Love it. Intermodel freight. with veriety of cars, trailers, and containers. Also love the speed, and horn blasting through the grain silos. Check out my page, I have similar in models.
I live almost 2 blocks north of a RR xing in SE Iowa...even when I'm laying in bed in my 2nd floor, apt, I CAN STILL feel the vibration when they speed through town, about 1,000 ft. from me.
Not sure what the law is in Illinois. In California, the signals must be completely activated (gate arms completely down and locked) a minimum of 20 seconds before the train reaches the grade crossing.
That is where the newer signals are gauging approach speed and activating accordingly to meet the law requirement.
Love that Red & Silver Warbonnet with S3L horns. Don't see that very much anymore. UP used those horns back in the mid-90s but no more. I really miss S3L horns!
Thank you for using a tripod, for not panning, and for not zooming. I got to enjoy the excitement of big time, high speed railroading without getting dizzy. Thanks!
I have never seen Trains say that much. At busier places on the line (like texas, new mexico, az, ca) you could see as many as 100. The most I have caught on this portion of the line is mid 60 BNSF's plus as many as 5,6 UP's (10+ west of Edelstien IL).
okay. I still do not think the line would reach 180 though. I have stayed along the line and caught 140 somthing a few times. Still more than enough trains!
my dad is a construction boss and they were doing a job in Streator of building a bridge over the BNSF, he was talking with a BNSF guy and he said that the line can see up to 80 depending on the day of the week
Well I have never seen it that high and I have stayed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights in this area. I have seen over 70 through here but that was back in 2006 and traffic is down pretty good since then. I bet 80 has happened though.
Looks like I'll be moving to Iowa within the next few weeks and I'll be less than an hour from the line. I'll be getting many more 24's!
Believe what you want to believe, but the only way you'll know for sure is if you stay for a whole day yourself.
The people in Mazon must still not understand how fast the trains go through their town. I mean they really need to know that this a high priority, high speed, transontinental, double-track mainline. It's no trundle-down-the line branch line. HA! Nice videos, all of them!
I love it when you get a chance to hear the locals talk about the railroad and they say they run some crazy number like 150 trains per day. I have heard it MANY times, no lie! just shows how much they really pay attention.
Yes I do agree that people should know what they're dealing with here. The best of the best. This is the TRANSCON BABY!!(say like dick vitale)
o well i think that is awesome! I am going to be working for BNSF in hopefully 5 years and I just might have to run this route. You may be my dispatcher. Ha!

Looks like Illinois are not as stringent.
Do you know anything about it?
Cockroach2008 3 years ago
Sorry, I don't know too much about that... I do know that these are motion activated and go down according to train speed.

Illinois is a way different ballgame than California.
Most of the trackage in CA goes through either high car-traffic zones or urban areas, if i'm not mistaken.
Apart from Chicago, Most of IL is Rural Farmland and small towns like Mazon here.
Hiei2k7 2 years ago
Agreed! This is two entirely different territories. Different rules apply.

I thought the transcon can see up to 180 trains a day on busy days???? I think i read this several times in related articles in Trains Mag??

it depends on the day how many are ran. During peak times it can be over one hundred.
