the 80's to make it sound less American.

I always wished that Hasbro made Action Force a U.N. G.I.Joe team like the U.S.S.R.'s October Guard !

I love how they refer to the figures that come included with the vehicles "Driver" and "Pilot", rather than their proper name.
