Mithridates was a GREEK king in 100+ BC :S "turkish"?? they didn't even think about invading asian minor at that time...!!

1. Mithridates was a hellenized persian from satrapy of pontus.

2. I don't think that explanation would have ringed a bell in general public. What Stephen fry means is probably a ruler who resided in modern day Turkey.

This shows how good Horrible Histories is, it's extremely rare for a kids' TV show to be on at 6 in the evening on BBC One. The HH team should be proud of themselves, they've created one of the best shows I've ever seen.
