2nd, tapers don't skip sizes, so you're probably very confused. it'd have to be a 12G-10G-8G, so figure you're shit out.

And by doing it right I mean not skipping sizes, starting at 18g, waiting two months before stretching bigger, and using the taping method once one gets to bigger sizes like 6 and up. If you're using tapers, there's going to be the irritating stretching sensation, but it should never straight up HURT. If it does, you're doing it wrong.

Even with someone who has an extremely low pain tolerance, there are correct methods of stretching that cause no pain whatsoever. And again, if you're using tapers you will feel the irritating stretching feeling and it might be sore, but it should never hurt.
