I personally believe that Tarja and Anette has their own flair. They both sound good singing this song, though I prefer Anette's live performance though.
I actually like a lot Anette's version of this song. Many other NW songs seem to lose most of their mystical/dramatic/spooky quality without tarja's classical voice, but Sacrament of Wilderness isn't one of them.

Anette performs the songs well. And if you've heard the new album, then you'll know that it kicks ass. I couldn't stop listening to it.
Anyway, vocals are just the icing on the cake. The greatness in Nightwish isn't just what the voice of the singer sounds like, it's the musical composition, and how it is integrated into one whole.
Tarja's solo album is boring yea. Not all songs but many. I think the songs are very repetive (verse-refrain-verse-refrain-refrain-end!). And there are way too many ballads! I do like DPP's melodies and lyrics more than My Winter Storm but I prefer Tarja's voice to Anette's. Especially for Nightwish. If you listen to Alyson Avenue, Anette's former band (pop rock) you will see that it suits her voice more than Nightwish. Nightwish needs a mystical, dark, "scary" voice.

YulieAna, please let me express my opinion. I'm no die-hard Tarjaholic but I think Anette's voice doesn't give me the magical feeling Tarja's voice gave me. Opera is mainstream too but opera mixed with metal is something unique. But the main problem I have with Anette's voice is not that she doesn't sing opera, it's that her voice is too plain. She could have been one of thousand others. Sabine Edelsbacher from Edenbridge doesn't sing opera but she is unique. And Enya too! Enya is mainstream.
Opera is not in the pop music mainstream and there was hardly any opera in Nightwish. Tarja is one of the many classical voices out there and many does not mean unique. You make Tarja sound somebody that she is not. She did not bring anything new or extraordinary into the popular music genre.

Opera mixed with metal is not as unique as you may think, it just means you have not been listening to a lot different music. I've heard quite a lot of different people's music over the years that mix in orchestra and classical elements to the rock genre. I agree that Tarja's voice is very mystic in some of her songs, though I do not like all of her songs with NW. I don't like her Solo either. Toumas's genius with writing great songs is what made Tarja great. Tarja solo is just boring now.

This is unbearable with Anette! She has a decent voice, I bought a couple songs off of Dark Passion Play on iTunes, but the old operatic songs are horrible in her voice! They were made for Tarja, and Tarja only.

Como sea, Anette creo que es mejor opción como vocalista para presentarse en vivo. Tarja sin duda es excelente cantante también. Ojalá vengan a Chile =( (los fui a ver la última vez que vinieron cuando aun estaba Tarja y sonaron increíbles...)

I personally believe that Tarja and Anette has their own flair. They both sound good singing this song, though I prefer Anette's live performance though.

That because Annette's vocals fits this bands music style. Tarja is an opera singer and her vocal are made for opera singing not Hard rock.

I actually like a lot Anette's version of this song. Many other NW songs seem to lose most of their mystical/dramatic/spooky quality without tarja's classical voice, but Sacrament of Wilderness isn't one of them.

I just wish people would simply stop bashing either of them. I like Tarja and the music Nightwish made while she was in the band. But I also like Anette and the music they have made with her as well. Both are very good.

Anette performs the songs well. And if you've heard the new album, then you'll know that it kicks ass. I couldn't stop listening to it.
Anyway, vocals are just the icing on the cake. The greatness in Nightwish isn't just what the voice of the singer sounds like, it's the musical composition, and how it is integrated into one whole.

Tarja's solo album is boring yea. Not all songs but many. I think the songs are very repetive (verse-refrain-verse-refrain-refrain-end!). And there are way too many ballads! I do like DPP's melodies and lyrics more than My Winter Storm but I prefer Tarja's voice to Anette's. Especially for Nightwish. If you listen to Alyson Avenue, Anette's former band (pop rock) you will see that it suits her voice more than Nightwish. Nightwish needs a mystical, dark, "scary" voice.

YulieAna, please read what I was writing. Tarja is not an opera singer. She is classically trained. But that's not the point. The reason why I don't like Anette's voice that much is not because it lacks operaticness. It's because I think it lacks a dark, haunting and magical feeling. Sharon Den Adel does not sing opera but her voice suits the genre much more than Anette. Why don't you accept MY opinion? This is not hatred towards Anette as a person. I am only stating my opinion.

She is a classical soprano, not an opera singer. Opera is a part of classical music genre, not the other way around. Get YOUR facts straight.
I don't like Sharon either, her voice is too high pitched and wimpy. Floor Jensen and Simone Simmons are two of the best female singers in metal, imo.

In the world of opera Tarja is mediocre, the fact that she performed operas does not make her a professional.
I said "in my opinion", i like Simone Simmons, but i think Floor Jensen is far better.
Tarja, on the other hand, is poor live. She puts too much effort into the classical technique while singing none classical music, and in the process loses the quality of sound and hits flat notes. Her lower end is weak too.

That makes no sense at all. Nightwish has already been mainstream since Wishmaster. You can't "sing" mainstream, it's not a vocal range or a music genre.

YulieAna, please let me express my opinion. I'm no die-hard Tarjaholic but I think Anette's voice doesn't give me the magical feeling Tarja's voice gave me. Opera is mainstream too but opera mixed with metal is something unique. But the main problem I have with Anette's voice is not that she doesn't sing opera, it's that her voice is too plain. She could have been one of thousand others. Sabine Edelsbacher from Edenbridge doesn't sing opera but she is unique. And Enya too! Enya is mainstream.

Opera is not in the pop music mainstream and there was hardly any opera in Nightwish. Tarja is one of the many classical voices out there and many does not mean unique. You make Tarja sound somebody that she is not. She did not bring anything new or extraordinary into the popular music genre.

Opera mixed with metal is not as unique as you may think, it just means you have not been listening to a lot different music. I've heard quite a lot of different people's music over the years that mix in orchestra and classical elements to the rock genre. I agree that Tarja's voice is very mystic in some of her songs, though I do not like all of her songs with NW. I don't like her Solo either. Toumas's genius with writing great songs is what made Tarja great. Tarja solo is just boring now.

just so you all know, DPP's songs weren't tailor-made for annette, matter all of the songs were totally recorded except for the vocals before annette even joined. so to say the old songs weren't made for annette, guess what? the new songs weren't custom made for her either! I say SoW is a GREAT song for annette, especially the chorus

All u folks screaming for Tarja, i would like to see you on a nightwish-show with Anette where they only play new songs (rofl). You folks sound somehow like the kids screaming when Take That split up. Annette is the new singer, get it or stay at home and listen to the old songs.
Tuomas is one of the most talented musicians i ever heard, he wanted Anette for both old and new songs, accept it.
By the way i think Anette does a great job on the old songs, not as unique as Tarja, but good enough.

This is unbearable with Anette! She has a decent voice, I bought a couple songs off of Dark Passion Play on iTunes, but the old operatic songs are horrible in her voice! They were made for Tarja, and Tarja only.

C'mon Tarja doesn't sing opera in Ghost Love Score or Higher than Hope, if you think she does, then you have no idea what opera is. Actually IMO she never really sang opera in NW in any song anyway...
