Personally, i think this is really delightful and well-made, and even though Twoflower's not what i saw in my head, i think he's really fitting. Not fond of Rincewind, but the actor bothers me less than the fact that he's not the bitter, jaded character I love, and does the most out-of-character thing Rincewind could possibly do: attempt suicide.
@BreaksForFruitcups gosh, i was never so much as 'in love' with the character as much as I felt sorry for him throughout the books he's in. All I want to do is to hug him, just one hug.
@Partinquonk Right, he doesn't. In the book he fits that stereotype covered with cameras and weird gadgets nobody's heard of, later camcorders, totally. He even comes from the Agatean Empire that is a sort of 'generic Orient' for the novels.
Twoflower's a stereotype Japanese tourist. That's the main thing I'd quibble. So he takes money and technology (magic) for granted that's beyond the dreams of Ankh-Morpok for granted. Maybe AM could be a bit more Middle Ages than Dickensian but the books changed after these first two from a satire on the fantasy that all the rage then, to using the fantasy setting to satirise other things.
well of course it aint what i imagined it to be but its pretty good so far. like the part where the book shows twoflower the different meaning of holding up two fingers hehe
To all the haters, wether they be haters of the animated versions of the books and/or haters of the real life versions of the books:
IT WILL NEVER BE WHAT YOU CREATED IN YOUR OWN HEAD WHEN YOU READ THE BOOK. That is the wonder of the written word, you get to make your own shit up that no one else can replicate. Now please kindly shut the fuck up. Thankyou.
All of you who complain about this should try making thier own or shut up. I think the makers of this did a good job at capturing the feel of discworld considering the budget avaliable to them, Terry pratchet obviously liked what they were doing as he makes apperences in it.
Do yourselves your own movie then... No movie can capture whatever is in your minds because you read a book and the covers of the book where only for illustration purposes...
They've completely missed the soul of the first book and turned it into a comedy with musical beats. Where are the barbarians? The trolls? The dwarves? The sense of menace in the Drum? Why is Twoflower white? Why is the Luggage OTT big? There is zero dramatic suspense in this clip.
If it is based on the josh kirby drawings rincewind is old on the cover but also two flower actually has 4 eyes on the cover so it was probably easier to make him american =]
@soulchild6969 rincewind being old makes sense, pratchett and the illustrations had him with a very long white beard. A white american... hmm... he's also missing two of his eyes, the book didn't imply spectacles. I assumed he was meant to be a little asian bloke anyway.
@PringlesJingles well the reason why Twoflower was most likely made White was to make him a bit less offensive to the over reactive types that seem to be all the rage in this day in age.
@PringlesJingles you cant put a book with that kind of genius in it, into pictures, or movies. and as i said in another comment: it is a low budget movie and the books are way better, but i think the actors here are quite good and i dont think that twoflower isnt captured right (:
and yes i miss many things from the book, but..who cares? this movie is way better than other movies made outa books ;D (thinkin about eragon, harry potter, .... ;D)

The guy who does Twoflower reminds me a bit of a guy from Monty python. (e.g. the accountant who wanted to be a lion tamer, anyone?

So far the only thing that bothers me is how old we find Rincewind—and there seems to be some stuff they've just plain up to justify it.
It's not such a terrible move, though. After all, it prevents potential teenage fangirls from being in love with the main character.

@ramtopsman Plus, for those of us in certain parts of Europe, the idea of the silly American tourist is very funny.
(The reason I say this, is after hearing an American proclaim very loudly on a street in England "Why can't they speak real English here!")

Arent the books supposed to be comedy ?
I myslef (from wot I read) naturally assumed Twoflower was white.
Luggage seems to be about the right size to me (he could swallow a man)
Thats my two cents worth anyways... Nit picking aside, Im just sitting back and enjoying the film for what it is. A pleasant one at that.
