  • i miss having sammy and michael there. too bad ed's drinking and drugs got in the way of a bad decision to keep things going.

  • THIS IS VAN HALEN...NOT TATOO!!!

  • This is VH at the top of their game. Anyone who disagrees is full of shit. To see the crowd reaction when the show comes back from the break and they are still playing "JUMP" is priceless. You will never see that with another group on Letterman.

  • @michaeltoddprater You are SO right, bro! You just do NOT get that kind of crowd energy or excitement with any other rock band in the world. Anybody who has been to a Van Halen concert has seen how the ENTIRE crowd — from the front row-stage to the nosebleed are on their feet and TOTALLY into the music. Basically, just having a LOT of fun.

  • nice song on the stage!

  • Looks like Eddie was diggin' it

  • Sammy committing lyrical felonies !!!

  • @racer500gp "You go to poetry jail for that. You get your poetic license revoked. Moon in June--That's a felony. Put your hands in the air like you just don't care--That's habitual criminal, you get LIFE!!"--DLR

  • @olio8773 You got it !!! DLR forever.

  • amazing

  • I love Eddie VanHalen and that smile of his.

  • @Micheleb4 Yeah, back before he looked like a 70 year old woman like he does now.

  • I love this song...

  • Growing up I was such a huge VH fan and since then I would often wonder, "is it cool that I only have the albums up through 5150?", but then I watch this and figure, "yeah, I'm good"

  • ..Perfection...

  • would i fire this guy, no. everyone makes mistakes.

  • the guitar is out of tune.

  • Van Halen sold more albums and made the most money during the Sammy Hagar years. They were a power house! Dumbest thing they could have ever done was to toss Sammy to the curb. Oh, yeah, look at what they're doing now! Eddie, you're a dumb ass........

  • @bermripper You're right. But I think Sammy was ready to leave.

  • eddie can play on a piano?! what this guy cant do?! eddie is the best!!!!

  • @nivkingniv C'mon man... Besides he's being one of the best guitar players ever, he's more known from his keyboard/pianos "riffs" than the guitar ones... (like Jump, this one, Right Now)

  • this is shite

  • This band matured, it was great to have their early youthful material, but it is also nice to see that when they grew up they

    played "age-appropriate" music, too.

  • @DontPanic6X7 My brother always criticized Hagar because they started doing "love" songs once he joined. No, they just grew up!

  • Comment removed

  • @centerforce2 "Growing up" has nothing to do with it. What is "age appropriate" music anyway? You hit a certain age and you have to start liking different music? That is just a ridiculous statement. They had a different frontman and went in a totally different direction musically. That's all.

  • @olio8773 Eddie said he wrote most of Van Halen's songs, so I don't think the type of music they played would change that much when Hagar joined. Eddie was a married man with a son, that will definitely change the kid of songs you write. It really is not a ridiculous statement.

  • @centerforce2 *Kind of songs.

  • Wow, and thats why I have seen Van Halen 9 times in concert. Outstanding, outstanding, outstanding. Everyone is intitled to there point of view. However, Eddie can sure play the fuck out of a guitar. He sure has a God given gift.

  • @12thstreetgypsysbass Yessir!!! He surely has. . . .

  • This is Van Garbage! Christopher Cross would listen to this and call it pussy music. Sammy SUCKS!

  • nice mix on this recording

  • cherone, who??

  • @walkacrossgeorgia Cherone is good ...It's just that he gets to carried away..

  • Van Halen was in your face BAD ASS with Roth, With Hagar I think they got better musically. Cherone sucked!

  • Love that guitar solo!!

  • I like bricks.

  • Peace to Jerry Garcia!

  • Blonde Adam Sandler shouldn't be with Van Halen. Smh.

  • Yust great

  • Come Back Sammy!

  • Sammy ROCKS

  • Eddie looks like a homeless ex soccer player here..

  • Michael Anthony*s vocals helped make VAN HALEN..Even Eddie has said so!

  • Does anyone else get a sense of "ballad" from this song? fuckin rocks

  • @Schusnap The best way to judge whether Eddie is sober or not is his hair, when he was sober he generally had short hair, here he was sober but he went back on the bottle just before Sammy left. Sammy says it was one of the reasons he left the band - the fact that Eddie isn't a great guy when he was drinking, he's sober now again though thankfully

He looks great here too, and he doesnt look so great in the videos for Van Halen III, and its only 3 years later

  • Always wanted to learn how to play this van halen song on guitar

  • Ed always has a smile on his face. Ok mybe not always but a lot of the time. By far the best guitar player hands down. Can you think of one better?

  • love this song~~~

    Sammy hagar with vh Rocks!!!

  • great voice!

  • don't tell me Sammy at around 5:22 is trying to jump like DLR ?!

  • @drinfothv The rapist was Sammy Hagar. :O

  • Peace to Jerry Garcia, well said Sammy and Van Halen. Great guys and great band no matter who sings Ill always love their music

  • LOL, "there you go, alright , so, who knew Eddie could play guitar..."

  • I loved that fucking solo.

  • WOW!!! this brings me back!! remember good music..it died around 98 or so!!!!

  • Eu amo essa Banda,,,,sme palavras para descreve-los.

  • does anyone notice that Eddie in this video looks like he did in 2007

  • @TheTaco1995 Yup. After he cut his hair in the mid 90s he grw it back and looked like he did in the 80s. Then in mid 2000 he did the same thing. When he's clean cut, he's sobber.

  • Sammy is awesome. I love what he brought to the band.

  • The real issue here is that the current Van Halen is without Michael Anthony, who in my opinion, is an even more important piece to the band. Whether it was Roth or Hagar, Michael Anthony's backup vocals are a vital part of the band.

  • @HoyMadapakaX Yes i very much agree..... very important piece missing now...

  • I've seen every version of the band and I thought Gary Cherone did a great job. While I didn't care for the songwriting of the Sammy era, Sammy was a good showman. Saw him climb the lighting trusses without a safety line. Still...Dave is the man.

  • For those that say this sucks because of Sammy, don't know a damn thing about VH. Everyone knows that Eddie wrote all their music. Sammy got stuck with writing the lyrics. Your not going to write "On Fire" lyrics to this music. Sammy is much better live any day of the week over DLR!!!

  • @PTRShooter Sammy "got stuck" writing the lyrics? Everyone knows Eddie writes the music, and leaves the lyrics to the person who's going to be singing them. The reason people jump on Sammy is his lyrics are found wanting. Eddie never had a great lyricist. If you think this music sucks, because of Eddie, you're the one that doesn't know a damn thing ! The solo is a masterpiece, and deserves better lyrics, and vocals, to the verses. "You're not going to write great lyrics to this" is just BS.

  • @leirbagpeter Peter read my post again dude. I never said I didn't like this song. IMO it's a great song: solo, lyrics everything. My comment was for those that think Sammy destroyed VH, and using this song as an example. You say you can't write great lyrics to this, and that because of the solo this deserves better lyrics and vocals?? At least Sammy can remember the damn lyrics, unlike Diamond Dave. Eddie doesn't even give a damn about the lyrics. Do your homework!!

  • @PTRShooter Nice comeback. Too bad you didn't understand my comment, and replied to what you interpreted....First; I never said you didn't like this song, either. Second; You're the one who says you can't write great lyrics to this, and i disagreed. I'm not overwhelmed by any singer Van Halen has had. I'm less impressed with the lyrics...Saying Eddie doesn't give a damn about the lyrics is like saying Mozart didn't care what the violins were doing.

  • @PTRShooter continued-...That said, I do think Sammy was a decent replacement, and Dave did screw up, on occasion. Having seen both numerous times, I enjoyed Dave every bit as much as Sammy. Last tour, Dave was much less a ringleader, and it definitely improved the show. He doesn't go with the squeal hardly at all. Hagar is what he is. He had a few "great" lyric songs, like Right Now, great concept, and Don't Tell Me What Love Can do, which Eddie changed, from Sammy's Let Me Show You...

  • @ExpensiveSnow My response was to leirbadpeter not you ExpensiveSnow, but I am a VH fan whether it's DLR or Sammy. I even own EVH Ernie Ball Guitar and his pedals. By the way my comment about Eddie not caring about lyrics came directly from an interview Eddie did. Cant remember which of the thousands though. Regardless, my favorite VH albums are VH1, VH2, Diver Down, Fair Warning, F.U.C.K. and Balance. Turn it UP!!

  • i agrre with you ED...its just a voice...but then its just a guitar...cant wait for your new shit...millions of fans will buy it

  • Hey, guess what? Dave, Sammy...you don't have to choose! I love them both!

  • Van Halen doesn't need Hagar...and Hagar doesn't need Van Halen.Hagar does just fine without them.

Van Halen does need Roth though...and Roth needs Van Halen.both are lost without the other..case closed.

    (bring back Mikey!!!!)

  • Actually if you call your self a true Van Halen fan, your in it for the Van Halen composition, the way they write and play their material. Dave, Sammy and gary too to a lesser extent, each complimented Ed's writing style. Personally I favor Dave but by just a hair over Sammy. Balanced was awesome stuff.

  • The solo is amazing.

  • hagar is the best!!!!!

  • """Van F'N hAGAR""

  • ""F yeah"" Always always be a fan of Van Hagar! ! !

  • 77 people haven't listen enough Van Halen!

  • C'mon Cherone is an awesome singer! maybe he was not VH material but you can't deny he rocked hard in Extreme.

Also check the josephina acoustic version and then complain.

VH is one of those bands in which the music is so good that it doesn't matter who sings. Roth, Cherone and specially Hagar, they all kick ass

  • awesome solo Ed!

  • i like all eras of VanHalen

  • Classic Van Halen is obviously the best nothing will ever be greater, but i actually enjoy this, no its not the same but its still good

  • amazing solo eddie

  • beautifull solo eddie

  • I know Van Halen with Roth was awesome, but this video shows they still rocked with Hagar.

  • You can have your Roth!! you must like a circus!! I like a band cause they can jam and frankly VH has done nothing since they kicked Sammy out.

Yeah I'm sure Dave is great....Eddie, Alex and Mike made that band and hid Dave's sorry voice.

  • Roth can't sing!! you must like a circus!!

  • ONE M0:00RE TIME!

  • To each their own...I prefer the Hagar era, but I don't hate Roth. Please, just enjoy Van Halen, no matter what era.

  • The Balance album had great guitar work, along with the rythym section. This solo is brilliant. What Van Halen always lacked was a great lyricist. Maybe that's why Eddie kept dumping them. can't say I blame him.

  • if we could go back in time and show the 1978 Ed this, I wonder what he'd think?

  • yups,, this is the most beatiful song ever written....!!

  • Real fans love Van Halen no matter who sings. As long as it's not Gary Cherone. Good lord, fuck that guy.

  • @prodigy372 yeae. that was a pretty bad album. It didnt even sound like van halen. I dont understand how alex liked that shit.

  • @prodigy372 did eddie even put out an album w/cherone singing??

  • @globemaster68 Yeah, Van Halen III.

  • @prodigy372

Gary is the best singer i've ever heard

  • @prodigy372 count me out then, van hagar suck

  • @prodigy372 listen to extreme. the original band of Gary. hes awesome there.

Van halen rocks, but Extreme too

  • @prodigy372 he tried, believe me. always ed's fault

  • 66 people know nothing.

  • Wow that really sucked. I will take any track off of Van Halen 1 or 2 or 1984 over this crap. Solo Hagar was pretty good but they became a very ordinary band when Roth left.

  • @robc935 Leave..

  • Hagar elevated the Van Halen sound to a new level and Eddie went with it as well. Some of rocks best stuff was coop'd by both. David Lee Roth was a rock side show, this stuff rocked.

  • Awesome..Only thing that would make it better is...DAVID LEE ROTH....

  • Roth is the soul of Van Halen. If you doubt that just watch this video one time. F'ing pitiful!

  • @pixelvisions Hagar all the way.

  • Read Sammy's book. You'll change your mind.

  • @pixelvisions Are you fucking kidding me Dude your're not a VH Fan at all Sammy And Roth both brought awesome shit to VH Sammy is more Mellow and not all about himself like Roth is Roth goes over board alot of the time with shit he does as the front man for VH They are both awesome don't get me wrong i am a VH Fan forever and always

  • @gr81muffers Periods are your friend.

  • @pixelvisions

So you think that a good song or good song well performed is about monkeying around the stage and doing martial arts moves (which is Roth was doing all the time...) ? Just give me the audio and he can keep his gay moves.

  • 2 grandi

  • ditto on the overprocessed sound

  • Very processed sounding guitar here.. and way too loud. I honestly just didn't dig it.

  • ...my point being, hagar makes them sound like a bar band. i know it brought them more "success" in terms of money and industry hits...and possibly even more ppl liked this crap, but these songs are so lame. over done. well produced, but lame. (just my opinion)

  • Overall... I think the Van Halen brothers and bassist did extremely well with the first two singers, Roth and Hagar. Even though its just one video, its damn good one, Van Halen Live with out a net. The band with Sammy Hagar did very well. There were no spot light issues with the cameras. They just play their ass off. Eddie also plays keyboard in some songs which I heard critics complained about keyboard. This just shows Eddies incredible musical creativity is ongoing.

  • The best TV performance EVER...I have to watch this vid about once a month...makes you wonder what could've been from '96 to now, though...imagine 2, 3, 4 more VH albums with this lineup...stay dry, Eddie...

  • Van Halen the Styx years

  • @kevinocooldaddy Is that a slam? VH rocked just as hard in '95 as ever...Balance has some great hard rock tunes, and even some of the ballads have great riffs. Actually, Styx rocked when they let Tommy Shaw write and sing and left Dennis Deyoung in the background...with Tommy you got Renegade, with Dennis you got Lady...

  • this song didnt come out until BALANCE?!?!?!? this is one of my favorite VH songs ever!!!!

  • hagar blows...bar band era

  • @shaggyplanet actually it was the other way around....van halen was playing in bars with Roth when they started....big sold out stadiums with Hagar....and now with their solo careers and touring....Roth is still in little bars and crappy clubs while Sammy get the big stadiums....

  • @naguitarhero They had success with both singers, but the last thing Roth did was a stadium tour with Van Halen. Far from playing in little bars and crappy clubs.

  • @justfine77777 oh i know im a big van halen fan. i love van halen with all three singers : Roth, Hagar, and Cherone. that guy was just trying to put down van halen with hagar by saying they were the equivalent to "a bar band"......which i was just saying if you can call any era of van halen a "bar band" it would be with roth because thats how they started.

  • NEVER WOULD HAVE KNOWN THEY DID NOT GET ALONG ANYMORE....

  • yes yes yes beautiful from start to finish

  • The day everyone figures out what this song actually means.... is the day that we become a better race <3

  • man, this always made me cry.

  • what a lucky ass crowd

  • Dave had nothing but smiles introducing these guys. He could just kick back and enjoy good stuff. Obviously, Hes only had Eddie and the group on his show multiple times over the years.

  • Van Hagar started out like a frickin' freightrain and then slowly turned into top 40 mush peddler's.

  • This solo shows that the saying "it's not what you play it's how you play it" is totally true.

  • My favorite EVH guitar solo... so much power and feeling in this one.

  • This is, if not the first, the only live performance on TV that I've heard that sounds exactly the same as the cd. Very FINE performance by the band!

  • garbage, wtf, this isn't van halen, not the band i know, hope they got all this mellow shit out of them and are ready to rock again,

  • @vanhalen515084 Agreed... This is just vaginal moisture, which is odd coming from men.

  • @SteveAlbinisPussy Yeah, you must like penis moisture, that's why you don't like the mellowness, hehehehe.

  • This is just forgettable 90's rubbish.

  • @SmittyHeWasNumber1 Dude, this music... It makes me cry. It touches so many people so deeply. I couldn't imagine a world without Van Halen...

  • @monkeycow4325 Well ,Eddie does know how to make songs.

  • @monkeycow4325 The world has been without vanhalen the day Sammy left again....Todays vanhalen isnt even bad karoke..

  • @rattlinurcage3 Well, they're not forgettable. The music lives on, eh?

  • @rattlinurcage3 Meh... they haven't made decent music since Roth left the band, which I don't quite get. Obviously, he wasn't writing the music. I don't quite get why they pussed out, but hey, I'll listen to Gorguts or something with some balls, dick, and scrotum. Not this vaginal wetness...

  • 60 people who dislike this video are NOT ENOUGH to kick these 4 guys' badass...One of the great bands ever!

  • Dave was awesome with Van Halen. But Sammy is deffinitly a better singer

  • DLR is bald and cant sing. End of story,

  • DAve is bald and cant sing.

  • My God Van Halen wasnt about love songs, they were about partying and rocking, thanks sammy for killing a great band that was known for its guitar work and turning it into this trash!!

  • This is NOT Van Halen!! This is Van Hagar. If it ain't Roth it ain't Van Halen..

  • I agree 110% You can't take way what they had with Dave & Alex, simply amazing!! But with Sammy was also amazing what he brought to the band. I'm a fan of both Van Halen Van Hager.

  • @manofthegroove Had you said that 20 years ago you would have a point but Hagar with VH is now just as epic as the orginal VH I'd say. And that's hard for me to say cuz I use to be a mafor old school VH fan that resisted the Hagar thing. Know

  • One of the sweetest Eddie solos right there. Classy stuff. :)

  • Eddie playing a piano just isnt rite!!

  • Sorry boys, but Sammy the singer is much more ....

  • Comment removed

  • VH with Sammy or David Lee is still VH.......PERIOD!

    People change and shit happens.....PERIOD!

  • DLR was a bout fun, energy, and excitement. Sammy was a love sick puppie. needless to say i like 'em both,....DLR a little more tho

  • DLR was a bout fun, energy, and excitement. Sammy was a love sick puppie

  • Its hard to believe Eddie looked like something out of Resident Evil a couple of years after this, But at least he didnt lose the skill god gave him cuz after all.....who else has such power

  • Compare & contrast :

Diamond Lee Roth = PLUNGED HIS DICK INTO THE HOTTEST CUNTS

Diamond Lee Roth = LAUNCHED FLYING SPIN KICKS WITH EASE

Diamond Lee Roth = SNORTED ENOUGH COCAINE TO KILL CHUCK NORRIS

Diamond Lee Roth = ROARED LIKE THE LION WITH SHADES ON

Sammy Hagar = A BUTT-FUCKED CHIMP WITH POODLE HAIR

  • Great song, but Ed's tone was for shit here... Way over effected and ruined the mood if you ask me...

  • Van Halen with Roth = balls out party band, great guitar playing

Van Halen with Hagar = more polished, better songs

my 2 cents. I've seen both live. Dave's a lot of fun, Sammy can flat sing his ass off.

  • Van Halen with Roth = balls out party band, great guitar playing

Van Halen with Hagar = more polished, better songs

    my 2 cents

  • Lolo

  • Sorry but this version of VH really SUCKED ASS!! NOTHING BEATS classic Van Halen with Roth!!

Read it & WEEP Hagar sheep.

  • @Kickstart25

    no doubt!

this is when EVH went through his "flamer" period.

    Look at that hairdo!!! he,he,he,he,he,he,eh,he

  • @cciemail

Thank God the Reo SpeedHalen days are finally over. Classic Van Halen RULES!!

    ROTH & ROLL!!!

  • 2 well-known facts about Van Halen:

--- Roth turned them into the most kick-ass rock band on Earth

--- Hagar turned them into a pussified version of Journey

  • @Hunkola ye DLR was the king, the early van halen albums are unbeatable in my opinion. This is a good example of a good Hagar-era song though...

  • @Hunkola Yeah, hearing Van Halen w/Dave singin' "JUMP" was so pure ROCK n' ROLL!! It wasn't "pussified" at all. Note the sarcasm..... Both singers did the band justice. Let it go already!

  • SAMMY HAGAR SAVED VAN HALEN ........ PERIOD

FUCK ALL YOU DLR LOVING MORONS ...............PERIOD
