Greatest series on HBO then the Sopranos. Where the heck is Deadwood 4 man. I have watched the series I bet 20 times on my DVD's I love it. I never get tired of it. It is so enriched with dialogue that each time you hear something you didn't the time before. But the actors and actresses were at the best I have ever seen any of them on no other film. This was a kennel of talent and it will go down in history you want and see. But where is Deadwood 4 come on. Ian you look best with the mustache.
why compare deadwood to the sopranos. the acting is top notch on both,. the dialogue is great on both. These two shows along with the wire are the best shows ever on television.
hbo cancelled deadwood because the viewership was down, the show was very expensive to produce and they thought the third season was an absolute mess. three pretty good reasons
A tribute to Deadwood is the fact that it was a Western that didn't need gunfights to get our attention! Some of the best written characters and dialogue we're ever going to see on TV!
There's only one word for those who cut this show: _____________!
I do want them to make more seasons, not because I hated the ending, but because I just want more episodes. Sure when I first saw it, the ending made me want to shoot somebody out of disappointment, but upon reflection I really admire it as a brilliant ending.
As for the final episode, I dont believe Swearinger actually killed the whore..Bullock and Udder would not have stood for that shit..I think swearinger got his theatre friend to make her up to look like her throat was cut and kept some of the other characters(maddie and farnum ect.) in the dark about it.
Part 2 of comments - The true hero of the stories - in my view - was Doc. His heartbreaking conversation with God - in a superb monologue - has been repeated by all of us, in some form or another during moments of anguish. And yet he firmly stated to the barbaric and cruel Al that he " does not answer to the spiritual states " of people.
Lastly - trying to appear decent and proper - Seth and Alma abandoned their love for each other and entered loveless marriages. Deadwood appeared doomed.
My favorite scene in Deadwood was the part where the reverend Smith, initially displaying the symptoms of the brain tumor that would finally consume him - appeared at the store of Seth and Sol, confused and trying to remember WHO they were. Seth and Sol reminded him - after which Seth asked the reverend if they may walk him back to his tent. The minister then said " An evening stroll with friends - I would so enjoy that."
I wept - for the message, the writing and the acting of all 3 men.
I can't believe this series didn't do anything for them... I have to admit, I'd caught glimses of the show when it aired and I wasn't all that interested. But, once I actually sat down and started watching it from the beginning, I came to realize how great of a show it was. The characters were great and the dialogue was awesome. They really should have finished this one up at least.
David Milch (Deadwood's creator) had already given up on the show during it's third season to make and develop "John From Cincinnati". That and HBO, in it's grand cheapness, couldn't afford to do the show anymore (from what I heard, it was either Rome season 2, or Deadwood season 4.)
So basically an undriven show runner and frugal cable channel is what did Deadwood in.
@Louis69 there are still some good shows on there. How to Make it in America, Treme, the Pacific...but i completely understand your perspective. The Wire, Sopranos, and Deadwood were all truly ground breaking shows. HBO set the bar so high with them that it is impossible to compete, even with itself.
I loved the 1st season, really enjoyed the second, and was yawning by the 3rd. What a great show, but when the original writer left, it went down hill.
great, now i'm cryin like a baby...had alot to drink tonite and fuck it i'm cryin, been a while anyway's since ive shed a tear over anything.....
deadwood was my favorite program on telivision ever, never missed an episode
liked it better than my favorite western movies...the good the bad and the ugly and once upon a time in the west- thats how good it was, it was better cause it was longer a saga so to speak movies end . then this did too..so sad to watch it over and over with no-more
HBO is coming up with terrible shows. True Blood is a joke.HBO needs to realize and understand that shows such as The Sopranos,Deadwood,Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Entourage do so well is because 1. they are well written 2. they have terrific actors/actresses,and 3. and they have a witty, mature, intelligent, raw sense about them. True Blood and other new shows on HBO on demand are trash. If HBO created new Deadwood shows, they would make a ton of money.Hi my name is bobby, and im addicted to DeadwoodHA
First the we got screwed with the way they ended the Sopranos and now .. just dropping Deadwood. HBO is getting quite a reputation...and not a good one. I am seriously considering dropping my subscription after this. I don't want to get wrapped up in another series just to have it dissapear like Deadwood.....
id sign it in my blood.i loved that show.why did they stop???it was my all time favorite.ian mcshane was mesmerizing.really the whole cast was awesome.
we need more deadwood...........now

She wasn't what I planed on,not what I had thought would really do the trick for me,
but once I started to notice how she moved and spoke;the rest became pure artistry
She's vulgar, harsh and in your face;& will kick you in the balls when your not looking,
sometimes she stinks & makes me want to retch;but I'm still interested in what she's cooking
When she left,I though about her & hoped she'd come back someday
Guess ya got to learn to enjoy the moment;cause they all soon just go away

I'd love it. "Rome" as well. Though I'll wish they'd find a way to bring Whitney Ellsworth back.
...While I'm at it, a way to kill Hearst slowly...But I suppose I may as well wish for a pony as get any of it.

I hated the ending with a passion. It was incomplete and justice was not served. I say we bocott HBO until the show is given a proper ending.

HBO would not pay to keep the actors on retainer, while Milch took his time writing the third season.
I believe that is what I heard David Milch say.
