I have to agree, the flow just doesn't fit together like it should with the chords. BUT. The song does show some of the thoughts a soldier probably would feel. He wouldn't have time to draw out forty two lines of poetry on the battlfield just a few things he'd want to say to his kids. Good way to capture the emotion:D
