@Cheshirecat55 lol...OK, I had to google that one, since I assumed you were not referring to the Wild West Showman...or...were you? The character in Silence of the Lambs? "It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again?" Well, we have something in common--I love thrillers and horror movies too! /Joel Lessing
@GodTangrowth Thanks for watching! When I put this video up it was pretty uncommon...now we have more than 200 men posting in the "Men on the Pole" Facebook page and some of them are actually world class athletes. /Joel Lessing.
To be honest, I had no idea Poledancing was actually a sport when I watched the RP. I just thought you were incredibly drunk. Oh well, even if you were drunk, at least you're having fun.
@waiwaiymw Hi WaiWai...actually, I lost this move over the summer and I have been trying real hard to get it back. The key that everybody tells me is to have the hips as far UP...and OUT as possible. Supposedly it actually makes the move easier--but I struggled with it for a long time and I still find it VERY hard to do!
@EmoDuck13 LOL...no high heels for me...it's just fitness poling from my point of view. I'll leave the sexy pole to the ladies who are far more talented--and sexier--than I am! But thanks for watching!!!
You know, I HAD noticed that my hand was all tensed up and twisted looking and I wasn't sure what the problem was. I have been off the pole a few weeks around the holiday, and I hope I haven't lost the move! But I will experiment with those hand/arm placments and rotations. I never even thought about that aspect of it until I saw your comment! Thank you! /joel
Hahahahahahahaaaaaa!!!!! Your ability to dismiss these comments is brill hun - I hope you have got the aysha nailed now - send me a tutorial :) I just don't get this elbow grip thing. Can get up there and that, but just don't trust my bottom arm to keep me up. It takes a lot of nerve xx
@llucas1977 Thanks, Llucas...well I was off the pole for so long that I have been struggling to get that Aysha move back ! I went to New York to see the National Championships and ate way to much food! A good way to practice the Aysha move is to do the forearm version...your body is closer to the pole and balance is not as important.
As a matter of fact I do work out--two hours EVERY day...with weights, running, bicycling...and pole. Hmmm...fat? lol, not according to the IBW tables for my age...just slightly over ideal weight for a 6 footer. Ha Ha, "monkey man" --now I kind of like that as a nickname. I should have chosen it as a screen name. Thanks for watching and enjoying my video, Kiroswan!
Is that an offer of professional plumbing services? ...because the pipes in this house are a mess..and the electrical needs some upgrading, too! LOL, but seriously, Mayor Error--thanks for watching and enjoying my video!
LOL, sorry...I'm not located in the Ukraine...although I hear it is a nice place to visit and full of friendly and beautiful ladies. ...And there isn't any stripping at all in my version of pole dance...just a lot of gymnastic type move and maybe a little dancing now and then! Thanks very myuch for watching and enjoying my video!!
LOL, the little kid in the Dictée doesn't really say that. I was just making a joke for a lovely young lady (the US National West Champion) who had helped me out with my technical issues. She was raised in France. Dictées are like spelling bees and a fixture of the very old fashioned French way of learning the language. Here in Oak Park (near Chicago),I learned French this way, also. As far as the Nutella...NOBODY here liked it and the bottle is still sitting inthe pantry!
LOL, Karohemd...a lot of people have said they are big fans of the stuff. I think it is very popular in France and Italy. And supposedly , they say the formula or recipe is different in those countries...
I have to give you credit for being so very thorough in your answers and your general good nature to a lot of insults, some more thinly veiled than others.
If it makes you happy and isn't hurting anyone don't see the problem.
Thank You, Dan! Actually, the pole community is small enough that many people know each other on-line (and have for many years). Usually, none of us get that many negative comments. But there was an articile inthe Huffington Post about pole dancing, so the video traffic picked up a little bit and more comments come through. Usually the comments are how to correct certain technical problems with grip and balance. LOL, after a while it's like car mechanics!
If this were some kind of...sport then perhaps it would just be weird but as it is...well..come on mate, what exactly are you thinking? What are you hoping to achieve? Is this some feeble attempt at internet notoriety or do you REALLY believe someone is going to slip some cash down your jocks?
Thanks, Dan. It IS a sport. I bike ride 50 miles a day in the summer and I have NEVER lasted through a 3 minute song doing inverts. I lift weights, treadmill, can do 35 sit-ups on an incline bench, pull down 190 pounds 5 reps on a lat-machine...and I still cannot out-pole most of the 20 year old young ladies who dance on You-Tube. Fortunately, I am gainfully employed as a medical auditor. I respect the ladies who do erotic dance, they are awesome, wonderful people!
There is no stripping allowed in competitive pole dance. Dancers who remove so much as a bobby pin from their hair are immediately disqualified. Yes, of course, the comps are in auditoriums and arenas--Symphony Space is this years' USPDF venue in New York. There are professional judges, scoring sheets, sponsors, and 1st, 2nd , 3rd place finishers. It's a great, wholesome--and very G-rated-- good time. In Europe, there have even been youth division pole comps for a few years.
It's just a sport and a form of exercise. I am a little too old and non-sexy for stripping, I think...and quite gainfully employed as a mid-level government bureaucrat closer to retirement than I care to think about. And the poling community is a great bunch of people I enjoy "hanging out" with on-line. Thanks for watching!
Hi, GebGuy....the Aysha (or the" elbow griiped inverted open V") is a moderately advanced pole gymnastic move. The Nutella Dictee was an inside joke for a friend from France. She has helped me learn to pole and I wanted to give her a little "salute."
Hi, "I'll sub anyone" LOL, that is a GREAT screen name, by the way. The Aysha (named for a pole student a long time ago) is an inverted gymnastic move of moderate difficulty done on the dance pole. The Nutella dictee is just an inside joke for a young lady in California, one of the national champions, who has helped me learn pole moves. She is French and she loves Nutella. It was a little "salute" to her for all of her help!
Hello, Dr. Chalk Withering! Well, I'm a big fan of the internet also. I don't think my videos are even close to being the most extreme thing you can watch out there. I am basically an old fart doing gymnastic moves in gym shorts, LOL! I once saw a video of two young women dressed in bikinis who roll around on the floor in a room filled with HUNDREDS of balloons and pop them one by one. Apparently, this is quite a popular sexual fetish! Thanks for watching. No ballon fetish vids, I promise!!!
Thanks Tara...lol, well, I'll never be as good as you. You are still one of my pole heroes and I go back to your videos over and over when I feel down or discouraged. Then I say "Look at how cool she looks...I GOTTA get that move!!!" I hope that all is well with you and your family.
hahaha i know ive been a bad poler lately! ive even been behind on videos :( i'm going to try to post one today though...and i think not having your pole room for a week might be a blessing, then you can take a break from the aysha and nail it when jake goes back to school :)
YEs, I've been using the Thanksgiving week to do upper body work. Unfortunately, I have been stuffing my face just about every day! Can't wait for this week to be over. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!!
Thank You! Yes, the Aysha is a real demon...just kept eluding me. And I want the split grip version, too! I still need to work on my upper body strength, I think...
You know, I still can't do any version of the elbow/forearm grips but have got the split grip one (even tho it took me a while) much easier. I can't seem to wrap my head round this elbow grip malarky at all. Good luck tho and keep trying - I know I will :)
Hi Glitter! Remember when you were working on this move? Man! What IS it about the AYSHA? It just keeps getting away from me. Next day...NOTHING, LOL! Well, I lost the pole room for a week...Jake is back from college and it's a little distracting with him in the next room. So I am doing nothing but upper body work to toughen up! Hey....I am a JEALOUS pole pal, lol! I want my Glitter back! ...Ha Ha, just kidding....I am LOVING how happy you've been lately! Take care.../joel
Bonne continuation.
Thank You!! Well, I get frustrated, too with certain moves. I kind of gave up on the split grip aysha...I just don't have the power to lift my own weight in the inverted split grip.
Good for you Joel, a couple of those attempts you even managed to hold for a bit! I love how you just keep going, no matter how many times you hit those mats!
Go try some of that Nutella before there's none left, sooooo good. I have some in my cupboard and I think it might be time for a snack. :) I remember dictee as well from my french-immersion days, only we always did it with a list of words, not phrases. lol thanks for reminding me, havn't though about that in so long.
Thank You, Spinbunny! Iwas a terrible French student! I didn't get into it until much later in life. It took me about ten years to get halfway decent at the language. If pole takes me that long, I'll be 58 years old before I can be a good pole dancer, LOL!
Merci, Valérie...c'est bien difficile pour mois de trouver la balance de mon corps. Je n'ai pas de l'entrainement gymnastique...alors il me faut apprendre les mouvements très lentement. Valérie, I think it is wonderful that you encourage your students to make a video to showcase their skills and learning. Tell all of your "deesses" that they are WONDERFUL! I really enjoy the dance performances...and they are lucky that they have such a nice teacher!
Yes, the Nutella thing came up on FB, when Fleur mentioned it in a post. I had never heard of Nutella before, so I bought a jar of it. I haven't tasted it yet...Laurie did and she said it was kind of sweet. I love chocolate...and Hazelnut...but the idea of a spread seems a little odd to me. I DO like the Chocolate chip cookies with the nuts in them, though...do you have Panera deli's in the SW USA? They have double chocolate chips w/ Hazelnut and Macedemia cookies at the cash register!
@Poledancefan * i havent had that stuff in years ha * i remember my gold digger sister used to give us nutella all the time * ugh! * it is good though * well to eat once in awhile ha * no i dont think we do hmm * MMMM cookies! oatmeal raisin is the king of them all! * now i really feel like eating something sweet *
Thanks...I can only imagine the day when I can do those things like you do...an Aysha while spinning around very fast. It was great seeing you up on the pole again in your come-back video. I hope you are doing well...have a great Thanksgiving week coming up and please say hello to your friends and family: I remember some of them from your vids last year. I miss you, and those pretty photos you always put on each video...so I hope you do a new video soon!
Thanks Tiff! Oh..come on, now...your Aysha's are PERFECT, lol! Actually, it was your split grip aysha's that got me started on this whole Aysha thing. And you even did a tutorial on it for me. I put the split grip aside for a while...but I did not forget about it...and Iam going to go back to that tute...about tucking, sliding the legs down...and go for that split grip version again. Then I will have all THREE: regular, inverse, and Split Grip Aysha. LOL, Slowly...but surely!
2:30 was brilliant joel...you have made me want to re address the aysha..ive not done it for ages and really really should. always inspiring joel, keep it up xxx
I think I finally got the AYsha the "official" way now...even if it is a little rocky and unsteady. So I was telling Tiff that now I have to go back to her tutorial on the split grip version and get THAT one. It's the one of the three Aysha's that I haven't even come close to getting at all. ( I can do the reverse...even though my bottom arm is kind of backwards, ha ha!). Thanks for encouraging me and uging me on!!!
Thanks Karol...it would not have been possible without the detailed instructions and vid-shares I got from all of you guys. It was all pieces of a puzzle--Tiff's early tutes, Voelle's "pike" practice version, Michula's vid, Fleur's step by step instructions...your encouragement and tips...and so on from so many people. I appreciate ALL of you...Thank you!
LOL, I haven't tasted it yet...Lauire did and said it was real sweet. I had never even heard of it until Fleur mentioned it in a post. But some people at work who emigrated from Europe said that it is VERY popular in France and Spain...and also say it tastes different over there! Thanks for watching the vid...yes the Aysha is a real "Nemesis" move for me...I really have no sense of balance, LOL, I can hardly walk up the stairs without tripping!
1:30 was it!!! Well done! See how was soon as you push out away, it's much more stable? Every attempt after that kept getting more solid! Great job! I remember "dictee" very well... ;)
Thank You, Fleur. I read that double comment you left OVER and OVER..didn't see Michula's vid until 6AM the next morning and freeze framed it second by second...looking for that "shin" push-off and then searched and watched some old stuff Shelly put up in 2008. Yes my French teacher, Mr Meute, was all about the Dictee. A Franco-American from a Maine (d'origine Quebecoise) lumber family, he was very particular about proper pronunciation--especially distinguishing the nasals and (cont'd)
the (e) froms. He'd shout, "Mr. Lessing! Write "J'essai, je sais, J'essuie, Je suis" ...and go ballistic if "an", "en", "in", "on", and "un" were mispronounced. I have tons of those old practice tapes...useless now I guess unless I could transfer them to MP3. But there are wonderful internet resources out there nowadays for learning languages. Fleur, thanks so much for the detailed instructions on the Aysha! LOL, next project: return to trying the Split Grip version? Maybe!
Thank You Christinady...yes the internet pole community is a wonderful thing. People are very helpful...probably doubly important for me as there are few studios with classes oriented towards men who want to pole in a more fitness type style and not as much into the dance moves (although ALL of the pole styles are awesome!). I am really grateful for all of the help I have gotten from other polers!
I think Fleur and the others definitely had it right...the secret is coming down ALREADY away from the pole. If you are "settled" properly on the lower half bracket and tilted jsut right, the weight goes downinto the pole and you just have to get the balance right. But if not, then you just fall down and that happened to me 5-6 times. I edited those clips out--but basically, I stacked up the huge foam blocks I have behind the curtain so I'd be OK even if I landed on my head, LOL!
LOL, No I was scared to try it...it just seemed kind of a strange combination of flavors. My daughter Johannah and Laurie opened it up right away, of course--after I finished the video--they said it was real sweet. If there's some left, I'll try it tonight. It's funny, because I love double chocolate chip nut cookies...so I guess I should like Nutella!
you should joel. I promise you will like it. just try it even on plain white bread =D i was scared at first as well, but then when i ate it .. omfg... its delish!! its like having a little choco sammich!
Thanks, Samantha...I did get a halfway decent version of the forearm grip version on another video...but my legs were in the wrong position. So now I'll probably go back and try that version again...to see if I can do it better.
also, i think the forearm grip is better for you, the elbow grip forces the body too far out for balance at this point in time when your balance is not ready for it. do the forearm grip, keep the body close, then do the knees bent as you slowly move ur hips away from the pole. bring the chest as close as possible to the pole, balance and counter balance. chest press in, hips go out. makes sense?
Yes, I do not disagree about that...I think I got a pretty decent version of the forearm grip on an earlier video...but my legs were the qwrong way...so Ineed to try that again and make it better. THanks for the feedback about the bottom hand...I didn't notice this..but have a hard time twisting my hand the right way for a good palm grip in some moves. But I will try that next time around. YEs, as far as the elbow grip--I just basically wanted to see if I could do it that way (cont'd)
just because I think the way the body tilts at an angle in the elbow version has a nice look to it! Thanks for the information about the shoulders and alignment...lol, I wish you were there in the room coaching me while I am doing it! Thanks so much for all of the tips and suggestions in the earlier video...without all of the help I couldn't have done any of it!
joel,i see something obvious, ur bottom extended hand is too low, you gotta move it up slightly higher, no wonder you have no upper body strength holding you up, cos the shoulders are 'misplaced' and 'misaligned' cos u're hyperextending your bottom arm. correct that, and also the way you place your fingers for the bottom hand, don't leave some fingers pointing down, grip with all five digits and wrap the entire palm around the pole. thumb does not point down.
Thanks, Sim for the Aysha help! LOL...I had never even HEARD of Nutella until it came up in a Facebook discussion. And now I see from a little internet research that there is an entire Nutella subculture: commercials, vids and legends. For example there is some sort of ongoing dispute about whether Nutella made in Europe is better than the version made here--so people actually get caught at the airport "smuggling" in more than the allowed Nutella quota in their suitcase.

Wow Joel!! I love you persistance....I try a move like 5 times and then move on...I'm too high strung to focus that long! lol
mrstrone 2 years ago

:) I remember dictee as well from my french-immersion days, only we always did it with a list of words, not phrases. lol thanks for reminding me, havn't though about that in so long.
spinbunny 2 years ago
Thank You, Spinbunny! Iwas a terrible French student! I didn't get into it until much later in life. It took me about ten years to get halfway decent at the language. If pole takes me that long, I'll be 58 years old before I can be a good pole dancer, LOL!

Valérie, I think it is wonderful that you encourage your students to make a video to showcase their skills and learning. Tell all of your "deesses" that they are WONDERFUL! I really enjoy the dance performances...and they are lucky that they have such a nice teacher!

mmm nutella havent had that in years haha
ThePoleDude 2 years ago
Yes, the Nutella thing came up on FB, when Fleur mentioned it in a post. I had never heard of Nutella before, so I bought a jar of it. I haven't tasted it yet...Laurie did and she said it was kind of sweet. I love chocolate...and Hazelnut...but the idea of a spread seems a little odd to me. I DO like the Chocolate chip cookies with the nuts in them, though...do you have Panera deli's in the SW USA? They have double chocolate chips w/ Hazelnut and Macedemia cookies at the cash register!

LOL Ducky Butt. Well done Joel. I do believe your gonna get this one down pat before I do.

Come on now, Joel is right, your Aysha is beautifull!

Thanks for encouraging me and uging me on!!!

there ya go joel..!! great job!! keep it up!

I ALWAYS hide the Nutella in MY house!

Poledancefan 2 years ago
1:30 was it!!! Well done! See how was soon as you push out away, it's much more stable? Every attempt after that kept getting more solid! Great job! I remember "dictee" very well... ;)
fleurthefrenchcat 2 years ago

Maybe!
Poledancefan 2 years ago
wow i'm learning so much from this video and all the comments! thanks! you're doing a great job!
christinady 2 years ago
Thank You Christinady...yes the internet pole community is a wonderful thing. People are very helpful...probably doubly important for me as there are few studios with classes oriented towards men who want to pole in a more fitness type style and not as much into the dance moves (although ALL of the pole styles are awesome!). I am really grateful for all of the help I have gotten from other polers!
Poledancefan 2 years ago
looks scary lol.... Im still working on moving this one away from the pole. VERY nice hold @ 2:28.
PunkyJessie 2 years ago
I think Fleur and the others definitely had it right...the secret is coming down ALREADY away from the pole. If you are "settled" properly on the lower half bracket and tilted jsut right, the weight goes downinto the pole and you just have to get the balance right. But if not, then you just fall down and that happened to me 5-6 times. I edited those clips out--but basically, I stacked up the huge foam blocks I have behind the curtain so I'd be OK even if I landed on my head, LOL!
Poledancefan 2 years ago
welll!! did u eat the nutella?!?!??!?!
castleoutsider 2 years ago
LOL, No I was scared to try it...it just seemed kind of a strange combination of flavors. My daughter Johannah and Laurie opened it up right away, of course--after I finished the video--they said it was real sweet. If there's some left, I'll try it tonight. It's funny, because I love double chocolate chip nut cookies...so I guess I should like Nutella!
Poledancefan 2 years ago
you should joel. I promise you will like it. just try it even on plain white bread =D i was scared at first as well, but then when i ate it .. omfg... its delish!! its like having a little choco sammich!
castleoutsider 2 years ago
doing great Joel. I agree with Michelle, do the forearm grip instead of the elbow grip till you have better balance.. But your awesome :)
CrazySamantha0214 2 years ago
Thanks, Samantha...I did get a halfway decent version of the forearm grip version on another video...but my legs were in the wrong position. So now I'll probably go back and try that version again...to see if I can do it better.
Poledancefan 2 years ago
also, i think the forearm grip is better for you, the elbow grip forces the body too far out for balance at this point in time when your balance is not ready for it. do the forearm grip, keep the body close, then do the knees bent as you slowly move ur hips away from the pole. bring the chest as close as possible to the pole, balance and counter balance. chest press in, hips go out. makes sense?
michquahyoga 2 years ago
Yes, I do not disagree about that...I think I got a pretty decent version of the forearm grip on an earlier video...but my legs were the qwrong way...so Ineed to try that again and make it better. THanks for the feedback about the bottom hand...I didn't notice this..but have a hard time twisting my hand the right way for a good palm grip in some moves. But I will try that next time around. YEs, as far as the elbow grip--I just basically wanted to see if I could do it that way (cont'd)
Poledancefan 2 years ago
just because I think the way the body tilts at an angle in the elbow version has a nice look to it! Thanks for the information about the shoulders and alignment...lol, I wish you were there in the room coaching me while I am doing it! Thanks so much for all of the tips and suggestions in the earlier video...without all of the help I couldn't have done any of it!
Poledancefan 2 years ago
joel,i see something obvious, ur bottom extended hand is too low, you gotta move it up slightly higher, no wonder you have no upper body strength holding you up, cos the shoulders are 'misplaced' and 'misaligned' cos u're hyperextending your bottom arm. correct that, and also the way you place your fingers for the bottom hand, don't leave some fingers pointing down, grip with all five digits and wrap the entire palm around the pole. thumb does not point down.

OOOOUUUUUUUUIIIII, c'est tout ce que j'ai a dire sur le sujet de ton Aysha!!! "Hide the nutella" - a youtube idiom... lol
simnonin 2 years ago
Thanks, Sim for the Aysha help! LOL...I had never even HEARD of Nutella until it came up in a Facebook discussion. And now I see from a little internet research that there is an entire Nutella subculture: commercials, vids and legends. For example there is some sort of ongoing dispute about whether Nutella made in Europe is better than the version made here--so people actually get caught at the airport "smuggling" in more than the allowed Nutella quota in their suitcase.
