How do they coordinate the power between two steam locomotives?

@ricksclick There is a crew in each and they communicate by radio and whistle signals. In this case either locomotive could pull the train by itself, so mainly its just an issue of matching speed.

I'd considered that. I do have a model of 844 in HO. My dad used to have a model of 4449, but the drive died. Might have to get a new one.
