@darthdan1000 Except he was a bitch the whole time tat didn`t contribute any sort of horror or terror. He felt like he was just there to die. He didn`t DO anything. Other than fight. Basically an un-named body guard could have filled the exact same role.
i like him because he was just so focused on what he did he was just pure rage and evil out to get the job done, o talking or anything just a bad ass sith
People like Darth Maul because of his air of mystery. Think about it, here you have a guy never referenced to before episode 1 who has very little screen time but is a major player in determining the outcome of the entire movie. Add to that a unique weapon, cool fighting skills, and a very memorable look and you create someone who is at least interesting if not dynamic. It's possible Maul could have been more impactful if he lived but it also would have taken away some of his mystery.
@WRK004 An unnamed body guard could have filled the role the exact same way. The fact that he was unreferenced before, had so few scenes, did so little throughout`, was only Palpatines bitch the whole time, was only written into the movie so that he could die to make room for Anakin, just makes him altogether unconvincing as a bad guy. Especially since the only kill he made was the other completely unnecessary, bland character, for whom i had no emotional investment.
you forget, the entirety of Episode I is for money-making with toys... the entire reason to introduce Jar Jar was for the kiddies (and brain dead adults) so they can get the toys for him
Maul had virtually no lines, but the real reason for people liking him is because he's played by Ray Park, and thus does some REALLY COOL martial arts stuff (which is all Ray can do really)...
I liked him because he is not a villain who just goes like blah blah blah instead he's quiet and full of mystery. That's what makes a good villain.
